BEAT.
“mom and dad haven’t been at home at all.” as always busy, barely at home but hey, they love them (well they love rhyme more). “you can watch something while i make us something quick.” he looks around the kitchen. he could make fried rice or curry. maybe he should ask what rhyme wants.
“no, keep that. mom always leaves money when she wants us to buy groceries.” at least she is considerate enough to leave something for them to buy groceries. “what you wanna eat? i was thinking some curry or fried rice.” he said as he looks at his sister.
“Oh...I hope they come home soon.” It’s awkward for them, awkward for Rhyme at the very least. To be doing all this work, and while the good grades and higher chances of good schools are it’s own reward, she wanted her parents to acknowledge her without comparing her to Beat. It wasn’t fair to either of them. But especially not her big brother.
“Hmm okay. If you say so.” With a small nod, she makes her way over to sit on the couch, borderline curling up instantly and turning on the TV. What better thing to watch then her favorite Super Sentai shows? “Uhh...fried rice sounds good. But whatever you wanna eat, I’ll eat.”
“...Mom and Dad didn’t cook?” Not that Rhyme hated Beat’s cooking, in fact she loved it. But...it wasn’t his job to cook for the two of them. And had she more free time, she’d learn to do it as well so it wouldn’t fall on his shoulders each time. It wasn’t fair to Beat especially when he was trying to work so much harder in all the other stuff he’s doing.
Still face down in his bed, she turns to look as he gets up and basically leaves more free space for her. However, Rhyme rolled over and followed him, albeit significantly more sluggishly and slowly.
Leaning on the counter, she lets her head loll over for a moment, fatigue and curiosity both present. “What are you going to make? And do you want me to buy things after school tomorrow? I think...I have a nice chunk of change saved up to buy more of our favorites.”

BEAT.
she is so precious! never change rhyme!
“Beat?! Why are you crying? Is it cause you’re lonely? Don’t...don’t worry! I’ll stay with you.”
“--Beat says I’m not allowed to date until I’m 50...so...I guess my right person will find me then?”
-- @groovepawn
“Ya know, I don’t need a relationship to be happy. I’m just glad I have my big brother and my friends.”
TWEWY anime bringin’ people back...I should be here more!
“I know that’s not the deck Beat’s talking about...but...can we play Pokemon?”
Rhyme lets Beat play with the others and have fun and show off...
But we all know the true smash master is her!
Rhyme has a knack for small strategies and Pokemon is the game she shines best in. But Smash? Learning the combos? And learning how to best utilize them? Maining the Pokemon Trainer? More likely than you think.
Beat dominates in Splatoon though. Her reactionary time is a little lacking in that game. At the end of the day she’s still a kid and still highly enjoying just painting in one area.

@raibito·
He scanned over the list of school supplies in his hand, nervously scratching at the side of his neck. He did not remember his list of school supplies being this long when he was Rhyme’s age. Did she go to some sort of fancy school, or were things like this really changing so fast? Granted, Shibuya was always changing, but not quite like this. (And he didn’t even know if her school was even located in Shibuya to begin with.) From what he remembered, Rhyme’s parents did put a lot of pressure on the poor kid education wise, but some of the things on here seemed a bit excessive…
“Christ, I don’t know where to get half of this shit, but…” He paused as he re-scanned the list a few times until he was able to locate a few of the more basic items. “Pens, pencils… That’s easy. Wanna get those first?”
Rhyme attended cram school after regular school. The amount of pressure put on her to do well, which came with being prepared, was insane. All it left her was to her own devices for the time being as she got ready. Having Neku’s company was more than a blessing, as Beat was...busy. It was so comforting to have a trusted friend by her side.
“It’s okay, Neku. I can figure out the complicated stuff later. But...I guess right now the pencils, pens, and notebooks would be okay. We can go get those. At least that’s like...a large chunk of what I need.”
some thugs just want to watch the world learn
“I did a ton of trading! I had something someone else needed, and then I was able to trade again and again, and I got that one for you.” Pokemon was one of the few things she could enjoy in her spare time without guilt. One of the more quick and ready at her hand indulgences she got to enjoy.
Why would she not do something for her brother? Someone who didn’t necessarily care for strategy games...but still took it upon himself to play with her. He even was able to find his own favorites and use those. And the best thing ever? They got to play in English! The later games with all the customization are her favorite.
“I think you can still rename them.”
@bitonojo
I hella need to be here more...
It’s always Shiki loving hours on main
BEAT.
[♥] [♣] [♠] [♦] Nah, Beat could see the tired look on Rhyme’s face. She tries to hide it but Beat knew better and the way his eyes focus on her as she talks, speaks leagues. Rhyme’s body language also said enough. Man… maybe if he improved his own grades Rhyme would be allowed to take a load off. The ‘rents put way too much pressure on her shoulders.
❝ I dunno I mean, Callous seems pretty hard to me. Yet eeeveryone else seems t’ be doin’ just fine. ❞ Complains are pretty normal. ❝ ‘Cept for me. ❞ Ugh. Things were never this difficult in Cali. Did they even teach this class in high school back there? Maybe for some AP weirdos but not for the normal kids.
❝ Ugh. ❞ Beat lets his head fall onto the table, his forehead sure to pick up some graphite from the work in front of him. ❝ Ya wanna grab some ice cream after this? I’ll try t’ finish up real quick and we can head out. Sound good? ❞
No matter the pressure she couldn’t complain. So she wouldn’t. She’d go, be the good girl their parents expect her to be, and continue working and take free moments as they come. Even small snack moments like this with Beat. Maybe they could play a game together if she finished the rest of her homework?
“I don’t think I’ll get to calculus for a while...but you could always ask Neku or Shiki for help too. Study groups are super helpful. A lot of high schoolers do them.” Japan is definitely more math oriented than anything else. Math is the foundation for essentially...everything. Numbers don’t change no matter the language.
As his head hits the table, she can’t help but laugh a little. Taking care to use her sleeve to attempt to wipe the graphite off of his forehead. “Yeah, ice cream sounds great! It’s been dull lately. Maybe getting out in the city would do us some good.”
NEKU.
“Not really,” Neku was quick to brush that question away. Sale or not, he’d just bought a new shirt a couple of weeks before and Neku was sure that’s all the clothes shopping he’d need to do for the next month. Too bad Shiki hadn’t been the one to spot Rhyme instead of him-
“I didn’t really expect you to be out shopping sales for him though. I figured he’d be the type who’d want to go out and pick out his own stuff.”
“Mmm...I’m not really sale hunting. I just heard about it on the radio and figured I could get him something. He’s always doing nice stuff for me so I wanted to be able to do something nice for him.” She had definitely thought of his skateboard before. However, Beat was extremely detailed in the maintenance and upkeep of his board. So Rhyme would have been lost on that one.
In short, this was just simply doing a kindness for a kindness. “Think of it as a nice surprise.”
???.
۵ ◜𝄞◞ ۵ ┊ At least she knows now that the tickets are real. Hopefully. At the mention of her having forgotten about The Reaper’s Game, Gemiya can’t help but form a curious expression her way. How could- anyone forget that kind of thing? It’s lost on her but she figures its best not to ask. Maybe there’s a reason she forgot.
❝ Beat? Uh- ❞ Gemiya looks at the two tickets in her hand. A third ticket would be… a lot. That and Beat probably wouldn’t look at her without some form of wariness and suspicion. Maybe she could pull some favors for the third. There is that one bouncer in her club that owes her a favor… … … .. yeah it’s doable.
❝ Sure. I’ll see if I can pull some strings for a third ticket. ❞ As off-putting Beat could be, from what she could see- he was a decent guy who obviously cared a lot about his sister. ❝ Just let me know whens good for you two. ❞
There’s the most hopeful look in Rhyme’s eyes as she’s silently begging the reaper for another ticket. As much as Rhyme wanted to go to Disney...big trips like that have always been a family thing. And while she can live with her parents not going, Beat not going was pretty much a deal breaker. The guilt of going somewhere super fun without him bothered her deeply.
“Great! I’ll ask him and then we’ll come back and tell you! Okay?” Beat was wonderful in Rhyme’s opinion. Despite...some very one sided mild animosity at times, Rhyme always feels like they’d choose each other over anything else.
“Uhh...wait. Your name? How do you spell your name so I know to write it down for him.” She is of course going to need to be able to find her later. And not having a name would definitely make things a lot harder.
