If you're Easter Egg hunting today, good luck and if you see any eggs like these, don't get your face too close. 😆
Mine is snuggled up next to me rn, and this is a reminder that poor as I am, the shit I go through, my little buddy feels safe up against me.
Happy New Year/Stranger Things Finale Night!
Happy Stranger Things Day everybody!
Volume 2 of Season 5 comes out later today and my hyperfixation is ready for it. And so must everyone else be. That's what all the celebrating and exchanging of gifts today is all about, right? 😆
This is what happens when I stop trying to keep the hypomania from taking the wheel. I'd rather have this guy driving than the guy who's been in the driver's seat lately anyways. And more fun lights up at this shitty time of year can only be helpful to me. Stranger Things inspired, somewhat obviously.
Not even all that patiently...
As Halloween approaches, I would like to remind you to not use someone else’s disability as a costume.
This includes ⬇️⬇️⬇️
- costumes portraying mentally ill people, eg; psych ward patients, psychotic people, the concepts of eating disorders, etc
- costumes that include mobility devices that you don’t need, eg; dressing up as an old person using a walker, or having a group costume of three blind mice where you all have canes
- costumes that mock real historical disabled people, eg; dressing up as Hellen Keller
- costumes portraying a facial difference that you don’t have, eg; burn survivor, or person with significant facial scarring
Basically, if your costume portrays a disability that you don’t have, or is a caricature of the condition, it’s best to play it safe and not be disrespectful.
This seems like one of those things that doesn't need to be said, yet here we are.
Let's round it up to 60, just to be safe.
This is one of my favourite takes on the wonderful new Superman movie.
Just my big chonky, awesome cat loving her new box. A good reminder for me that it doesn't need to be hard to find things to be happy about.
⬆️This!! ⬆️
We often see what we want to see, and we all have our own inherent bias and pattern recognition. That said, I went in cold turkey to the movie Thunderbolts* when my daughter and I went to see it recently. I didn't watch any trailers, avoided spoilers, etc.
And what I saw was me.
Here's My Short Spoiler-Free Review:
I was not at all expecting the amount of depth the story has
There are some very authentic-feeling portrayals of living with mental illness
It was fucking awesome
And My Slightly Longer And Still Not Very Spoilery Review:
As a person who lives with mental illness, I got to see A LOT of what I feel, have felt, have experienced reflected in a certain character's own experiences. And their journey isn’t just an inclusivity checkmark; it’s the core of the movie. I think a lot of people will see themselves reflected here, and by not explicitly stating this character’s diagnosis, they allow the story to include anyone who lives with mental illness, addictions, trauma.
And all of the thoughtful and nuanced handling of mental health notwithstanding, this is just a great movie all around. You should go see it.
