For Simons project we had to do a Penguin book cover for one of two books : “The outsiders” and “What a carve up”. I started to do different designs for both of them so I can decide on which one I want to do. In the end i narrowed them down to two for “What a carve up” and one for “The outsiders” but after finishing them all none looked like a winning design.
After a while I still didn’t know whats wrong with them or how can i fix the problem, but one day in London helped me to make my mind up. i was in front of parliament when i realised that the best symbol for english politics is Big Ben itself.
I started to work on a new design and it looked like this is going to be the one but something was still missing. Later i realised that i have to give the book cover the age it needed so that it can portray the story of the novel better and more accurate as well as to make the cover more interesting and daring.
From my work on "The outsiders” I took the overly used symbol of the knife and use it to show the other side of politics and their harmful way to show the double faced game, there is always something more to whats on the outside all you have to do is dig deep but not too much
as well as the story of murder and deceive in the book too.Ive tried to give a troublesome feeling but with a dash of comedy and irony.
I didn’t like the book cover and the illustration on a bold colour so i found a imaged that resembled a scratched wood so i can give a stronger effect to the cover.
I ended up doing this design which I like and am proud off.
