I love looking up at oak trees. It could be during the golden hours of the afternoon or during the soft light of dawn. I could be lying beneath one near a brook for a shaded nap or sitting in its massive boughs, feeling the strength of its bark under my fingertips.
But no matter how I interact with an oak, what time of day, or the season, I feel the same wonder that those before me felt for it. Generations speaking back into the past. And I know that there will be those who come well after me that will find it just as sacred too.
This isn't my usual type of post, not that I really post all that often, but this is really important.
In Iowa, Kim Reynolds just signed a bill into law that allows parents or guardians to volunteer a minor in their care for certain medical procedures or hospitalization even if the child disagrees and remains involuntary.
In other words, if you are a minor and have any form of mental illness history (depression, autism, etc.) your parent can remove your right to your own body and overrule your voice on the matter. Most of the protections that had previously been in place have been revoked, including that the minor can no longer object to the adult's opinion and that the parent and doctor no longer have to go through juvenile court for permission. They can now just do whatever treatment is in question. This includes medication and being placed in a mental hospital.
In and of itself, this isn't the worse bill adjustment out there, but it does open the door to a lot of potential harm toward the autistic community, disability communities, and LGBTQ+, given that they are trying really hard to reclassify that as mental illness right now.
Please petition your local government and local court judges to bring this bill and others like it into question. The reason so many of these bills go into law unchecked, and often without the public's knowledge or vote, is because they intentional limit our information or make it difficult to locate or understand.

To the lady at the bookstore who bought a stack of banned books and told me, “I want my child to be able to read these in the future,” I see you.
If they want to worship a fire, let them burn. No use wasting water for those who'll run right back to the flames.
So I'm rewatching Kung Fu Panda. And Tai Lung from Kung Fu Panda and Dabi from BNHA are literally the same person wtf
Backstory. Blue fire. It's basically the same thing
I found sprouts in my garden! They're really, really young still, but they're growing! I'm kind of surprised. Usually they take longer to poke their little heads out of the compost.
Greetings! Been a little while since my last post.
It's been so rainy, cloudy, and gloomy outside as of late! I get the feeling that winter is desperately clawing its way back every time the sun tries to drive it away. As a result, I've been rather low on energy, though dreams of what my garden will look like come mid-spring and the tea parties I plan to host have kept me going for the most part.
All of my early seeds have been sown (things like peas, brassicas, and carrots that like a bit of chill in order to germinate properly), and I'm slowly getting around to painting my bedroom in softer hues. The days still feel like three in one, the weeks going by both too fast to track and almost mind-numbingly slow all at once. But soon the green will return more fervently alongside the vivid scent of flowers, and knowing this, I find myself on the brink with expectation and longing.
Until next time!
Any day that I get to hang out with my friends goofing around and playing board games is a good day in my book. Plus, now my house is spottless since I deep cleaned it before they got here. Win-win!

Very sleepy day. I don't think my body is quite adjusted to the random heat waves that have been bouncing around. It's usually like...40º right now? The 60s and (tomorrow) 70s we've been getting is wild. Especially since we just had borderline blizzard conditions just last week.
