wait so does the dishonored fandom actually not realize that corvo isn’t white and serkonians aren’t considered white in gristol and part of why everyone was so ready to demonize corvo was because he’s a “foreigner”/poc…. even though there’s multiple notes in the game referring to serkonians as “savage” serkonos as “exotic” and “dangerous and crime filled” and saying that serkonos is best known as a good vacation spot for the rich… even though gristol/the empire canonically colonized serkonos… even though if you play no kill in dh1 when you get into the sewers where the guards usually say corvo is awful because of killing guards they instead say he definitely killed the empress because he’s serkonian and “you know how things are down there”…..

#I will write up a proper meta post some day but I genuinely didn’t realize this wasn’t common knowledge…#this is also why the empresses death affected daud so much #or part of why… corvo was blamed for killing her even though he tried to protect her and everyone believed it bc of gristol’s racism #even though he was a high ranking official and most people knew he was Emily’s father #and he suddenly gets framed as an aggressor against his own child…#like you don’t think that would affect daud bc he’s also serkonian? to see corvo who’s the model ‘respectable serkonian’ in gristol #lose everything bc he’s serkonian first. the people of gristol view him as serkonian before they view him as the lord protector

finished dishonored 2 last night and I definitely should not have played corvos route first bc so many parts of the game very clearly make more sense with Emily… like the interactions between corvo and jessamines heart read as a bit out of place after playing the first game where the whole time she is a ghost who haunts him/who’s death he feels the weight of. Who’s death the whole city feels the weight of. She is the ghost that haunts dunwall and that made the corvo/jessamine interactions feel weird but then I realized the role of jessamine in the game was originally designed to be for her relationship to Emily and it makes sooo much more sense like yeah this does track for a mother who wants to let the daughter she didn’t get to raise know she is proud.
