@randi-pandi
i know this is an extremely basic baby’s first feminism observation but it does genuinely drive me crazy how for the most part stories about men are presumed to be universal and stories about women are About Women
you wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me
We lived through the wild west of fanfiction!
'Here, fit your description/summary in this extremely limited text field, plus bonus info, should you have the room. Hope you're well-versed in all the fun classification abbreviations!'
This is basically how you should approach structuring a story btw.
I want to know what you’re hiding.
I am too damn old to be going down a tumblr rabbit hole at 1 AM, but fucking hell, here we are!! I forgot how much I loved these two in that story.
Genuinely, it takes a special kind of something, to make me, in the middle of a Dramione fic, read about a secondary pairing and say 'no, no, wait, no, go back to them. I want more of them,'. But that memory/mind invasion scene did exactly that--Adrian's reaction to Neville about to say 'fuck', is THEE FUCKING CUTEST THING, and it's burned into my brain.
me, struggling to write: hmm, this part is a little difficult. maybe i should check my planning document, which i created as a helpful tool for my writing process!
the planning document:
does anyone know wtf word-stream.com is or where to send them a takedown request? i just found a bunch of fics, including my own, hosted on this AI slop site—apparently offering what I assume are AI-generated audiobook versions & (equally AI-generated) ratings and reviews. i can’t take a closer look without signing up, which, no thank you, but it looks like they’re hosting the full fics and are peddling a paid subscription for the trouble of hosting them. can someone more knowledgeable than me explain what our options are in this situation?
First of all, I'm really sorry to all the authors that have had their works stolen and hosted on this site, this really sucks.
If you try to click on any of the sites, you get a link to the App Store app, which is called "WordStream - Audiobooks".
Who is Ofek Weitzman? Apparently he's also known as Cliff Weitzman, the CEO of Speechify, an AI Voice generator app famous for its partnership with Snoop.
Also, Cliff Weitzman is named as the copyright holder at the bottom:
If you search for Ofek/Cliff Weitzman, you find his name in the terms and conditions for Speechify.
Strange that someone with a legitimate company with a partnership with Brandon Sanderson would put their name behind a shady company stealing works from fanfic writers, but it may be worth reaching out to him on X.
Best case scenario is that someone has stolen the name for an app, but in that case, it would be good for him to know.
Otherwise, it would be good to start a dialogue about how authors can get their works taken down from this site!
It really does seem like this is the right guy to contact, based on the Youtube channel for WordStream, which features Cliff Weitzman!
Given his desire to work with authors, I hope he's responsive to fanfic writers and can get everyone's works taken down.
Thank you @makicarn & @fazedlight (see her reblog in the tags) for finding more information!! According to the listings for the app it's only been live since October, which explains why we haven't heard much about it yet. The website also purports to provide access to AI-voiced classic novels like (at a glance) Pride and Prejudice, Moby Dick and Sherlock Holmes, all of which are all in the public domain, which leads me to think the creator of the website wrongfully assumes copyright doesn't pertain to fan fiction.
Per @echoekhi 's advice (who's done invaluable work for fandom with their project Copy-Knight) I have contacted OTW Legal, hoping they can help. Because word-stream doesn't list a formal policy regarding copyright violations, and Weitzman doesn't appear to publically own up to his connection to the website anywhere, (correction: I just watched the YouTube shorts Maki linked to and his face is right there along with the boast that we can access all of these free works for just one teensy payment, isn’t that just SO GENEROUS OF HIM) I agree with them that it's inadvisable to file a DMCA takedown at this point. I wouldn't trust it 1. with my personal information and 2. for it to actually go anywhere. That being said it's definitely something to keep an eye on and obviously anyone whose work is listed there should do their own research and decide for themselves which steps they want to take.
Sorry to bring attention to such a crummy thing right before the holidays!!

Literally, one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. The art style. The colours. The sweaters. The reindeer ears/horns! Perfection.
It's day 22, of whatever November Writing Challenge you're participating in. Do you know where your word count is?
Are you abysmally behind, like me?
Just keep writing, just keep writing. Just keep writing, writing. What do we do? We write. Write.

“So mermaids and sirens are two different species?” “Just so. My people, what you call mermaids or merfolk, share a common ancestor to you humans, making us distant cousins. What you call sirens, however, are fish that evolved to look and sound like humans to attract their favorite prey.”

Every year, without fail, during the last hour of October, despite my profound love for the spooky, my fingers start to itch for that clock to finally read 12:00 AM.
I feel like a coach rubbing the shoulders of my boxer, hyping them up for their match.

make an awful, ill-conceived, sponsored post about "responsible"/"ethical" uses of ai in writing
immediately get ratio'd in a way i've never seen on tumblr with a small swarm of chastising-to-negative replies and no reblogs
start deleting replies
reply to their own post being like 'agree to disagree!!!' while saying that ai can TOTALLY be ethical because spellcheck exists!! (???) while in NO WAY responding to the criticisms of ai for its environmental impact OR the building of databases on material without author consent, ie, stolen material, OR the money laundering rampant in the industry
when called out on deleting replies, literally messaged me people who called them out to say "We don't have a problem with folks disagreeing with AI. It's the tone of the discourse." So. overtly stated tone policing.
get even MORE replies saying this is a Bad Look, and some reblogs now that people's replies are being deleted
DISABLE REBLOGS when people aren't saying what nano would prefer they say
im juust in literal awe of this fucking mess.
This...can't be real life...
(Also, are we really comparing spellcheck to generative writing? Like, really?...)
"This fic was ai generated—" Cool, so lemme block you real quick
i immediately thought of this
