At the Ridgewood Academy, training with her peers to be spies, assassins, and soldiers, Alice Clément had been the golden girl.  The best of the best in her field, everyone aimed to live up to her impossible standard.  At least until a dramatic fall from grace turned her into the school pariah, only ever talking to her twin sister.  As shocking as her disgrace had been, it was even more shocking when, five years later, she found herself reunited with her former best friend, Lukas Klein.  She had thought that things were starting to improve, right up until the recently reunited friends are assigned to a top secret mission, one that seems destined for tragedy.

Kaia Alpin had always known that she was different.  She could see things that no one else could see; faint lights in the distance, small figures which disappeared if she looked too closely, and even the occasional blood soaked figure out of the corner of her eye.  She’d long since learned to keep them to herself, not that anyone would believe her anyways.  They were figments of her imagination, her parents always told her, the price of reading too much.  But when she stumbles into a circle of decay in the forest behind her house, Kaia learns that everything she thought she knew was a lie; that there are other worlds out there; and that she’s apparently the key to ending a centuries-long war.

!!!!  Let’s talk about Ohana!!!

Ohana is a novel that I started when I was 13, and am currently in the process of rewriting!  It centres around four teenagers (~17) - originally six fourteen year olds - who go to a boarding school that trains spies, soldiers, and assassins.  I’ve never really posted about it here because I’m not sure if people would be interested in my original fiction ocs but I love this story and if there is interest then I’d be hyped to talk about it more often!

The main character is Alice Clément, who is a sort of fille fatale kind of spy and the school manipulates her into a lot of very sketchy situations by threatening to use her twin sister (Blair Clément) instead.  Over the years, Alice has withdrawn a lot - she’s pulled away from her sister, her ex best friend and former partner (Lukas), and pretty much everyone else in her life.  The most constant relationship in her life is with a boy named Roger, who has been her rival and sworn enemy since they were twelve.  

When the story starts, the twins, Lukas, and Roger (who happen to be best friends and roommates) find out that they’re being pushed together, as requested by alumni and CIA director “Sir” (name TBD) to train as an elite task force, and will now be pretty much isolated within their group.   Alice and Blair have never been more distant, Alice and Roger can barely breathe the same air without snapping at each other, and Alice and Lukas can no longer make eye contact - meanwhile, Lukas and Roger are also being very shifty and trying to keep space between themselves.

Alice is the most distressed by this news, and everyone is surprised to find that Roger is the one to calm her down and is encouraging her to “tell her, Al, she won’t hate you”.  Alice exchanges terrified looks with Lukas before taking a deep breath and beginning to speak.  This is when the first chapter ends.
