Small aside- I found this skull in the woods almost entirely stripped of all carrion, took it home and researched how to clean it.  This raccoon clearly died of natural causes when I found it.  I left the rest of the skeleton in the woods.  I enjoy having an actual skull to draw from reference rather than something plastic.  This isn’t a habit of mine, but that day I was struck by how unusual it is to see an animal skeleton intact yet almost completely stripped of carrion nowhere near the side of the road.
