Hello! I just wanna say that I really love your art! Also, I kinda wanna ask you for a few tips for shading since I really suck at that and you're so GOOD AT IT :DDD sorry if this was asked before and thanks in advance if you replied ^^
Hi! Thank you so much! <3Hereâs how I shade digitally. I use Clip Studio Paint EX, and draw with XP Pen Artist 16.
Sketch.Â
Hereâs a sketch of Deku. I make sure Iâm happy with it because I donât want to be changing major things in the lineart phase.
At this point I also draw in the guide for the shadows/lights. I try to think of items that are âeasierâ to shade when I do this and imagine that as a replacement to what Iâm actually shading. In other words, I think of Dekuâs hair as âfluffy cloudsâ, because if I donât think of it as human hair, the task suddenly feels less daunting. âŠDoes that make sense?Â
Hereâs more examples of what I mean. Dekuâs hair is made out of several simple shapes like this:
What I generally do is to break down one complex item many simple items.Â
Lineart. I draw a lot of random lines/shapes when drawing my lines to avoid the super clean lineart look:
I draw more shapes on his hair and start filling them in.
Letâs see that again:
Hereâs the finished lineart. I went ahead and gave him a bigger smile so he looks more like Deku.
A little colorâŠ:
And done! I hope this helps somehow TuT
Iâm lousy with blouses.

To the anon whose digital brushes look blurry- more than likely youâre working in a program that is pixel based as opposed to vector based. Meaning when you zoom if youâre able to see every single pixel making up the line. A popular pixel based program is photoshop. In vector based programs, however, everything is made up of lines so when you zoom in thatâs all youâre able to see- a smooth line. However, vector based programs arenât typically used for digital art- adobe illustrator being one.
Yep, this is also a thing, but as you said vector programs arenât your typical way to do digital art! I feel like itâs more suited for logos and icons, although there are most likely artists who can do much more with this.
But to general more painting/actual drawing I feel like Paint tool Sai, Photoshop, Clip studio, Open Canvas, Procreate (for ipad), are much more suited, and in these cases the most likely way of blurry lines would either be canvas size of brush:â)Â
I honestly admire people who can do vector type of illustrations because I would never have the patience for this and for me personally it would probably never be as fun.
Itâs easy! It doesnât look easy at first tbh, but once you get to remember the steps it becomes a very useful process. Let me show you step by step. (This will be a long post btw)⊠First of all, what you need is to have a layout done, you have to sketch the content of each panel to have an idea of how many panels you need or how big these will be, etc. For example:
Once you have it all sketched and planned, create a new normal layer for the panels only!
With the dotted square selection tool draw the frame of the page (which is the bleed that you need) , then divide it into panels by pressing Alt and the dotted square.Â
Next, with the bucket tool fill in the selected areas (panels) with black ink.
Now go to the menu and click on *selection*, then click on *invert*.
Go to *selection* again but this time click on *Increment* (5 times). Afer you have this all done go click on *invert* one last time.
Final step!!: Press D and deselect.
Take into account that this method works for simple paneling, when I need to draw panels with diagonal lines I usually do it by hand, on a new lineart layer.
