You sighed for…actually, you don’t know how many times you’ve sighed since you’ve been doing it the whole day. Still, you sighed as you pulled your pastel blue apron over your head and mentally prepared yourself for your four hour shit at the ice cream parlor.
It wasn’t so bad working there it just that, college’s been insanely stressful these past couple of weeks with all the papers and exams your professors had been assigning. The only bright thing is that you didn’t have to work in a group project. Last semester, you had to work with five other people who barely showed up to the meetings with actual help and you were so frustrated that before the project was due in two days, you snapped at them and called them all a bunch of lazy idiots. Luckily, your professor was on your side and only gave you a “stern talking to”.
“Hey.” Donghyuk greeted you when you stepped out of the changing rooms with his cheerful voice and never ending smile. Sometimes, you envied your coworker who always looked so optimistic and energetic every single day.
“Hi.” You greeted back in a monotone voice.
This made Donghyuk frown a little bit as he took in your whole appearance, which made you self conscious as you curled a lock of hair behind your ear. You didn’t feel anything towards him but he is cute and you didn’t want him to look at you like that on a day where you didn’t bother to dress up.
“You look like you could use a hug.” Donghyuk said it in a statement and not a question.
Before you could say anything, you were quickly engulfed in Donghyu’s warm embrace. You tried to resist a bit but the way he soothingly rubbed your back made you relax and return his embrace.
You tried to look around, hoping that the customers weren’t bothered by the public display of affection but no one seemed to even notice what was happening, something you were grateful for.
“What’s wrong?” Muttered Donghyuk as he swayed your bodies, his chin resting on your head.
“School sucks.” That made Donghyuk chuckle and for you to smile.
“Ain’t that the truth.” He said.
“I just keep thinking if I’ll ever get a job. I’m graduating this semester but my gpa is so embarrassing that I always cry at night wondering who would hire me when there so many better than me.” You muttered.
“Hey,” Donghyuk pulled away from you and held your face between his big hands, “Don’t be so hard on yourself. I’m sure you’ll get a job one day. You just need to believe in yourself.”
You’ve heard these words thousands of times before but when Donghyuk said it, it actually made you feel better.
Donghyuk’s smile broke into a huge grin as he ruffled your hair.
Someone clearing their throat made you break apart and you both chuckled at the old lady giving you a knowing smile before ordering her usual.
