My (at this point TMNT crew-approved??? 😭 what??) jackets are finally done 🙏🏻🥹
I've been kind of going through it lately and being able to focus on designing and making these has been keeping me sane 🤧 Here are some facts on each of these:
💙 Leo - soft leather sleeves with lace flowers (carnations) and an embroidered Hamato hanko. The carnations (which stand for devotion) grow over the family hanko like a roof to symbolise him growing into his role as a protector, but it also stands for his self-sacrificial tendencies.
💜 Donnie - subtle hexagon pattern on all white parts and holographic purple circuitry across the back. Besides the obvious - Donatello does machines, hence the circuitry - it's also a visual reference to one of his battle shells. I wish photos would properly show how cool the holographic effect is, it makes this jacket one of my favourite things I've ever made.
❤️ Raph - soft leather sleeves (same kind as Leo) with glittery roses and an equally glittery sai, as well as spikey rivets and a leather patch. I wanted Leo and Raph to be similar in the flower theme, but where Leo's is a growing vine, Raph's flowers are more of a burst. Red roses came to mind not only because they are spikey and red, but also because Raph, while the biggest and strongest of the four (hence the inclusion of his signature weapon), also has the most traditionally feminine traits and likes soft things and glitter. I love that contrast and really wanted to drive it home in this design!!
🧡 Mikey - black satin sleeves with velvety flock foil details in neon colours. This one was the most fun to come up with. Mikey is the artist of the family and since I love him putting stickers on his shell in the show, I really wanted to include his stickers and just go all out with colours! I also added a sneaky pizza/Hamato crest on the back.
They also each have my signature and a little doodle on the lining :3c
