I think an underrated iconic Ramna thing is him being like "I refuse to wear a shirt around the house just because I have boobs now, and if it makes you uncomfortable that's a you problem". Inspirational, honestly.
Totally agree!
My first hot take - The Kuno siblings are the Ranma 1/2 FANS! ok ok, so here me out...
When I first watched Ranma ½ 20 years ago, I kept my anime fandom under wraps, sharing it only with a few fellow otakus. In Japan, however, anime culture was already thriving with fan groups, events, and merchandise—elements that have since become global. Considering that, on this rewatch, I can't help but see Tatewaki and Kodachi Kuno as embodiments of the unabashed anime superfan.
Both siblings are unapologetically vocal about their affections, declaring their love and desires openly. They collect photos and memorabilia of their beloveds, adorning their rooms with these treasures. Their refusal to accept Ranma's as he is, instead crafting idealized versions of him, mirrors how some fans perceive characters through their own lenses. Tatewaki's simultaneous adoration for both Akane and the female Ranma reflects the way fans can cherish vastly different anime characters as their "one true love."
It's amusing to think that Rumiko Takahashi might be giving readers the "green light" to obsess over Ranma, in any form. She portrays how fans might envision Ranma: as a shoujo-style prince for Kodachi, and a cute demure maiden for Kuno. In reality, Ranma is neither of these archetypes.
While I appreciate both Kuno siblings in the manga, they truly shine in the anime adaptations, thanks to the iconic performances of their voice actors! What are your thoughts? Do you agree or disagree? Who's your favorite: Tatewaki Kuno or Kodachi Kuno?
