I love this book: Queer and Trans Artists of Color: Stories of Some of Our Lives - interviews by Nia King
"Mixed-race queer art activist Nia King left a full-time job in an effort to center her life around making art. Grappling with questions of purpose, survival, and compromise, she started a podcast called We Want the Airwaves in order to pick the brains of fellow queer and trans artists of color about their work, their lives, and “making it” - both in terms of success and in terms of survival.
In this collection of interviews, Nia discusses fat burlesque with Magnoliah Black, queer fashion with Kiam Marcelo Junio, interning at Playboy with Janet Mock, dating gay Latino Republicans with Julio Salgado, intellectual hazing with Kortney Ryan Ziegler, gay gentrification with Van Binfa, getting a book deal with Virgie Tovar, the politics of black drag with Micia Mosely, evading deportation with Yosimar Reyes, weird science with Ryka Aoki, gay public sex in Africa with Nick Mwaluko, thin privilege with Fabian Romero, the tyranny of “self-care” with Lovemme Corazón, “selling out” with Miss Persia and Daddie$ Pla$tik, the self-employed art activist hustle with Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarsinha, and much, much more. Welcome to the future of QPOC art activism.” - photo + words via http://www.artactivistnia.com

Tsingy de Bemaraha National pPark…
a unesco world heritage site in western madagascar, is home to lemurs who, with thick pads on their hands and feet, navigate this six hundred square kilometer labyrinth of three hundred foot tall razor sharp limestone pillars.
photographer stephen alvarez remarked, “it’s an unbelievable experience to watch them [as] they jump like acrobats from the sharp pinnacles” — a feat made more remarkable given the vast chasm bellow.
in the malagasy language, tsingy means “where one cannot walk barefoot,” and alvarez noted that given the difficulty of the terrain, it takes an entire day to walk half a mile.lemurs, like ninety percent of the species in madagascar, are endemic to the island, and thanks to the isolation of this near impenetrable refuge have evolved into tsingy’s eleven distinct species, including the decken’s sifaka seen here.

India’s new comic ‘super hero’: Priya, the rape survivor
"A new comic book with a female rape survivor as its "super hero" has been launched to focus attention on the problem of sexual violence in India. Priya’s Shakti, inspired by Hindu mythological tales, tells the story of Priya, a young woman and gang-rape survivor, and Goddess Parvati as they fight against gender crimes in India.
People anywhere in the world can download a free digital copy of the comic and printed copies in Hindi and English will be available at the Comic Con Mumbai later in December, Mr Devineni says. “Our target audiences are children starting from 10-12 years to young adults. It’s a very critical age in their lives and it’s an attempt to start a conversation with them.”

This is kind of amazing and she looks like a total badass.
If you don’t want to ride the Bug Carousel at the Bronx Zoo, there’s no hope for you as a person.
I want to go to there.

"I will not be not seduced into the fear that my partner’s attraction for other women somehow reflects a lack in my partnership."

I theoretically love this kinda mentality, but in actuality I'm mostly super insecure. I have never had a male partner who affirmed everything about me/whose type I actually was - I wish my reaction to this could be "so what, tough shit", but I'm human - so achieving this kinda zen attitude is pretty much impossble. That said, at least I recognize that it is destructive, ridiculous, and worth trying to dismantle.
How long have you gone without shaving your body hair?
If you're "anonymous" I'll just assume you're a creepy dude & ignore your question. Who the hell cares?
insecurity fest
Just now · Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by the way the Internet makes it so much harder to forget people who have rejected me and bruised my ego at various points in my life. I can delete them all from FB or never add them in the first place, but everyone knows everyone and my worlds all feel so insular that it makes me want to run off to London. Last night I realized that two people from my past (one the very very recent past) were FB friends, and I seriously imagined them sitting around talking about what a bad lay they thought I was and how neurotic I am. This obviously betrays a lot of delusional egocentrism on my part, because they probably have a million things they'd rather talk about, but there you go. Nightmares most every night, waking anxiety every day, my boyfriend pulling away because I want to process my inability to reconcile his attractions and he wants none of it. I probably need to see a therapist, but can't afford the co-pay, and I'm pretty sure they couldn't help me. I've reached the point where I'm flipping through goddamned Katie Byron books at B & N and hoping some of her formulaic schlock, or someone's, will be that elusive lifeline to lift me out of my funk.

so adorable, & not to get all morbid on you but be careful everyone - my friend's Siamese cat died this way.

Purple reign: mango trees at a farm in the state of Pernambuco, in north-east Brazil. The farm harvests mango honey from the bees that pollinate the blossom!
guessing these aren't ripe yet but doesn't a purple mango look like the tastiest thing on earth? I'm imaginging a plum/mango hybrid taste & drooling a bit.

I wanna live in that room in the second one but I also know it would make me really depressed. The really excellent selfies would not be worth it.
Fox Theatre, Atlanta, Georgia Photos by Wendy Darling
The magnificent interior of the Fox Theatre. Originally designed by the regional Shriners organization to be a massive headquarters, with theater, meeting rooms, etc., after they basically bankrupted themselves having it building, William Fox stepped in and made a deal to run it as a movie palace, while allowing the Shriners to use the meeting rooms, etc., and main auditorium as needed.
A few notes on these photos: The style of the 4,000 seat theater (with huge orchestra level and even bigger balcony) is Moorish / North African fantasy. It’s designed to give the feeling you’re in the courtyard of an exotic castle, with ramparts all around, an open sky (with twinkling stars and clouds that move), a tent roof hanging over one side, etc. Meanwhile the two large boxes/balconies on each side of the stage aren’t functional for people but are designed to screen the pipes of the massive (3000+ pipe) theater organ, plus other organ gear likes drums, xylophone, thunder machine, etc. (used for silent movie sound effects).
Atlanta just gained about 1005 cool points in my mind.
