THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS PILOT // Ep. 8: hjsakldfhl

So I just got into this awesome animated show. The visuals are amazing, and I positively adore the theming! It's all about deconstruction of princess tropes.

The main princess character is especially intriguing. she wears an elegant long dress and a distinctive pinned-up hairstyle, and most importantly, a demure and gentle smile.

however, the princess' sweet smile is a facade that covers up the horrors that regularly befall her behind closed doors at the hands of the people closest to her. in these more raw and emotional scenes, the princess is nude to represent her vulnerability and her hair has become long, wild, and wavy to represent a more untamed nature. she even tries throwing herself from a tall building to escape from her situation, but doesn't succeed.

there's also this recurring imagery of a beautiful and ethereal floating castle, representing an unreachable and beautiful fantasy. not the most subtle of visual metaphors, but they pull it off with great style!

I'm particularly interested in this early flashback scene where the princess has an important and formative meeting with someone, which ends with something being put on the princess' hand. it's presented in a very dreamlike way, which makes me wonder if this meeting really happened in the way it was shown.

in short, this show can get pretty dark, but it's amazing, so definitely give it a try!

It's hard to seek comfort when most people around you are all kind of crazy-overwhelming.

I did this comic before Episode 3 released not knowing what would actually happen but to no one's surprise, Kinger is actually quite a comforting Character... sometimes.

I do hope their friendships only grow stronger throughout the episodes. I'm very happy so far 😊
