This is an educational audio dealing with guilt and self-blame. I speak about a variety of subjects and examples of things for which people may feel guilt and self-blame, so it's generally applicable. I talk about how guilt and self-blame can be helpful and appropriate in moderation, but also talk about how people may become stuck in unhealthy and self-destructive patterns when there is an excessive amount of guilt and blame. I also talk a little about shame. I discuss assigning responsibility for things and how this shouldn't be a black-and-white thing where we assign 100% of the responsibility to ourselves, and how this often occurs in people who have experienced abuse and trauma, and I explain why this is and how it can be a dangerous mindset. I talk about self-punishment and its ineffectiveness, as well as prompting you to question the function and value of any self-punishment you may be performing. I then talk about redemption, making amends and finding meaning and value in what happened, finding positive ways to atone for what happened or what you did, in ways that aren't self-destructive. This audio may be confronting or uncomfortable at times, but it is designed to help you reduce and heal from problematic and unhealthy guilt, self-blame and shame. I hope you find it helpful!
