Mirror

I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions. Whatever I see I swallow immediately Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike. I am not cruel, only truthful- The eye of the little god, four cornered. Most of the time I meditate on the opposite wall.  It is pink, with speckles. I have looked at it so long I think it is a part of my heart. But it flickers. Faces and darkness separate us over and over. Now I am a lake. A woman bends over me, Searching my reaches for what she really is. Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon. I see her back, and reflect it faithfully. She rewards me with tears and an agitation of hands. I am important to her. She comes and goes. Each morning it is her face that replaces the darkness. In me she has drowned a young girl, and in me an old woman Rises toward her day after day, like a terrible fish.

Waldkindergarten - aka Forest Kindergartens or Forest Nursery Schools

I did not actually realize that these existed until I moved to Germany and there was one on my road! The one in Heidelberg had a small administration building, and apart from tiny cabins, only to be used during bad weather the kids were outside all day long

I think they are a wonderful idea, although my German tandem partner wasn't of the same opinion :P

The wonderful work being done by The Hawn Foundation

through the Mind Up program.

The Hawn Foundation was established, by Goldie Hawn, together with a team of educators, neuroscientists, positive psychologists and experts in mindful awareness training, thus creating the evidence-based MindUP™ as a social and emotional literacy curriculum and training program. 

The program is currently being run in 7 different countries around the world, to much success.

My wish is that, one day mindfulness will be practised in all schools, especially in the UK, where, according to a UNICEF survey, UK children ranked the lowest in well-being and happiness, out of 21 developed countries.

Although a similar UNICEF survey from 2013 has shown the UK to have risen to 16th place, out of a total of 29 developed countries, behavioural problems among British kids seem to be at an all-time high. 

Mindfulness education and practice won't solve all the problems, but it sure as hell would help.
