Megalo phonetics in a nutshell.

I have created Megalo language mainly because I meant to use it in my own Pokémon fanfic “The lifeless land” as the fanmade native tongue spoken by the Ultra Recon Squad and - less specifically - the people from Ultra Megalopolis. Some friends who read the fic showed interest in it, so I’m planning to upload more Megalo related content in the future.

Megalo basics.

Wirxas is actually the first person singular of the verb wirxi, dewirxi meaning “to respect” or “to have high expectations”. It is the most common way to say hello among Megalo people and it is used regardless of social status, age or relationship between those who exchange the greeting.

Welxotag is mostly employed between people who are close when they see each other for the first time after waking up. Since there’s no alternation of night and day on Megalozem (”Land of the Megalo people”), the word tag is used to refer to what we would call a whole 24-hours time span without further distinctions.

Welxosowen, meaning “have a nice rest”, could be described as the Megalo version of “goodnight”. Just like welxotag, it is mostly used by people who are close to each other.

Kixtas is the first person singular of the verb kixti, dekixti meaning “to thank”.

Jasne, meaning “clearly”, “of course”, is the standard polite way to say “You’re welcome” in Megalo. Ne martwe (”Don’t worry”) sounds more casual.

Geske, meaning “kindly”, is the standard word for “please”. It is used with the same rules as in English and forgetting to add it in a sentence that requires it ends up sounding very rude. Xin oras is almost always only employed by people who are very close and conveys a much stronger emotion.

Dewixdam se is the first person plural in the future (perfective) tense of the verb wixdi (se), dewixdi (se) meaning “to see (oneself/each other)”. It is the most common way to say “see you later” or “goodbye”.

Some basics of Megalo noun declension.

In Megalo grammar, the system of declension is made up of 4 cases:

Kàrtrindas (”the agent”), sometimes referred to as perwo staw (”the first case”), is related to the nominative case;

Sprèsnindas (”the specifier”), sometimes referred to as wtoro staw (”the second case”), is related to the genitive case;

Kàrmindas (”the patient”), sometimes referred to as treto staw (”the third case”), is related to the accusative case;

Kwarto staw, “the fourth case”, has no further definition in Megalo nomenclature. It is a mixed case, reuniting several functions that we usually attribute to a whole set of different cases (dative, locative, instrumental, ablative) in languages we are more familiar with.

Megalo nouns in the nominative form end either in consonant or in -a, but there’s no such thing as grammatically “masculine” or “feminine” Megalo nouns - although a significant percentage of female first names with the -a ending has been observed. This does not imply that Megalo language lacks gender as a category; however, gender assignment of nouns is solely determined by biological sex or inanimacy, with noun endings resulting unrelated. The Megalo language possesses masculine, feminine and neuter third person pronouns and they are used according to the corresponding subject being male, female or inanimate.

Megalo nouns are first declensed for number and then for cases, showing an uncommon agglutinative behavior. The plural forms are obtained by adding the -er suffix to the end of the noun and case markers to the -er suffix. The fleeting “e” is a common phenomenon in Megalo and shows up normally during declension of nouns in their plural form.
