as someone with adhd and autism and an anger reaction, the responses to this post where people feel like that reaction is even mildly okay is the reason why it’s difficult to talk about this

sorry but trauma, adhd, autism, and every other thing you can think of doesn’t make this response “valid” it means we have to work harder to do something else because lashing out at people who don’t deserve it is never appropriate

Your sentiment is more harmful imo, pushing the popular "you're not mentally ill/neurodivergent, you're just an asshole" idea has been shitty for anyone who reacts to pain with anything other than a Matilda outlook.

It's almost bizarre the way this is framed - it's not "okay" to react in anger, the implication being it's "okay" to react to overstimulation with going nonverbal? Breaking down into tears? Feeling suicidal? None of these are "okay" - they just are! They are simply natural, human reactions to pain!

That's not too say you're justified or forgiven for hurting others while you're in pain but it's fucking unbelievable that talking about the negative aspects of neurodivergency always gets this reasponse, that is you're not being triggered in the correct way (shamefaced, vulnerable, loveable), then you need to keep it to yourself, lest you make the nds who can control themselves look bad.

OP did not say "it's good that i hurt people when i am over stimulated"

OP said we need to talk about NDs who react to triggers and sensory overload in anger. And we do! We need to address this and stop acting like it's a moral failure indicative of who you truly are, as if addressing that some people will react to triggers poorly will encourage them to keep it up.

It is GOOD to discuss this. It's important. That it's an uncomfortable topic does not mean we should silence it.
