Holy shit you guys I just learned there are three species of bees in the genus Trigona that are the only bees out of 20,000 species worldwide that don’t feed on nectar and pollen but on DEAD ANIMALS and I am freaking out right now this is so fucking cool!!! They’re called vulture bees. It kinda sounds like they make this rotting flesh honey for their babies and it’s so so gross and my mind is blown and I am a giant nerd.

Coming back to tumblr after lots of months to say GOOD NEWS MY DUDE these Trigona spp. live in Central and South America, not North America! Also I was completely incorrect in my initial post. Their honey is not made from rotting flesh, it’s just from the sugar they collect.

But also, let’s be real, still don’t come to North America, everything is terrible lololololol
