DC x DP Prompt *23*
He really should sleep more. But for that he would have to cut some of his responsibilities off and that was just not possible at this time. He was in the middle of training as the Ancient of Balance, the GIW was too active and he needed to update the new servers over the weekend for the company.
So really, it wasn't on him for not getting enough sleep. He needed the money, he had to help his friends and without his lessons he wouldn't be able to control his powers.
On the other hand, he may have just said something stupid.
The Justice League may have summoned the Ancient of Balance, because of some threat. And maybe his co-workers had called the IT Department one to many times in the last few days. But it really wasn't an excuse for his greeting:
"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"
Yeah, maybe he needs a little bit more sleep...
As the rest of the team stood in bewildered silence, Red Robin stepped forward. “The power supply is unable to be rebooted without possibly frying the universal hard drive.”
Danny went from facepalming to perking up. Someone besides Tucker that spoke his true mother tongue.
“What symptoms are exhibiting themselves?”
The two began an in-depth discussion on the matter at hand while JLD and most of JL looked on in bewilderment.
In approximately 20 minutes, they had sorted out a problem that had taken the OGs and JLD weeks to try to figure out.
“You look pretty wiped out. What’s up with that?”
“I’m new as an Ancient, so I have much to learn. Meanwhile, I am trying to keep the US Government from stopping the war they started pushing for back when that one creep was in charge, plus on the weekends I am updating servers for the pay to afford my share of rent and bills.”
Red Robin quietly gestured to the hallway. When they got there, Tim slipped out a business card. “Tell them Alvin Draper sent you. I don’t know where you’re at now, but it sounds crooked as hell.”
Phantom glanced down at the card and grew still. “This is the company I work for.”
Hearing this, Red Robin froze, silent shock and outrage pouring out of him. “I‘ll see to it that this gets rectified; it is inexcusable to work you so hard.”
Based on that one tweet of how ppl refer to 'The wife' when talking about an eldritch being they are devoted to or something.
Demon Twins AU prompt
Danny gets stuck as an eldritch shadow creature after his Death because he didn't want to leave his twin. They swore they'd always have each other's backs afterall.
So now he's quiet literally stuck to his twin as his literal shadow. Slowly gaining his strength back.
Meanwhile, the JLD is wondering why some dark spirit has latched itself onto the youngest bat.
(Does Damian know?? Maybe it'd be more angst filled if he didn't, tho
The notification came not even a second ago, and it had him fly across the city just as fast.
Nightwing barely acknowledged the thrum of the Batmobil following closely behind, already on his way to west end of Gotham City.
"5 Assasins in view, more possibly hidden away. A child, around 11, leading them." Oracle's voice was clipped in the way Dick knew she didn't like this.
This screamed like a trap, why else would the League of Assassins be in Gotham of all places?
He lands on the roof, tense and gripping his escrima sticks tightly.
Batman is on his tail, taking over lead, and they are near the group of unwanted guests.
He sees Red Robin on the other roof, backup if needed.
The child clicks his tongue at the sight of them, shaking head with a grumble. "Danyal, Father has found us, we should get this over quickly."
The amount of shock and confusion he feels makes him wonder if it were a dream.
Another click of tongue but not from the child in front of them, no. It was another child re-appearing from the invisible spectrum.
His hand around the throat of a limp talon.
"I didn't think he would be so fast." The other child comments.
"As expected of father." The first child, green eyed and serious nods. Towards batman.
"Now, for the reason we are here."
He steps to the edge of the building, and Nightwing desperately wants to get him from it, clearing his throat.
"I, Damian al Ghul, heir to the demon's head, formally declare war on the Court of Owls." Damian's voice is loud, unforgiving and unrelenting. Eyes burning.
It almost made him miss the words he spoke.
"The League of Assassins has a claim to Gotham," the boy spits. "And i won't let some society take it from us."
The unnamed twin throws the limp talon from the edge with a grunt. "Take that as a warning!" He halfheartedly shouts after.
And so it began.
A Funny Take on Damian killing Danny
Yes, this is demon twins au. You know the trope, Ra's Al Ghul makes Damian and Danyal fight to the death. Now here's the humorous take
Damian loves killing his brother. Sure, the killing itself isn't fun, but what comes after? He loves it. Because in his pit madness, Danyal behaves like a badger. And Damian, inheriting his father's lack of self preservation, has absolutely no problem trying to wrangle the feral animal that is his brother
"And? What did you decide on?" Duke asks, fork slipping from his mouth and chewing, focused on Danny.
The boy in question hums. "Oh yeah, I'm totally joining in on the nightlife."
The statement has all of them stopping in their tracks, blatantly staring at the still eating boy.
"This will be my emo arc, daylight vigilante turned dark."
Tim snorts, Jason gives a smirk, nudging the eldest sibling next to him from his frozen state.
"Ooooh," Steph leans forward. "Have you decided? Bat or Bird?"
"New name?" Cass jumps in on the questioning with a small smile, eyes crinkling.
"Will you be joining us tonight then, danyal?" His twin speaks up for the first time during dinner, eyes narrowed and calculating.
"Yes." Is the short reply, with the way damian's lips turn down and displeasure makes itself clear, the intention of giving such a short answer has been met.
"Danny," Bruce gains the attention, leaning forward with his fingers interlocked and brows furrowed with what must be worry.
"Are you sure? I don't want you to feel pressured into this just because everyone else is—"
"I'm more than sure, B!"
The man sighs. "And I won't be able to stop you?"
"Mhm." He gives a nod.
"Okay," his shoulders sag in defeat. "Do you have everything then—?"
"Yep!"
"Even—"
"B, I'm pretty sure I got everything, you can, if in your opinion I am missing something, give it to me later!"
Danny grins, pushing himself up from the table and rounding around towards the door.
"Besides! My whole get up will be a suprise!! So stay awake folks because I'm gonna blow ya all away."
As he leaves, Steph and Duke make sounds of anticipation, curiosity eating at all of them.
(They dont know whats gonna hit 'em.)
"I'm betting 50 bucks that he's gonna be a bat."
Alfred shakes his head at the newfound excitement.
—
What an exciting night.
There is still no sight of their newest, despite oracle's teasing, having apparently already been included in the suprise.
"Well well well," a sly, yet teasing voice makes itself into the open. Catwoman, in all her glory, walks up to the group of bats and birds.
"If it isn't the bat, what's with the gloomy face?"
Batman gives her a nod. "Cat."
Her eyes roam the group and she tilts her head. "Everyone seems to be here tonight." She comments.
"We're waiting," the man shares. "Our newest decided to be more secretive about his debut."
Catwoman gives him a smug smirk. "So I have heard," a chuckle. "I've come here to introduce you to someone, truthfully."
"Oh? Who is it?" Nightwing perks up, having finally decided to join in.
"Me."
Some yelp, whip their head around and away from the lady in black, gasps and cooing (particularly from steph) fill the roof and Danny joins them.
He wears black combat boots, they're heavy just from the look, but make no sound as he jumps around. The front of the boots look like cat paws, they're reaching up to his knees.
Then comes the baggy black pants, knees protected by poleyn and his belt acting as a cats tail. The hoodie he is wearing is also black, with fingerless gloves (only the middle finger is covered) and reaching up to his neck.
Instead of a domino mask, he wears a hood with cat ears and a dark face mask. Cass claps, knowing fully well he took inspiration from her own get up.
The whole outfit is detailed with orange spots, some parts brown and others grayish.
"Meet my new mentee, Calico."
Danny, Calico, waves.
"Hey constantine, who's that?" Someone asks and Connie looks down at Danny, blue eyes staring back at him.
"My coworker."
"He's my dad."
"What?"
"What."
—
Who knew John Constantine would gain a ward, one being such a little mischievous bastard with bright eyes and good heart.
He certainly didn't.
Nor did he expect the stabby Robin to get into a heated argument with his ward, gesturing to his form next to Batman and spit venom.
"But‐ Damian! Look at him! I can fix him!" Danny argues back and Robin, so done with this, rips his mask off and—
Oh.
They have the same face.
Connie looks at Batman, nervous what the reveal will change.
("I don't care if you can 'fix' him, danyal! Return to Father, to me!")
Batman stares back.
("Connie is dad shaped! I chose him myself, damian! Leave me and my choice alone!")
The day will only get longer, it seems.
Dpxdc AU: Damian decides that it’s time to go collect his brother from his assignment. Danny is starting to sniff out some non-ghostly bullshit for once.
Damian knew his twin had been exiled from the age of seven, banished to travel and observe how scientists around the world engaged with Lazarus water. The only word that Damian received that his spare was still alive were the letters of lab reports and findings that were sent back to base. As the Heir, he’s pushed to be better lest he himself be exiled or simply executed. Danny becomes a fleeting thought and then once Damian arrived in Gotham, a none existent thought.
They weren’t raised to be friends or even friendly. The were not taught codependency or allotted time to bond. The could have been perfect strangers if not for their appearance and the stories of Danny’s shortcomings becoming Damian’s praise.
It’s only once Tim informs him of an intercepted letter, one sent and saved from years prior, that Damian recalls Danny enough to care. Tim prompts him to share more, especially given the coup recently committed by Deathstroke (Slade) and Talia gone into hiding with her zealots.
At family dinner that night Damian supplies: “I suppose I should be the one to bereave my twin of his assignment. His reports will certainly go unread.”
Chaos in the Batfam ensues- meanwhile across the country- Danny sneezes and finishes writing his yearly report: “No major discoveries aside from public record patents (attached), No assistance required. -Spare”. He doesn’t know why he bothers, he hasn’t received any contact from his mother or grandfather since he was 10ish and certainly hasnt thought about his twin. But, if there’s a chance (even an itty bitty one) that his reports are being read and are holding off his reassignment, he’d rather keep assassins out of Amity Park.
Little does he know that this letter is about to be intercepted by Pru, former assassin and friend of Tim Drake. He hadn’t expected his twin to suddenly arrive and tell him that his job was done. And certainly, seeing a plane filled with an uncomfortable looking ‘family’ that requested he join them and get to know Gotham and his birth father, was not on his bingo list.
Danny does his best to let them down gently- and they seem to be accepting that he’s acclimated to this weird little town and will leave him be- when Danny suddenly has to transform into Phantom in front of them to handle a rocket sent by Skulker.
They are less willing to accept his appeal to be left alone after that… Damian is trying to “bond” with him and all the others are trying to “help” in their own way.
Sam and Tucker howl with laughter at Danny’s suddenly very large family- all while secretly working with the Wayne’s to get Danny the fuck away from the Fentons before the scientists do something they can’t undo.
So after reading the writing attached to this post my brain is going SO hard over this idea. But a line that caught my attention is this one in particular:
"Instead, they saw the interaction for what it was - Danny had grown up a spy, and just like Damian had thrown his all into murder, Danny had thrown his all into spying, until everything he was - his expressions, his emotions, his body language, every aspect of communication down to the last detail - was exactly what he wanted it to be.
Meeting in any other circumstance, Tim would've taken him for just another Clark-type in the making. He was the perfect actor.
How long had he waited here, Tim wondered, molding himself into this for just a scrap of attention from the League? And after a full decade, how much of the real Danny was left?"
and i just? Maybe it's because i'm a sucker for identity crises in general but the urge to expand on that idea itself and go "how can i make this WORSE" is taking over my brain.
Now I know that this is from Tim's pov and Danny's pov contradicts it a lot -- he's become his own person in the ten years he's been gone and he's acting as he should -- but I'm just thinking about a what-if where Danny hadn't been sent to the Fentons when he was six, but when he was ten? nine? eight? However many years it is. But before that, when he'd been with the league he'd actually been sent on assignment after assignment. All focused on spying. So Danny is, as the quote describes, thrown himself into spying.
(this gets long so im sticking it under a 'read more')
I do not have words to express how much I LOVE THIS
Just. All the identity crisis!!!! YES!!!
#starry... blease if you have new idea gib to us ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE more incomprehensible rambles
so i am still currently thinking about Daniel Fenton and Danyal. It's nothing concrete or linear. But, Daniel Fenton is perhaps as close to the truest form of Danyal there is: his wit, his sass, his puns and passion. his love of animals and his wanderlust. (he also does genuinely enjoy rock/punk/alt music). But much of him is till a lie. Enough so that Danny (Dany?) himself is not convinced himself that that is what he genuinely likes.
I like the thought that Danny is a little bit more petty and vicious than in canon, kinda like Damian is, but tones it back for Sam and Tucker's sake. He and Damian both have very extreme personalities. But while Damian's was encouraged, Danny forced himself to hold back because it would interfere with his work as a spy.
And while yes, being in the league sucked, my favorite headcanon is that Danny was really good at knife work and it was one of the few things he genuinely enjoyed while training. he loves collecting knives and learning about them, and its something he's got sequestered so close to his heart that he forgets all about it until he passes by some hunting shop with their knives on display and he stares and stares longingly until he's out of sight of the display. He's stolen Skulker's hunting knives and machetes multiple times and keeps them under his bed. When he has the time he takes them out and practices with them. He wants to incorporate them into "Phantom" but knife-loving is not what Daniel Fenton is. So he keeps it closely guarded to his chest.
And I also think that Sam and Tucker are not privy to Danny's past as an assassin. First it was because they were outsiders to the league and not deserving of the information. He wouldn't jeopardize the secrecy of the league for two children. Then, later on, it was for their own protection.
The league is no joke and Sam and Tucker are untrained teenagers. Even if Danny trained them, they would still be vastly unprepared and underqualified to go toe-to-toe with even the weakest league member -- i.e. Danny himself in all his rustiness. Danny does most of the fighting when it comes to ghosts, so they don't have experience even from that. And even then: fighting the dead is not the same as fighting the living.
Danny was always aware that there was a sliver of a chance that the league would come retrieve him. He would not put the deaths of Sam and Tucker on his conscious just because he thought it was safe to tell them about a centuries old secret. No. The league of shadows would remain what it was; a shadow. And despite what Sam and Tucker believe: Danyal is a fantastic liar.
i think rather than moving in with the Waynes outright permanently, Jack and Maddie instead agree to let the Waynes have him over for the summer. (i like the idea that the Fentons have no idea that Danny is an assassin or a spy, but i have no idea how that would work logically so i'm not addressing it.)
they'll figure out custody agreements after that.
I don't have much to say on the stay in Wayne manor other than Danny's his cold, reserved, and closed-off unusual-usual self. He's wary and distrustful of the Waynes and he's trying to figure out himself and who he is when he's not playing pretend.
The Waynes encourage him to be Danyal. Just Danyal. Not Daniel. Not Danyal Al Ghul. Just Danyal. Just Dany.
Danny doesn't know who that is. He's left bewildered and... well. a little scared. for what he isn't sure.
he also has issues with Damian. lots of unaddressed resentment and fear there. a distance between the spare and the heir that Damian is desperately trying to close and fix. Danny is too afraid of being burned to fully trust it.
but eventually i do think he notices Damian's efforts, and recognizes them as genuine attempts to reach out and connect with him and to fix the past. Danny doesn't understand why and he's baffled by Damian's behavior -- time really does change people, huh -- but he does see it. And, very tentatively, he reaches out as well
(Damian is ecstatic and dizzyingly hopeful)
how does he reach out? well. my immediate thought was letters. Danny's been sending report after report to the league monthly/bi-weekly for the last half-decade at least. Speaking out loud is hard and its even harder when its to someone meant to be your superior. Writing is much easier when he doesn't have to look Damian in the face and fall back on old habits.
So he sits down and writes a letter to Damian. It addresses a lot of things he wants left unsaid. He uses his best league handwriting and writes in arabic like he does in all his reports. he signs it formally with Danyal al Ghul at the bottom in neat calligraphy. He seals it in an envelope and slides it under Damian's door.
He gets a response the next day. A letter too. And suddenly they have a system. a letter per day to each other. and bit by bit danny slowly takes his walls down, brick by brick. it doesn't solve his identity issues in the slightest. he still doesn't know who he is. but its mending his relationship with the only twin he's got.
he gradually begins sitting closer to him during mealtimes. Damian silently glows with pride. Danny still struggles to speak to him informally though. He can't bring himself to speak to Damian without being spoken to first. The letters seem to help, but its not enough.
Danny grows frustrated. There's still so much resentment left over that not even pen and ink can fix, and his tongue turns itself to lead whenever he thinks about bringing it up.
He doesn't want to resent Damian, he realizes one day, halfway through the summer. He doesn't. he wants to be close to him. he wants to be friends. he wants to be brothers.
so he does what any good ghost does when they won't -- or can't -- use their words.
one day during the afternoon, his frustration boils over. he approaches Damian -- marches up to him, really -- with a fixed jaw and knuckles so tight they've turned white. Damian is with some of their brothers, and the room quiets at his approach. Tense. Everyone knows he's angry.
"we need to fight." Danny says through gritted teeth, frustration clogged in his throat like fire waiting to be spit out.
the room stares.
Damian frowns. "What?"
"I resent you." Danny says instead of repeating, and Damian flinches like he's been struck. He looks like he swallowed a rock. Danny won't stand for it. "And it is a problem. I do not want to resent you, so we will fight."
"I do not need to win." Danny clarifies when the room shifts uncomfortably and Damian looks apprehensive. "We just need to fight."
Damian still looks unsure. Its a strange look on someone who Danny used to know as so confident. But he will not back down from this. He rolls back his shoulders and stares his brother down in the eye. "Damian," he says, and Damian's eyes widen like saucers. "please."
Danny is cheating. They both know it. It's the first time Danny has willingly called him by his name. He sees Damian's resolve crumble like sand, and he stands.
"Fine. But there will be rules in place to prevent each other from significant harm."
Danny grins and the room startles simultaneously. It is a wild, delighted thing that shows too much teeth, like a cheshire cat that is much too sharp. It's his first proper smile. "Acceptable."
The rules are as followed: No Maiming No Killing The fight ends when someone yields or if they're too exhausted/injured to get up You may draw blood, but no serious laceratios
Danny is buzzing and thrumming under his skin the entire walk to the gym, his new brothers following him and Damian. He can feel his core pulsating with the urge to fight. It takes much of his willpower not to charge the air with electotricity. The hair standing up on end on his arms is proof enough that he's not succeeding.
They stop by their rooms to change into proper fighting attire, and Danny beats Damian to the gym with a pair of daggers he is twisting around in his hands. They're not allowed to start until Bruce gets there, and he arrives remarkably quick for someone who was supposed to be at WE.
The fight starts after the rules are stated, and the Waynes stand off to the side. Danny zeroes in on his brother, and attacks first. Danny's fast. Faster with his liminality, but Damian keeps up. Danny pours all of his resentment, anger, inferiority, his grief into this fight. He works through each one like he's undoing an intricate knot, and it sweeps up into the air and thickens to the point that even the others in all their varying liminality can sense it.
He lands blows on Damian, and Damian returns it in kind. Until finally Danny's worked through everything he's needed to say, and the fight becomes.. lighter somehow. It tastes like forgiveness. It's become playing.
When the fight finishes, they're both exhausted. They're bruised and battered, with cuts along their faces and arms. It doesn't fix everything. It doesn't fix Danny's identity. It doesn't fix the years of expectation and disappointment and the longing. But it does fix one thing.
Danny yields first, and he gives Damian his widest smile, his breath wheezing. "I needed that."
Can you imagine Lady Gotham reacting to this little ball of angsty shadow? Like, the bats have some control over the shadows in Gotham but Danny here is completely made of shadows. I think she would definitely take and interest in Danny. She might even be able to iron out some of the identity issues.
Because the shadows are protectors as much as they are predators. They aren’t good or bad. They are just, there. They shelter the weak and hide the vengeful. They are a completely neutral entity.
So maybe during the summer, Danny is able to gain some stability in his ghost form. It still doesn’t fix everything. I highly doubt a single summer could fix nearly two decades of conditioning and manipulation. But it still helps. It still gives him something to work off of. Lady Gotham would just absolutely adore her new little shadow child. She might even pop in to actually say hello to the other bats and birds when she goes to meet Danny.
Just this Lady, completely covered in wispy shadows that are woven around her like large swaths of lace. They can’t see her face but can usually make out a pleasant smile on her lips. She never speaks a word to the other bats, only chitters in a strange language that everyone (with the exception of Tim) can some how understand. She towers over them all but none of them feel threatened in the slightest. If anything, she exudes a kind of comfort and safety that no one can put their finger on.
Then there’s Danny. As the summer progresses his form becomes more stable. The shadows solidify, his form becomes slimmer, less like he’s trying to intimidate others and more like he’s just another shadow. Small and slim and lithe; perfect for hiding in nooks and crannies where others won’t be able to find him without fervent effort and looking.
Another Dragon Prompt?
They had all figured they'd seen it all. Great wurms of thorn and vines, built by the land and leaves around them, massive wyverns of wind and storm whose roars were like a thunder crash.
But all of that was nothing when the city found itself dragged into the realm of green, where there was a deadly, horrible calm before everything fled.
The pair of drakes usually getting into things, one of gold and black scales, the other a kaleidoscope of blues and reds screamed, tearing across the land as it was torn asunder. The mothering dragon constantly dropping food on top of the people didn't even bother as it flew alongside the one usually stealing boxes as fast as their tiny wings could move. Even the drake with armor of steel and more aggression than a chihuaha turned kaiju raced away, leaping from building to building before seemingly recalling it too had wings it could use.
More dragons than Amity had ever seen before fled in great flocks, everything a panic, terrified of whatever they were trying to escape. Every shape and size, from the blobs to great wurms like the one who called itself Overgrowth, and they were running.
And then they saw it, first a familiar beast of pink flame and gouging antlers- the Wisconsin Drake, the Fentons had called it- with dozens of wings beating and ectoplasm spilling from a great gouging wound before it crashed into a building with a pained wail.
But it was what followed that truly horrified everyone. A great beast of night, fins flared out like massive wings as it swam through the sky, flames already gathered in its mouth as it stared down at its prey.
Amity had thought they had seen it all.
It did nothing to prepare them for the King's awakening.
the only thing the IDF can do is bomb unarmed civilians from the safety of a screen and do psycho shit like this

Extra doodle under the cut:
first day on the job
People in Ljubljana, Slovenia, have filled Republic Square, which is right across the street from the parliament building (visible in the first picture), with snow mounds representing Palestinians killed by Israel, and yesterday, they started lighting candles. They noted that in order to light a candle for every Palestinian who's lost their life in Gaza in the last months, they would've needed 25 thousand (way more than they could realistically manage).
