I know many people in our communities have alcohol/drug addictions or are around people who do, so I want to teach you all some first aid tips!
if someone is unconscious, for example if they've passed out drunk, first make sure the scene is safe, then check for breathing and a pulse!
make sure to check if the person's airway is blocked. placing your fingers under their chin and tilting the head back can help clear their airway.
to check for a person's pulse, place two fingers on their neck beside their windpipe and press firmly for 5-10 seconds.
if the person has no pulse, call emergency services, find an AED (or tell someone to find one if that's possible) and begin CPR if you know how. follow the instructions on the AED to defibrillate the person.
if the person is breathing and has a pulse, place them in the recovery position!
make sure they are on their side with the higher arm folded under their head, the lower arm bent forward, and the higher leg bent, like this:
their mouth should be open and facing downward. that way, if they vomit, the vomit can drain out of their mouth and they won't choke on it.
you can place soft but heavy objects, like pillows weighted down with something, around the person to keep them from accidentally turning over.
went to a new optometrist today wearing my squid facts ‘save our freaks’ shirt from @sarahmackattack that has a strawberry squid on it. and i wasn’t even thinking about it but the optometrist walked in and he was like ‘oh what does your shirt say’ so i showed him and he was like ‘oh that’s neat!’ and then i thought he might like to know about strawberry squid eyes since they have weird eyes and he is an optometrist and all. so i was like ‘yeah it’s actually a real kind of squid called a strawberry squid, their eyes are really cool because they have one big yellow-green one and one small blue one’ and he kind of gasped and went ‘oh my god that’s so interesting i wonder why they have that. do you know what their retina composition is like?’ and i watched as he minimized my chart on the computer and started looking up images of strawberry squid and then he googled ‘strawberry squid retina composition’ and he was like ‘sorry we’ll get to your eye exam in a moment i just really want to find out’ LMAO 10/10 optometrist experience will be returning

Ah yes, thank you white middle-class trans man who was able to afford to medically transition and was lucky enough to pass enough to go stealth for educating us whiney transandrobros on how we all experience male privilege and benefit from the patriarchy. Actually I'm not done talking about Elliot Page. You know that tweet that's going around that goes like "I always thought he was a terrible actor and hoped he would get better after transitioning but he is still bad" and people are touting it like it's peak ally behavior and I really don't get how they can't see how it's blatently an excuse to shit on him but woke? He's not a bad actor. He's never been. Even if you thought so before, how would you judge the difference? He's been in two badly reviewed seasons of the umbrella academy and five minutes of the odyssey, because transitioning just so happens to be bad for your career? Moot point bc he is not and people are just foaming at the mouth to be cruel to him without being accused of transphobia and it's clear as day.
Harrowing: someone in your Fandom just made an innocuous and harmless post that nonetheless betrays a deep misunderstanding of the character and the character's narrative purpose and you just have to sit there and let them be wrong lest you be an asshole

but there actually are some social cues that can be taught. like the obvious one is when someone says “how are you” they usually mean “friendly noise” and are not actually asking how you are, although some people ARE genuinely asking how you are and it’s usually up to the context of your relationship to determine the difference
also that apparently “when you get a chance” usually means “when you take a break from the thing you’re immediately doing” and not “on a list among various other things you are doing today or tomorrow”
and when someone says “i’ll let you get going” they mean “please leave”
