Phil confronting techno and being like “they’re pirates. Why does a king care so much about two wayward pirates” and techno is like “doesn’t concern you. Guards kill that guy” while internally screaming because if anything happens to tommy and wilbur he’s going to LOSE IT

Phil asking tommy and wilbur why they’re trying to protect a king who literally uses them as a form of entertainment— techno sends them out on death missions and side quests and a million other things, and surely, by this point, they could’ve just actually left? They keep returning to techno, despite having gained enough freedom to just sail off into the sea. They keep indulging his stupid ass requests, they keep going on the dumb death missions, and why? To prove themselves? To gain a king’s favor?

And then on the other end there’s Techno making so much effort for two criminals that honestly shouldve been sentenced to death by this point. Any other rational king would’ve already executed them with a swiftness. And yet he hasnt. Tommy and Wilbur are literal criminals, who have stolen and killed and destroyed sooo many other ships for the fun of it, and yet Techno only cares for if they come back. He only cares about their return.

And now he’s caring so much, so much so that he’s even made the effort of leaving the comfort of his throne to follow after the pirates. He’s going into active danger just for the chance to get them back.

What sort of ruler does that?

Also tommy and wilbur basically becoming like the king’s pirates and at some point some advisor quietly suggests that maybe its not the best idea to allow two wanted criminals to have so much freedom and techno gives such a withering look that the topic is immediately dropped

Also also wil and tommy discussing between themselves on if they should genuinely make an escape attempt (less of an escape more of just a runaway plan by now with how lenient techno’s gotten) and they keep being like “but free food :( and free beds :( and money :( he pays way more money than we’ve ever stolen” lying to themselves that its not also just because they enjoy seeing the way techno becomes so exasperatedly fond at seeing them return from another stupid death mission

YOU. Tommy and Wil having connections and knowing infamous killers a bit better than techno’s advisors who have all just heard this stuff from rumors and such. They dont hesitate to pull their gun and shoot through an assassins head because of the way they’ve grown up and handled themselves. They kill with such a unique quickness and lack of mercy that comes with needing to survive with so many other pirates on the sea. Tommy registers someone as a physical threat to techno and is instantly pulling them into a fist fight faster than techno can even begin to call for guards. Wilbur realizes someone is trying to follow on Techno’s heels and is instantly shooting out towards them before techno can even realize he was being followed.

Techno also is a king first and foremost. He holds himself with a lot of strength but he doesn’t have that instinct of danger. He was born in a castle. He grew up in the castle. Wilbur and Tommy are men of the sea
