Case study of an extinct, endangered OR Recovered species

The Raphus cucullatus better know by (Dodo bird). Is an extinct flightless bird that was endemic to the island Mauritius on the east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. Because this creature became extinct 1681 not a lot of information was collected of it. Many stories about this mysterious bird sais that this bird habitat was along the shore of Mauritius, its main habitat where dry lowlands forests. Its mating life is not very much known, these birds would mate deep within forests lay eggs and protect and raise them. The dodo bird according to the sailors that landed on Mauritius Island say that the animal was “clumsy”. The dodo bird is also described as a lazy animal and dumb. When it tried to run a way from a predator it would (wobble) because of its big stomach, its stomach would drag along the ground allowing it to be a slow animal. It has a very similar to a chicken:

-       Flightless bird

-       Soft grey feathers

-       Small wings

-       Short legs

Except for its defensive mechanism, the dodo bird that a very “fearsome bite” whenever it was being threatened or a treat to its eggs.

The dodo bird mainly ate fish found in water pools, but what is surprising about this animal is that it also ate stones and iron it apparently helped the bird to digest better.

The main ecological of this disappearance of this species was food. Sailors mainly hunted the bird for food, which made the animal become extinct. It was usually eaten because of its size and was very easy to catch because it had no fear over humans, it also satisfied a lot of sailors. Also sailors have tried to get an alive dodo to take to Europe to show people how this mysterious bird would eat stones.

Another debated reason of why this bird went extinct is that sailors introduced foreign animals to the island of Mauritius, such as cats, dogs, swine and monkeys. These animals quickly invaded the forests crushing the eggs of the dodo’s and frightening the bird. The interference of other animals led to permanent extinction in 1681.

 The Panthera Tigris better know, as Tiger is an animal that is found in many habitats such as lowland evergreen forests, dry forests, woodlands and sometimes swamps. Tigers are capable of living in different climate areas. They can live in hot climate areas as well as snow lands. All a tigers need survive is having a water source and prey around them.

Tiger have an orange coat with vertical black stripes. There are different species of tigers the largest is known to be the Siberian tiger, known as “Amur Tigers” male Siberian tigers can grow up to 3.7 meters and weigh over 423 kg, females are up to 2.4 meters in measurement and weigh 168 kg. Unlike the Siberian tigers the Indonesian tigers is smaller in body size, they grow up to 2.85 m and weight 195 kg, they have the longest of all tigers species measuring 319 to 365 mm. Sumatran tigers are the smallest of the tiger species, Male Sumatran tigers measuring at 2.34 meters and weighing 136 kg, females measuring at 1.98 meters and weighing 91 kg. Tiger are know for being a highly dangerous animal and is know for being one of the most aggressive cats. They are very powerful that it is known to have pulled a gaur bull weighing 700 kg. Bengal tigers have the longest canines of any living large cat from 7.5 to 10 cm in length. A tiger’s head skull is very forceful and broad with weird arches. The tiger’s bones are very solid that it allows it to have such a deadly bite. Tigers do not associate with other tigers, there are no such things as a pack of tiger in the tiger life, and they prefer living on their own expect when it comes to mating. Males may compete till death or forfeit for the female when mating season. Females tigers come into their mating season every 3 to 9 weeks and are approachable for 3 to 6 days. They are pregnant for about 103 days, deliver between 96 to 111days about 1 to 7 cubs. The mother tiger will raise the cubs, because when born they are helpless, they are blind for 14 days and death for 11 days. When the young ones are about 5 to 6 months they begin to watch their mother hunt. The cubs stay wither their mother for about 3 years. Young females tigers do not reach sexual maturity till the age of 3 to 4 years old and males between the ages 4 to 5 years. The average life span of a tiger is about 8 to 10 years.

 Tigers have no natural predator expect for humans, which is the major reason of why it is endangered specie. Illegal human trading is what is causing the disappearance of the Tiger. Trading involved skins, bones, meat and tonics set at high values. Another reason of the disappearance of the specie in Asia, is because the region is overly populated and rapidly developing, people are moving in to the tiger territory and scaring them away making them loose their habitats. Tigers require a large area to live and hunt for their preys. The areas being taken away are being used for human needs like agriculture.

Tigers help keep balance of the herbivore preys. Tigers usually avoid humans, very rarely if a tiger if feeling threatened by a human the tiger can become a “man eater”. Also because people in Asia are entering tigers territory that is what is happening, tiger have been hunting people for food, the ecological side effect is that humans maybe injured badly.

I found your story inspiring in some way. I liked the way you where trying to prove your point about how the world has changed these past years by using a "princess trying to find her prince"a easier way to say this is that are Generation is messed up and can not be fixed, because people are now used to the way they are living and most of the time they do not care, people from now on the people in this world will never come to one and agree on something selfishness and conflict has taken over .

Is it Possible to Live in a Cold-less World?

According to my research this question has a very complicated answer. From my perspective I think that it is not possible to live in a cold less world. Why is that?

The reason why I think it is impossible is because the world is unstable in so many ways right now. We are living in a world full of conflict; no matter what people want or say there will always find a way to disagree.

Has there ever been a year in recent history (last 100 years) when there has not been 2 or more countries at war with each other? The world has six billion people, 1.2 billion live in extreme poverty, or on an income of roughly US $1 a day or less. Just under 3 billion people live on $2 a day or less. This is something that I believe will never change. Some countries are just too selfish to help others. They keep the goods and wealth for themselves instead of sharing it and making all countries balanced or at the same level. But no there always has to be a country better than the other. According to Ashdown in a world where control in ways it has never before. I believe what he means by that is all countries are challenging them selves. Challenging as in trying to be better than the other country: economy, more successful, better wealth… 

Because countries will never agree on a global issue my answer would be that, it is impossible to live in a Cold less world.

End of 2013 start of 2014

2013 was not really a year I enjoyed. I had a lot of personal issues that kept me worried all the time thinking about family issues just like every other teenage life. Not all teenage kids get along with their parents properly and I am one off them. Because of the pressure I was getting, I started slacking a lot in school; most of my schoolwork was being rushed.

But what surprised me is that because back then I was always worried I did not care much. Now I do and I regret from the way I let my emotions affect my schoolwork.

2013 was a year where I did stand-alone, keeping my problems to my self, doubting my self thinking I was nowhere near success.

The ending of the year this person unexpected gets in my life, this person manages to take out my worries and stress whenever I was with. Being with her kept me smiling at all times. They made my life a better place and happier place.

The good news is now I have put all my worries behind, being inspired and witnessing what I saw during my break made me want to work harder and get what to achieve.

My quote for this year would be "work hard play hard".

This year I want to change things. I want things to be simple even though that’s clearly going to be simple and live a easier life.

  What I learned from my research:

  I learned from my research that drug abuse is one of the biggest issues mankind is dealing with right now and previous years. Drugs are used by all kind of people and a drug for some people it is like a toy. Some people do it because they want to fit in, relax, to relieve boredom, and those people that do drug once a while. For some people that I think have problems use it as a solution to relax and it fixes all there problems, I also realized it is not just random people that do it many popular do it. They don’t even have problems in life and they do it for fun, like I said people treat it like a toy.

 Even today, some countries are legalizing marijuana witch I think is a very bad idea. Because there will be more troubles, more people getting sick and dying. Maybe it can turn out to be a positive affect to the country.

  My understanding for the issue has changed because people want drugs in their lives and the government will not allow such a thing it is like revolution for legalizing marijuana.

  My predictions are happening for e.g. governments are legalizing marijuana, people do it in their daily lives, there are more drug trafficking, but they stay under control, the shocking part is that people really want drugs to be in their lives and there is a massive amount of people that do marijuana.

    How to detect bias:

  Sometimes for some people when they are reading research in the web it is easy for them to detect the bias in it, I can sometimes now figure it out, like when it comes to word choice I will be able to see it because of the way the author used the words to describe what he or she is trying to explain, also people can also be influenced by the tone that a newscaster uses when saying certain words. When it comes to Omission I can detect when an editor can express bias by choosing whether or not to use a specific news story. When it comes to story framing it can be detected when the author sais half of the story and is basically hiding the other part of the story so people will not judge him or the subject he or she is defending, also it could be when an author sais only half of the story. E.g. when an author is talking about legalizing marijuana while he is against it he or she would on say all the negative effects about it and will not say the positives effects about it.

  I will look at media differently because if I am reading anything on the Internet I will be able to detect the bias information in it and if it is so biased and the information is all wrong I would look for another source of information.

  The bias in the source if it is discovered by a reader then he will consider the author to be unreliable and probably not reading any of their information.

  Finally for the past 3 weeks I now know ho to detect the bias in the source, and to know if the author if is reliable or not.

Authors use bias information to fill in their missing holes or to complete a sentence or even to convince the reader and to make him believe a rumor and then spreading the word.

Tracking an Issue "Legalizing Marijuana"

  Evaluate:

The article that is more convincing is the one that has title “one: No federal challenge to pot legalization in two states”.

This is more convincing since they are specific about why marijuana should not be legalized. They give all sort of evidence as over trafficking the drug to the state, kids might get their hands on it, or people over using the drug.

e.g. Marijuana will remain illegal under the federal Controlled Substances Act. Other than that in the other article with title “two: Colorado governor to potheads ‘Don’t breakout the Cheetos’. They don’t exactly give out a proper explanation saying why marijuana should not be legalized they just say that the governor will illegalize the legalization of the drug if people take it to far. The author gives you a clear general understanding of the article purpose but does not give specific detail. So I would just say article one is more convincing and more specific.

  Explain:

 The first article is what a teenager would read I say this because; there are words that you don’t see in other normal articles.

What I am saying is that in other articles you will find scientific words… in this article you don’t even see one. They talk about pot heads, Cheetos, theses are all common words to a youngster, I for example would rather read the second article “Colorado governor to potheads ‘Don’t breakout the Cheetos’”.

Because a s I said before it is more common and it keeps the mood going, the words are simple to understand and you know if there are words like instead of marijuana weed makes it more intense…

People these days don’t want to hear the hole story, they just want to know what caused it they don’t want you to give them a detailed answer like how article one does “No federal challenge to pot legalization in two states”, it just makes it boring.

  Identify and explain: The most type of bias I found was sources, limiting debate and story framing. Sources because, the author is basically telling you what he found out. e.g. Marijuana will remain illegal under the federal Controlled Substances Act. But a department memo to federal prosecutors tightened federal marijuana prosecution standards. He is like telling us a report; he probably does not have detailed information to prove his point.

Limiting debate because, if you look at the article “Colorado governor to potheads ‘Don’t breakout the Cheetos’;, limiting debate is the only bias information the reader could find, because all the author is saying is debates between the government and the civilians of the state. All you will fins is that the people want that… and that the governor wants that….

Story framing because, you will find a lot of things bad and against marijuana in both articles they don’t really talk about how marijuana can be a cure or medicine for some people. e.g. like curing Glaucoma.

  Evidence: It would be more politic because the government is very concerned about legalizing marijuana and that whatever the consequences could possibly be like kids getting their hands on drugs, or the trafficking… that’s why it would be political .

Drug Abuse

                                Why do people do drugs?

The 21st century is having several kinds of troubles specially drugs. Today drugs is one of the world greatest problems.

We humans do drugs because we think it makes us feel real, feel as they could fly… they just do it because it makes them feel alive, and better than not having drugs in their system. For some people doing drugs is a solution. Some people do it because the want to fit in, relax, to relieve boredom, and those people that do drugs once a while. 

The interesting part of it is that every once a while you hear that someone is dead because of overdose of Marijuana, or died because his body could not consume anymore alcohol, or took ecstasy, you will hear all kinds deaths because of drugs.

I am interested in this because I have met and seen people doing drugs and ended up either in jail or the hospital.

Drugs is consumed and done by all kinds of people even very popular celebrities. Not log ago the celeb Cory Monteith was found in his hotel room dead because of the consumption of drugs. Even a person that is living the time of his life can do drugs. In the next few months bbc news, cnn or any other news company will announce that person was found in an ally or any other place… dead because of cocaine or any other drug… drugs for people is something that is needed for every single day.

In General drugs is a very big deal and should be stopped even though its impossible.

Design Thinking

Going to the beach.

I am passionate of going to the beach because, at the beach most of the times its quiet nothing to worry about and you can do anything you want.

You don’t have anyone like your mom saying go do your homework or saying go read a book any of that productive stuff. At the beach I feel more than at home. I got that passion without even knowing I did, I just found out yesterday. I was looking for something to write about and the only that came up to my mind was the beach.

The beach is the kind of place that no one can hate because there is nothing there you can hate. That’s why I like and passionate about going to the beach!
