Be not afraid! For this Witch Hat Monday I bring you the most blursed creature of all, Biblically Accurate Brushbuddy đď¸đď¸đď¸đď¸đď¸
geto saying âat least curse me a little at the endâ vs geto dropping the âare you the strongest because youâre Satoru Gojo or are you Satoru Gojo because youâre the strongestâ during their last conversation in hidden inventory, which definitely counts as a curse
I believe in the âKing Dean is doing vivisections to try and figure out what makes witches witchesâ theory and Iâm a little worried heâs gonna do it to Bel but at the same time I think heâs politically savvy enough to know that he canât just do that to one of the Wise without repercussions so I donât actually think that he would risk killing Beldaruit while he is under his care, heâs too careful and playing the long game for that
(Which is part of why I find Eoleo scarier than king Dean, cause kids are more unpredictable and impulsive than adults (and also cause Eoleo is trying to manipulate other children who might be less aware of what heâs doing than a seasoned politician like Beldaruit))
Heâs more likely to run minor experiments (ie blood tests) and just use him and Rili as a hostage than to actually do any kind of permanent physical harm
(I also donât believe that Deanreldy is evil per se, I donât think heâs purely power hungry and evil, he genuinely seems to care for the good of the people (while at the same time being a hypocrite cause he didnât evacuate the ghettos) and rightly criticizes Witch society on some issues but he also wants to consolidate all the power in himself and will abuse his power to gain more)
Just like Beldaruit showed his ugly side while dealing with Custas (pointed cap witch high society is quite classist and elitist in general and even Belâs disability and general benevolence doesnât absolve him of similar prejudice/abuse of his position)
The whole dichotomy between the Ezrest family and the Witches both abusing their power in a way is fascinating and I love how it interacts with the separation between magic and medicine and isnât just a one dimensional âpolitical ruler craves more powerâ plot line the way it seems to be with the other royals in the Peninsula
The whole emphasis/conflict around the separation of medicine and magic through multiple major characters is extremely interesting to me (on a personal level cause I am in the medical field) and I love how much this story deals with ableism and medical ethics
Qifrey: casually holding a twelve year old (40kg per kid on average) on each arm for however long the flight to Kalhn takes
Also Qifreyâs willowy (heh) ass arm to a random Kalhn resident:
man i was really hoping they would translate this as âfirst apprenticeâ to keep the double meaning (her being the first to join while also introducing herself as the most skilled) but they went with just the skill aspect in both english and german sub and dub
what Utowin wants to wake up to every morning
canât decide if the whole âthe Silverwood will grow roots and consume the host if they ever feel truly at peaceâ plot is
a) a reflection of how a lot of traumatized people end up afraid that letting go of their trauma will result in them losing a defining part of themselves
or if
b) itâs a commentary on how a lot of creative people feel that they create better art when they are suffering on some level
or
c) itâs representing a secret third thing
or d) all of the above
but yeah i donât think itâs a coincidence that the two people who are hosts are Custas and Qifrey, who might have the most unresolved traumatic backstories of the whole bunch (Luluci and Rili are also contenders but their trauma is more isolated to specific periods of their lives)
At the very least the silverwood is a metaphor for very unprocessed PTSD/CPTSD.
Constantly reminding oneself of discomfort and bad things and never allowing oneself to sit in peace I think 100% would lead to nervous system dysregulation, thus also making them on edge and unable to be at peace on a physiological level. CPSTD and PTSD keep the nervous system in a near constant state of being either hyper or hypo aroused, disallowing it from being in the ventral vagal state which is the one where we feel most calm and normal. Plus with the context surrounding how Qifrey and Vustas each acquired their parasites, the silverwood seems to show up similarly to PTSD/CPTSD. A big part of PTSD/CPTSD is constantly being brought back to a time when you were in danger/being hurt, which like. I dont have the words for it rn but yall can see how that connects right.
Ofc I dont even know if it was intentional on shirahama's end and if it is I doubt thats the only thing she intended with it (Because qifrey and custas 100% both definitely have actual PTSD/CPTSD) but yeah. I think its definitely leaning towards Interpretion A that you said because Qifrey is actively seeking to relieve himself of it which contradicts B bc even at best I dont think he actually saw any value in it.
yes B/a manufactured dependency on the silverwood is more inspired by Custasâ (using it as a mobility aid) and Ininiaâs (seemingly using it as prosthetic hand(s)) /possibly the other brimmed caps (Iguin and more) being hosts (and also the close tie between the silverwood and magic/art in this universe)
repressed trauma/ptsd is definitely the primary interpretation but as the second person said as well, Shirahama is definitely doing multiple things with it at the same time
Intellectually I know that they made Olruggioâs beard denser and Dagdaâs beard sparser because a lot of individual beard hairs are harder to consistently animate and they need to keep the characters on model, however, that will not stop me from making jokes about Dagda donating beard hairs for Olruggioâs beard hair transplant surgery
âYour beard transplant was a successâ
âwhereâs Dagdaâ
âwho do you think gave you the beard hairâ looking character models
ngl i rolled my eyes a bit at 3/4 of the girls having a male love interest set up but Shirahama did a good job of subverting the trope later on for now (Euini turned into a werwolf, Tartah chose Custas and got involved with the Brimmed Caps, Eoleo is a creepy little guy Tetia must be protected from)
do especially appreciate how there was a line where it seemed like Custas was trying to compete with Tartah for Cocoâs affections only for the two of them to both end up on the other side together
they all truly went âbut iâve got a job (going through witchy horrors) so idrc about that rnâ and i love that for us, subvert those expectations
i can see the coco/agott vibes too, though iâm not sure how intentional that is in the writing (but maybe thatâs just me being too used to being queerbaited)
WHA chapter 96 spoilers
i have a feeling that the reason Hieheart is looking to talk to Qifrey is cause someone messed with Jujyâs memory in a way that did damage to her brain
(a possible side effect of memory erasure that was mentioned early on in the manga that we havenât really seen happen yet in the story, i thought it would happen to Nolnoa but we havenât seen any signs of that)
it would explain the sad way he is looking at his apprentice and her seeming kind of subdued compared to her usual personality
plus it seems like the circumstances of how Qifrey arrived at the great hall are known so it would make sense for an acquaintance to reach out if they had a related issue, especially if they felt they couldnât go to the Knights about it (the other people very familiar with memory erasure) or if they ended up unable/unwilling to help like the last time someone (cough cough only offering deportation/exile to one of their own lol) tried to get their help post memory manipulation
take all of Jujyâs pain and give it to Esthies tbh
I love you fic writers who use the âGojo refuses to take off his blindfold/bandages in front of Suguru even when things are getting intimate as a way to distance himself from him so he doesnât get hurt when he inevitably leaves him againâ head canon in secret meeting/slow burn fix it AUs
Especially when Geto is feeling absolutely devastated/incensed by it
i havenât read yesterdayâs chapter yet (waiting for the translation), but the imagery surrounding Tetia recently is making me nervousâŚ
the birds and the fancy clothing and the blindfold combined with Eoleoâs interest for her and how the royal family is basically holding Bel and co captive is very much making me connect dots in ways that remind me of kept songbirds or falconry (trimmed wings, falcon hoods etc)
so iâm new in this fandom so idk if thatâs a controversial opinion or if itâs a very common interpretation, but i feel like itâs pretty clear that Qifrey was manipulating Coco a bit when he dropped the âmy roots are going to need plenty of space to growâ line with that smile (especially having read the rest of whatâs currently out, including the scene of kid!frey stealing the map from Olly)
heâs a three dimensional character and he truly deeply cares for the girls, and i do believe that on some level it was a real possibility that he is conscious of that telling her his secrets would be enough to turn him into a tree in the way it does when Olrugio finds out, but i do also think that he intentionally told her that to make her stop asking questions
if you think about it in a silly fanfic trope way and not in the more serious media analysis âSilverwood and how trauma affects peopleâ way, the whole issue with the parasitic silverwood for Olruggio and Qifrey is kinda just reverse Hanahaki
instead of a plant growing out of heartbreak because of perceived unrequited love, for Qifrey the treeification happens when Olruggio accepts him and loves him despite everything, and in both cases memory erasure is part of the cure
in Hanahaki the âinfectedâ person gives up their memories/feelings if they get the plant removing surgery, meanwhile in Oufrey canon Olruggio gives up his memories to keep Qifrey on edge enough not to go full tree
canât decide if the whole âthe Silverwood will grow roots and consume the host if they ever feel truly at peaceâ plot is
a) a reflection of how a lot of traumatized people end up afraid that letting go of their trauma will result in them losing a defining part of themselves
or if
b) itâs a commentary on how a lot of creative people feel that they create better art when they are suffering on some level

i feel like iâm in the minority with liking OPLA season 2 less than season 1 judging by what iâm seeing from reactors and people online⌠maybe itâs cause i like this stretch of story in general less than i like East Blue Saga
