wait does eurydice even die in hadestown though? like actually? wasn't she just tempted by the illustrious prosperity it offered during a depression-esque time?
The lyrics were kind of vague about it, but like it implied she was dead
stuff like hades being the "underworld", the lyrics "you see, eurydice was dead, dead to the world anyway", and accepting hades' offer to come down to hadestown
plus at the end of songbird, you here the hiss and rattle of a rattlesnake, which I think references how the original eurydice in the myths died, which is by snake bite
Thank you! I've been looking everywhere for someone to explain this like I can understand metaphors and such but I just never quite understood if she like actually died or not in hadestown
