You could never tell
1 in 4 college women will be raped or sexually assaulted in their lifetime. Last year, I became apart of that statistic. I was at a party, at home, with my friends. I knew everyone at the party and was close to every single one of them. My boyfriend at the time went home because of his curfew, but I was staying over because yes, I was drinking. My one friend was getting sick in the bathroom so I went to check on him. He pulled me inside the bathroom and with one hand holding the door shut, he used the other one to pull my skirt down and then his pants and boxers. I was screaming and trying to get out when finally another one of my friends came barging in and smacked the kid in the face. He did not rape me, but it was as close as you could get to it. I have never been more confused and scared in my life because it was a friend and I never would have suspected that someone I knew would try to do that to me. I also became apart of the percetage of women who do not report their assault. Since it was someone I knew, I tried to brush it off and move on with my life, which took over a year to do. I am glad to say that I have overcome that obstacle in my life and have become a better person because of it. It has also made it apparent to me that you could become a victim of sexual assault or rape in the blink of an eye and potentially by someone you know.
