I don’t know what we did to deserve Mr. Rogers but I’m so glad we had him.

my mom taught me the therapeutic power of cleaning. open all the windows. throw out the old. wipe down the entire house. burn some incense. roast some coffee. then rest. that way the tears from last night don’t feel as heavy.
She just wanted you to clean the house
“Document the moments you feel most in love with yourself - what you’re wearing, who you’re around, what you’re doing. Recreate and repeat.”
— Warsan Shire
you: i don’t really have sensory issues
also you:
hates your least favorite food because of the texture
wears the same 5 year old bra every day
wearing lots of jewelry irritates you
hates touching wet/soggy things
wore your socks inside out as a kid/always wear the same kind of socks
why won't that ticking noise stop!!
despises shirts with rough tags
Why are you calling me out like this what did I ever do to you
No, no, call me out. I didn't know I was autistic until I was 25 years old. It's posts like these that help me notice what is and isn't a thing with me.
Fun fact, during my last therapy session my therapist suddenly dropped the words "for autistic people like you" on me and when I stared at her like a fool she went "oh I thought you knew!" so that's where I'm at
I'm turning 27 in 5 weeks
recovery is not ‘soon i will be untouched, perfect, and in a permanent state of bliss. i will be healed and all will be well, forever.’
recovery is ‘i will continue to survive despite what happens, i will find ways to cope instead of continually tearing myself down. i will recover and will see myself in a light that i never thought was possible.’
Reminded of this excerpt from Getting Through the Day: Strategies for Adults Hurt as Children by Nancy J. Napier: “It also helps to remember that healing occurs in a spiral. We swing around again and again to the same old issues, but at different turns of the spiral. Each time we confront a similar feeling or reaction we have yet another opportunity to learn and to heal. Each time, we bring with us whatever new understanding we have gained since the last time we cycled through this particular difficulty.”
‘When the war ended, the men came back to their jobs, and most women went back to their homes. But in their hearts, there was no going back to the old days or the old ways. Their sense of power and potential – the Wonder Woman within – had emerged and could no longer be repressed. She is and always has been a source of hope and inspiration for women everywhere.’
Lynda Carter in Wonder Woman: The Complete History - The Life and Times of the Amazon Princess
capitalism is like. resting is a waste of time. eating is a waste of time. sleeping is a waste of time. playing is a waste of time. living is a waste of time. you must prove your worth to live here and everything else is a waste. and we’re taught not to question it.
i will eat my meals and take my naps and sit on benches and i will stop to do nothing and i will cherish those moments.
