a prefece to the segment:
my opinion on,, is a segment (like a series, in a way), in which i share my opinion on something or someone. it’s that fucking simple, honestly. however, i am going to be picking random names of things/people that i like from a spinner. the spinner i have on my bloody anicent and possibly water damaged ipod, will only let me eight at a time, so once i have done a post on one of those people, i will remove them from the spinner. once i have done a post on everyone, i will put a batch of new people/things on the spinner.
specific warnings: youtube mysteries and just all round weirdness.
so the youtube channel “thatpoppy” has become somewhat of a mystery, posting just purely bizarre and weird videos onto the interent, and not only does she post youtube videos, she posts music and is signed to a label. im not going to go through her videos, analysing everything, because we’d be here all day and there’s just so much to fucking analyse. however, i will try to round things up for you, so that things seem slighty easier to digest. if you would like to delve deeper into this mystery, then i would highly encourage you to do so.
so as a bit of a backstory, a channel called ‘titanic sinclair’ started uplaoding videos with a girl, who went by the name of ‘mars argo’ (which, by the way, are not their real names), making fun of internet, celebrity culture and our need to constantly be on social media. they made many videos mocking modern culture, whch then turned into a series on one of their youtube channels. additionally, mars started to make music, as their videos would get flagged for copyright when using it in the background, due to using other people’s music; so they had to make their own. after listening to their music, i can deduce that mars was this pop star who wanted to be famous, thinking that fame and money would make her happy. however, mars realised that this had the complete opposite impact on her, so she wanted to run away from her celebrity life and what she had created. which, may i add, she could do because she was not signed a label. then, mars argo and titanic sinclair broke up, so they stopped creating content, which lead to titanic sinclair to create “that poppy”.

that poppy uploads strange and just plain odd videos of her doing fairly mundane things, but i think that there is so much more than these strange videos uploaded just for being … well, strange. for example, in her lowlife music video, she’s put in this scenario where she is making a video, then comes across the devil eating a bananna (which may possibly represent her being angered at what these producers portrayed as old, rich white men) for making her make the video; something she does not want to do. then walking off set, then walks outside to see many screaming fans, and simply wiped a red paintbrush across slopily in one go. after that she goes back to the studio, throws their papers around, and then pushes thm away, rejecting their ideas as how she has to present herself to the media/world. the symbolism or moral of this video may suggest or infer that pop stars and pretty much anyone in the public eye are controlled very tightly by their staff/management team to appear a certain way, and not to portray themselves for who they really are. i think that she seems very spaced out, due to what the industry, social media has had an effect on her. furthermore, on the flip side, titanic sinclair creates content mocking what goes on behind the camera.
again, i dont think that i have covered everything on thatpoppy, so maybe i will make a part two or possibly edit this post, but i strongly encourage you to check out their channels, videos, music and do some digging for yourself. see you soon dudes and peace out!
