I usually ignore the existence of Boruto but why is Naruto so normal about Hinata. Remember how he acted after making his first friend? That man is a possessive, love starved freak. I expected some level of insanity about his first girlfriend but their whole dynamic is:

Being a sasunaru fan is rough because our fanfics are so limited. In the 00s sn was the standard but the fics heavily relied on seme/uke dynamics and were really misogynistic towards female characters. Thankfully Sakura bashing calmed down but now we have this whole omega/alpha pandemic that’s basically the same but worse because it reaffirms heteronormative standards and stereotypes. I just want to read something close to the source material without being ooc or f3tish content

I'm not educated enough for a full analysis, but Naruto's and Sasuke's roles as traditionalist and revolutionist make perfect sense from a class perspective.

As much as I like to criticize Naruto's unfulfilling journey from oppressed to oppressor, his goal of becoming Hokage is realistic for his character. Financial neglect, emotional abuse, no support system, no resources to regulate his nervous system. This poor boy was constantly in survival mode, which explains his confrontational attitude. The academy was the only institution that acknowledged him and his entire world validated loyalty to the village. Why would an abused child turn against this? Also low socioeconomic status shapes self-worth. For Naruto, the only escape is becoming the most visible symbol of that system's power. It reminds me of how poor boys today want lamborghinis and designer clothes, not socialism or healthcare. They don’t benefit from materialistic items, they just need something to prove to others and themselves.

Sasuke, on the other hand, grew up in a prestigious clan. With high responsibility, but also personal resources like stable relationships, and a foundation. His journey is more complex, and to me, more interesting. Betrayal shattered his worldview and identity. Sasuke might have goals and a strong sense of justice, but I don't think he truly knows who he is anymore. This proves his introduction:

My name is Sasuke Uchiha. I hate a lot of things, and I don't particularly like anything. What I have is not a dream, because / will make it a reality. I'm going to restore my clan and kill a certain someone

After the genocide, conforming to social norms became meaningless but he still carried the resources of his upbringing. I'd argue it takes a certain privilege to even have the mental capacity to want systemic change. Sasuke can’t find a meaning for his own existence beyond a goal that is bigger than himself. The sacrifice of his family must have a meaning, if the system remains unchanged they died for nothing.

To sum it up: Naruto has no self-worth and Sasuke is lacking a sense of self and in the end, they switch roles. Naruto attains high status and political power, like the Uchiha once held. Sasuke becomes a marked terrorist, an outcast people avoid and fear and both knew only dying together could defy their miserable fate.

I hate hate hate when people argue who’s the “girl” in the relationship. This is so homophobic, gay men don’t need heteronormative standards to be perceived in. I personally prefer Sasunaru over N4rusasu but still dislike when Naruto is portrayed as weak, submissive or overly feminine. If you need one gay character to perform female gender stereotypes read straight fiction

hear me out naruto is a story told from the perspective of the heroine/ love interest. sasuke is the protagonist. both were abused, and victimised but naruto remains loyal to the village that betrayed him while sasuke understood he was wronged, he understood the system, and was aiming for a revolution. his downfall was his love for naruto, he knew he couldn’t change the world with naruto in it, “this is my loss” at their final fight was not only referring to their match, but his acceptance of losing his values and morals. embracing naruto meant losing himself and that was the true tragedy of the manga
