“Do you think it’s peaceful?”
Those words echoed through his mind dozens of times a day.
But here he was, shut out from the rest of the circus, lying on a bed that got harder everyday, in a room that hadn’t seen light in lord knows how long.
All he could do was think about her.
Every single minute he spent in the circus, was a minute where he missed her. A minute that tore him apart because no matter how hard he tried, or how long he sulked: he could never get her back.
So maybe that was why he pushed everyone away. Maybe that was why he treated Pomni like shit, and always put Gangle down.
And still, in his dark room, it was all he could think about.
The more he heard her voice, the harder he felt his heart pound. Each syllable was a rock placed upon his chest, and each breath he could hear was one more pinch to his skin.
His eyes shut tight, believing that if he just closed his eyes and pretended this was all a dream, he would be happy again. That he’d be able to move on, and let Pomni and Ragatha and everyone else in.
But he couldn’t, because if he let them in, they’d all end up like her.
His eyes opened, wide enough to see some parts of his room. His now dilated pupils darted around the room, feeling like something was there.
He brought his cartoony hands up to his shoulders, practically hugging himself as the weight of the room overtook him. His body sat up without a thought, and his head turned towards the darkest corner of the area.
And that captured his attention. The longer he stared, the louder her voice got:
“You’re the only one I trust, Jax.”
His gaze intensified, as it focused in on a small hole in the wall.
“You’d save me if it happened right, Jax?”
He felt weak. Like he wasn’t in control of his body. His head seemed to spin and shake every so slightly, making sweat feel like it was pricking his digital skin. The longer he looked at the empty hole in the wall, the louder the noises in his head got. Static and her murmurs made his chest heave and creak, leaving him gripping at his overalls.
He felt no control, he couldn’t tear his eyes away from the spot, even for a second. He tried to take a breath, hands now moving to grip his face, which felt more unreal than it ever did…
But the most normal moment of this all happened just as he look a labored breath. It all went silent.
He thought he was going crazy, and it didn’t help that from the cracks of the bare spot, came eight finger tips, attached to four fingers on a pair of hands.
And as he watched the hands creep out, feeling a sense of calm.
The hands outstretched in an odd position, slowly approaching him.
And he knew they were hers. He could never forget them.
If he forgot them, what kind of friend person would be be?
One of the hands came to a slow stop in front of him.
“Do you think it’s peaceful?”
Her voice echoes through the room.
his breath hitches and his eyes go wide. Like he had seen a ghost. But his chest wasn’t heaving, and his heart wasn’t pounding, and the prickling sensations had slowly faded away. His toothy mouth parted ever so slightly, while his own gloved hand outstretched towards hers.
Everything about the anomaly in front of him screamed… an exit. A better way out. It mesmerized him. Made his brain all quiet. Well, more quiet than it had been in a long long time.
The silence is beautiful. He wishes he could stay in it forever, but: all good things must come to an end.
“I know it is.” He finally responds, his voice breaking halfway through the reply.
He finally lets his hand intertwine with hers, letting his worries go, and his stress leave his mind.
The next thing he knew, he was happy.
And he knew that laugh from anywhere, and every single giggle and every single cackle was a different color. Her whispers were yellow, and her cries were red. And every single color that she felt, he saw, and he had never been more at peace in his entire time in the circus.
This was where he wanted to be.
Where her words were the rainbow, and there was no more dark room, no more angry people, and no more digital world.
RAHHH IM ON A TADC RAMPAGE AFTER THAT EP
