I feel like the writing was really good for the most part until the couple episodes and I wish the season was longer . It should have been longer so that it gave more time to actually figure out feelings and at least give Eric and Rahim proper closure . I thought it would been nice to have Eric and Adam end up together. They way they handled relationships ending in general was really shitty this season. I hated how things went with Ola and Otis as well.
oh yeah, the writing in general is exceptional. the characters have great depth and the realism of the show is intriguing, as it does portray people actually being people with the own rawness and flaws. but i, personally, see the whole 'let the bully win over their victim' trope as something that has been used far too often in relation to relationships in general, and i'm just personally tired of it. it was a shitty move, doing rahim like that? i would’ve reacted the same way had it been any other character. it’s just not right. to think that eric would openly just go with that in front of someone who is supposed to be his boyfriend, a guy who has been nothing but honest with him from day one? i just don’t see it as something romantic, and i feel like adam needs more time to redeem himself properly, as in actually trying actively to show eric that he is coming around. i’m just not big on eric and adam ending up in general, at least not with such a short span between him having bullied eric and suddenly wanting to come out.
but, as rahim said, ‘he might be there to hold your hand, but are you sure he will catch you’ (along those lines, i don’t remember the quote correctly now), which might as well be foreshadowing in the upcoming season, because i can only assume that they are doing another with the loose ends we got this time around.
but yeah, the breakup this season was awful, god awful. at the same time, there is some realism in that, because a lot of breakups are nasty and complicated like that, being a bit shitty. it was a red thread this season, definitively, and while not every breakup can be solved properly... i still feel like it was... a bit cheap to make every ending relationship into something complicated (such as jean’s sudden pregnancy as well ? why drag that into everything ? ). i feel like ola and otis could’ve figured things out differently? they are relatively bright characters with a lot of social competence? so it was a shame to see them end like that, but hey, good on ola figuring herself out though ? the scene with her and adam made me laugh. just, casually doing queer tests while working, that was just hand kissing gorgeous
