Look at what I've Found

It's amazing how things other people would throw away without a spare thought can hold a memory for someone else. This blog is about the things I come across and the memories they invoke. A lot of it is just junk though.

Most definitely a sign of the times.

This old sign sits on an empty field somewhere in Hampshire and has done for many years. A little further along a modern-day Hampshire County Council sign does the same job but with nowhere near as much class if you ask me (and excuse the pun).

Remember when everyone was offering internet access?

Back in the days of dial-up internet access, when connecting to the world-wide super highway came with its own theme tune (stolen from the fax machine) it seemed like everyone was offering some sort of internet access CD. Even Banks like Natwest, presumably the service would sometimes just not work much as their online banking system does (or doesn't) today. Never the less, how many people really connected through their bank/supermarket/milkman? Most people got online with AOL (cue memory of Joanna Lumley's voice shouting "Welcome to AOL") - most people stuck with AOL because it was seemingly impossible to remove it from the computer once it was on there.

Another item I have that will mean sod all to most people but hey-ho. An advertising campaign for an electric toothbrush that captured my imagination as a child and has stuck with me ever since (literally as I cut him out of a magazine and stuck him on my wardrobe), he's still there, a serious case of lock-jaw.

Technology and junkfood go hand in hand.

Remember the days when you used to cut tokens out of packets and send off for things in the post? To go with this funky Wotsits mousepad I had a KitKat mouse - which I will try and dig out if I still own it. I also had a Coca-Cola branded mobile phone at one point. I now have a craving for a pack of cheesy Wotsits.

This old scrapbook looks like a good place to start.

Colour Play was brand Woolworths used for some of their kids stationary products back when I was a kid. The idea behind this tumblog is to post things I find that stir some sort of memory or emotion. Ok an old (and empty) scrapbook doesn’t evoke many memories but this tumblog is like a scrapbook and I miss Woolies, it seemed like the right place to start.
