hanjithenewcommander:
This felt more like a dream than reality. A titan that could understand speech, speak back, and wasnât out to kill her on sight? As major of a discovery as it was, Hanji had serious questions. Why was it going against the basic instinct almost all other titans had? It was considered to a be a sort of means to find a shifter by chance just theyâd be out of that form and have a mind of their own. In Ymirâs words, to no longer live in an eternal nightmare.
It got the gears in her head turning, thatâs for sure. She just had to get this specimen into her lab to study!
Hands petted the titanâs large finger that nudged her. Look right up to him with the happiest of smiles. âI wanna give you a name. A very special name too. Hm⊠I think Iâll call you Mitis. Does that sound good to you?â
Were it possible, he would have laughed. He really did like this human, she was friendly, and her happiness seemed contagious. The permanent grin upon his face appeared to brighten, at at least it seemed that way as a happy light shined in his chocolate colored eyes.
Heâd never been given a name before. Other humans simply yelled called him Titan, and that was what he identified himself as, as far as names went. He purred contently, leaning down so that his face was a mere inches from the female. If she wanted, all she need do was extend her hand and she could touch him.
âMiiitis?â Approval, of her companionship and of the name, that was what he was giving. âMitiiis...Han-gee..friennd..â

Heâs resting peacefully, because the sun is so pretty in the sky above him and there is nothing he likes better than to enjoy how nice the sun makes him feel and how utterly amazing the sky looks with the birds flying around.
It when he hears a sound does he suddenly become alert, head turning in the direction of where the noise originated.
He tilts his head curiously, waiting. Though he doesnât see anything, Titan is certain that somethingâs there.
Humans werenât niceâŠ? Well, there was a part of him that agreed with that. How was it that he was really having a conversation like this? Only a few weeks before, he had been tailing Erenâs group and had nearly had his arm ripped off at the shoulder. He could still remember the pain. His body though⊠it was more than human, so he supposed he wouldnât lump himself in with them.Â
âIâm not like them. I donât think Iâm human at allâŠâ He trailed off. As if a titan could understand what he meant.Â
âBut you⊠why do titans hurt humans? My friends⊠our friends have died.â And it made him angry. The death was so senseless; so terrible and so jarring. Humans could disappear so quickly. It only made him want to find the others faster. Eren had the strength of an armyâ and Mikasaâ but Armin? Armin was fragile and he needed to protect him.Â
âDifferennt..?â
His vague understanding led him to guess this much..or maybe it was that he could just..feel it. Because he was different than most other titans, and often felt he never fit in among the other mindless creatures. Heâd watched when the others would attack and eat upon instinct while he would hide and hope he wasnât spotted..wasnât attacked. He ate humans sure, but not by nature, only as defense, and only when he couldnât get away to begin with.
He began to feel uneasy, almost as if he could tell that the human before him was growing a little upset. Titan shifted uncomfortably, his nervousness made clear in the way he began to growl softly again.
   âTiitann..nno huurt huumann.â
He only defended himself, that was all. Titan never understood why the humans were so scared and angry at him, or his kind.
    âHumann-huurt titann..â
And with the last statement, he once again pointed towards where the others kept their weapons, nudging the smaller being carefully, to get his point across.

It was hard to contain her excitement. Hearing him attempt human speech once more reminded Hanji of Ilse and the legacy she left behind documenting the first case of titans speaking.
âYes, very nice. I am Hanji-human!â There was so much she wanted to ask the monster, but had a feeling that overdoing it would cause him to grow hostile. So sheâd stick to simple phrases for now. While also moving ever so closer.
âYou are a nice titan too!â
He makes a strange sound, itâs his equivalent of laughter, because he has never seen a human happy to see him. That, along with the praising tone he is receiving, makes him more glad than he has ever seen. Titan moves his hand slowly, gently nudging the female with his finger. He had to be careful, becasue the small humans broke so easily..heâd seen it before.
   âHaann..gee..â
The laughing noise turned into a content purring.Â
    âHaann-gee...nicce..â
Titan was absolutly confident now that this one wouldnât hurt him. She wasnât like the others, that cut away at him and yelled loudly. She was a good human.
Well⊠it was. Talking. Really. It wasnât just in his head. Though Kadajâs throat had gone terribly dry, he swallowed and spoke again.Â
âAh..R-right. Youâre⊠Titan.â When he realized that it was asking him not to hurt it wellâ
âIâll promise not to hurt you if you wonât hurt me.â It was probably pointless bargaining with the creature. ⊠wait, was this what heâd heard the others calling a deviant? Probably. For the moment though, he was safeâunless heâd just fallen into a trap. This was already complete madness and so he thought heâd at least have a go at getting any further information out of him.Â
âIâm called Kadaj. Iâm looking for my friends. Have you seen anyone⊠still alive this way?â He had to try not to be afraid. He had to make it back to Eren in one piece.Â
A Curious tilt of his head as he tried to process the words said to him. All he understood was that there was a mutual understanding and truce of peace between them both. He learned through mimicry, it was the only reason he knew as much as he did now, so he clumsily attempted to repeat the first thing the strange human had said.
  âDaaj...?âÂ
But no, he knew that other wod. Friend! He knew that one and what it meant, and with a proud purring noise, he nodded his head slowly. Titan thought he understood, what was being asked, though he really didnât. This nod was an answer to if he wanted to be friends with the other human, not if he knew where the fighting humans were.
      âOtheer humaaans...noot nice.â
No, theyâd attacked and hurt him, all because he had tried to stop them from getting close to the really mean and dangerous titans, but they hadnât understood.
What was this? A titan that didnât try eating her immediately? And seemed to attempt human speech? That had abnormal written all over it! While she didnât have blades drawn, she did have her handgrips, should she need to make a quick escape.Â
She carefully approached, giving off body language that showed she wasnât gonna attack the monster. âDonât you worry big guy, I donât wanna hurt you.â
Titan was not a creature of words. There were very few he knew, and even fewer that he understood, but the giant did find solace and understand in gestures. And so once he saw that the woman moved slowly, that she didnât seem angry or scared, or dangerous, he calmed down and halted his retreat to whatever small safe-haven that he called his home within the woods and trees.
    âNoo..huurt..?â
The words were repeated, only a little clearer this time, to not only confirm that he wouldnât be hurt, but also that he would not hurt the female..
   âTiitann...niiice..huumann..â
        « ć »   A titan.
He hated them, hated almost more than the people that had mistreated him, and that hate could bring down the Walls. Titans had done nothing good to him or anyone else, and he had no reason to react differently from how he reacted now: by pulling out his blades, his whole body tense, ready to attack, were the titan to make a move. He could take it down alone, it was a small one, didnât look very smart eitherâŠ
But it didnât charge towards him the way the others heâd seen had. It was just⊠looking at him, and Kuklo frowned. What was it waiting for?
He felt...indifferent towards this observing human. As long as there was no aggression towards him, then Titan was indeed a very peaceful giant. Though he wanted to move closer, his curiosity urged him too, Titan learned long ago that humans felt threatened when he did this.
And a threatened human was one that often hurt him.
Instead, he sat down, a clumsy and quite ungraceful movement that caused the ground to tremble a bit beneath him. A curious look was sent towards the human, eyes locking. The four-legged animal, the horse, was already making itâs retreat from the giant, and as it was doing so, Titan reached out for it again, a sound coming from deep in its throat that, if one listened carefully enough, almost sounded like a word.
   â...Staay...â
How could he have been so blind? Kadaj had walked nearly right into the god forsaken beast as heâd continued his mad dash through the battlefield in an attempt to locate the members of the scattered Scouting Legion. More pointedly; He meant to locate Eren, Armin, and their friendsâ and Franâ and get them out of harmâs way even if it meant doing so by force.Â
This was something that was inevitable and yetâ Kadaj stood dumb and flabbergasted as the Titan leaned towards him.Â
Impossible. It had⊠spoken? No. Not impossible. If Eren could wear such a fearsome form then..
âWh-who are you?â His hand lingered at the hilt of Souba, but he did not draw his blade against his better judgment. Kadaj prayed desperately that there was some humanity in this oneâ or at the least that itâd be slow enough for him to get away.Â
Chocolate eyes followed where the humanâs hand lingered, because he knew better. Titan knew about the swords, though he didnât know the word for them, and he knew that they hurt him a lot. That was the last thing he wanted, to be hurt, but the giant relaxed just slightly when this strange human spoke to him.
Most humans attacked, or ran, but this one spoke back.
The question was new to him, heâd only heard it asked to him once or twice before to others heâd interacted shortly with, so it took him a moment to comprehend. He had no real name, nothing that separated him from the other mindless giants. But he knew what others referred to his kind as...and so  with a wounded and pained hand, he pointed to himself.
â..Titaann..â Hand then gesturing to the weapon at the humanâs side. â No..Huurt.. Titaan.â

Steam rising from his wounds as they healed the giant gave a warning growl to whatever was approaching close to him., Titan has never seen a human like this..thereâs something about this one that makes him feel more uneasy than usual, and the giant doesnât know what to make of him.Â
He leans down towards him, cautious..careful...mouth clumsily forming words that are barely able to be understood.

A curious sound, akin to a growl, emits from the Titan as he looks towards the human, setting down the the horse that he had found only moments ago. It was merely a toy to him, he had no real intention of hurting the animal,Â
and he wanted to show that he meant the human no harm as well.
Chocolate eyes studied the other carefully, not a silence as he tried to figure out if there was danger here or not.
