Janaâcoa
Janaâcoa, from janad (spicy) and the loanword chocolate shortened to coa, is a spicy hot chocolate for adâike until they are old enough to drink janaâcaf â and for Mandos with a sweet tooth.Â
With spiced caf being a canon drink, I quickly started to look for a similar drink that could be consumed by children as well. My main drive was that no responsible adult would let their child consume caffeine, and I also doubted (thinking about my own adversion of coffee when I was younger) any child would find caf worth a second sip. That in mind, what is better suited for the adâike approved version of janaâcaf than a cup of hot chocolate mixed with just enough spices to prepare you for a piquant future?
As you may have guessed, I donât have enough time to melt chocolate in milk and cook it with a chilli pepper for every occasion. Sometimes, I just want the practicality of a spice mix that I can dump in my store-bought chocolate milk or chocolate powder and heat up in a microwave. Â
JanaâcoaÂ
6 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground chili Œ teaspoon ground nutmeg Œ teaspoon ground turmeric
Mix the spices thoroughly and store safely. Use œ teaspoon spice mix for 1 cup / 250ml milk and chocolate milk powder of your choice. Whisk in the spices in a small pot over medium heat until warm. Â
Note: For my own janaâcoa, I used the Nesquik chocolate milk powder I bought in France a while ago, because I donât like throwing away food, though you can find countless recipes for making your own powder online as well. I also used oat milk, but really any milk of your choice works. If you want to feel fancy, you can melt dark chocolate in a pot and whisk your milk and spices in until it is thoroughly mixed.Â
