The most upsetting thing about Baelor’s death is the fact that when he talks about the helmet and Maekar’s mace, he’s happy. He’s prideful in that moment of his brother’s strength. That’s the quiet pride of an older sibling who remembers training with his younger brother and remembering that younger brother cry in frustration from lack of strength until he grew strong enough to hold his own. He chuckles, he grins. For a moment, he’s not mad that Maekar absolutely whacked the hell out of him. He’s so fucking proud of his brother. And that’s what makes those next few moments so devastating after the helmet is removed
