Dean, your face. DEAN YOUR FACE. That little narrowing of the eyes, that brief exhale in the fourth GIF gives it all away — Dean doesn’t blame Cas for what happened to Sam. He never did.

He knew the wall in Sam’s mind was too good to be true. He knew it would’ve come down eventually — that it had already started to come down, back in Season 6, before Cas did anything. And he knows that Cas didn’t inflict Hell on Sam in the first place. Sam did it to himself; Sam chose to throw himself in the Pit, to sacrifice himself and all that came with it. Even Dean knows that. (Lord knows, if Dean can find a way to blame himself for something he’ll do it, but he doesn’t blame himself for Sam’s Hell!trauma and he doesn’t blame anyone else for it either.) So listening to Cas say, “it’s all my fault”, blaming himself for others’ choices, for things that were out of his control, it’s gotta be like looking into a mirror for Dean, at the man he was not too long ago.

Dean was never angry at Cas for breaking Sam’s wall. For betraying him, yes, and working with Crowley, the right-hand man of the demon who sent him to hell and the one who forced Dean and his entire remaining family into indentured servitude. For lying to Dean, yes. For shutting him out of the civil war, like he needed protecting, and refusing to let Dean help. But never for breaking the wall. That’s not what Season 7 is about.
