i think the key difference between george lucas’s star wars and disney’s star wars is that lucas is a man with an ideology. someone with a point of view, and all that entails. which comes with ideas of revolution, anti-imperialism, challenging the status quo, cultural appropriation and racist stereotypes. complex and contradictory ideas because that’s how artists are: complex and complicated people. disney is not. disney is a corporation. a corporation can’t have ideology, because ideology defeats the purpose of profit. and when the only thing you do is to turn on the movie manufacturing machine before you sit down and plan what ideas are you trying to convey to the audience, then your results are going to be washed out corporate garbage. and because when you’re a giant corporation who only cares about selling to the widest audience possible, you can’t take sides. you can’t decide on an idea. because you want to sell your product to people who are on the entire political spectrum. which results in movies without ideology, without purpose, without soul.
I have been looking for this post for years after I came across it and it’s finally here and I need to reblog this because it is absolutely and entirely accurate.
Reading Star Wars fics during the Trump presidency sure is an experience. Still thinking to myself “wow all those senators that kept letting Palatine amass power were fucking morons who never cared for democracy a day in their lives” but like. No longer as a critique on the original trilogy’s writing.
The implication that Jizz is just a local name on Tatooine is really funny though because I can imagine Luke huddled around a radio with a bunch of other rebels, hearing a song he likes, and going "oh turn it up I love jizz!" And all the other rebels just turning and staring at him.
So I went to the comic book store the other day and bought an issue with Admiral Ackbar on the cover because he's one of my favorite Star Wars characters (I have a problem where I really like side characters that it's nigh impossible to find stories for). Naturally I was a little excited and didn't give the cover art much thought, just that it was my favorite fishy space guy.
I read the issue, he's only in the first half, but he does play a crucial role. I have about a month to figure out if I'm going to pick up the next issue. These type of "fill in the blank" storylines with Star Wars don't always hold my interest because we already know how they're going to end. It's like Rogue One, very much about the journey because the ending is already locked in place.
Wait a second, is Admiral Ackbar doing the "soyjack pointing" meme? FML
Why are there alt-right memes on the cover of comic books?
The origin of the soyjack pointing meme is this photo:
Which was then redrawn into a soyjack, which is a variant of the wojack, a poorly drawn meme style that originated on 4chan:
So the cover artist, Ryan Brown, took this alt-right soyjack pointing meme, flipped it, didn't use the guy in the foreground, and drew Admiral Ackbar to resemble the guy pointing. That's probably his plausible deniability. It's disappointing in the very least, and a dogwhistle at worst. Mostly I'm frustrated with myself for not recognizing it while I was still in the comic store so I didn't buy it.
Here's an additional image of the cover art flipped to match the meme:
Well now it looks really obvious. Like some sort of alt-right Star Wars themed play on "It's a trap!" and I just walked right in. And fancy that... since I found the original art from Ryan Brown instead of cropping the comic cover I'm realizing that it wasn't just image flipped. It was re-drawn so Admiral Ackbar's rank would be on the proper side to obfuscate the fact that it was an imitation of the wojack in the first place.
Anyways, I'm not going to read the next issue, or probably anymore Star Wars comics if they hire cover artists that think alt-right memes are fun. What a disappointment.

Propaganda
Alan Alda - (M*A*S*H) - He is both the saddest wettest little meow meow and your kindly grandfather and your favourite eccentric uncle (mom's side). Somehow it works. Passionate Democrat, feminist, great writer, he and his books are hilarious. Did a cartwheel when he won an Emmy! How he met his wife is the best meet cute of the last two centuries, and they've now been married over 60 years!!!
Billy Dee Williams - (Dynasty, Guiding Light, Chiefs, Brian's Song) - Billy is iconic in every role whether in TV or film.

Alan Alda:
he’s just so good in MASH
he put so much bisexuality into hawkeye i think it fundamentally changed me when i was little and watching mash for the first time. anyway do we all know the story about how he met his wife when they were at a party together and they were the only two people eating the cake that fell on the floor and he fell in love with her over her laugh. i just think hes neat :) i love when theres a strange looking man. also feel it necessary to say that the guy that wrote the book mash was based on wrote himself as hawkeye and HATED alda's hawkeye bc he displayed his morals too much (alda had it in his contract for the show that every episode had to have an operating room scene bc otherwise you arent backdropping the fact that war is Not fun. actually. he almost didnt take the role bc he thought a war comedy would make too much light of the horrors)
please please please use this picture of him, he's so hot in it
His comedic delivery in MASH...
The story of how he met his wife is charming and sweet, and they've now been married 65 years
Pair were said to have locked eyes over the cake and been inseparable ever since
Just look at him. He's the most beautiful man I've ever seen but also he's completely average. He's got a weak jawlines and a round face and these big soft eyes and he's just so beautiful. He's capable of playing a silly charismatic sitcom protagonist in one scene, and a jaded army surgeon haunted by the deaths he's witnessed in the next. He's so hot that my dad once told me he decided to apply to medical school because of how much he was attracted to Hawkeye Pierce. That's literally how I learned that my father was bisexual.
He's also just a really great dude? He's been outspoken about his political beliefs for a long time, and has always been strongly and vocally anti-war, pro-feminist, and pro lgbt. He served a tour in the Korean war, and his experiences there informed his performance in the show. He (and honestly the entire cast, but especially him) really just soared above and beyond the standard for comedies of the day.
He's so funny and his eyes are pretty
He loves and is a champion of science (Source).
this whole scene is really good but this is like truly a the cream of the crop trapper john “no thoughts head empty” mcintyre scene.

if i were in charge of star wars i would end the last movie witth yoda reading the story out of a big book and he gives a little chuckle and says "happened, none of that did." and then he gets out of his truck and waddles into walmart
some of my fav 'inconsistencies' between the prequel trilogy & the OT and by fav i mean i genuinely think these were good calls:
it is NOT normal for Jedi to become force ghosts when they die. that's like a brand new skill Yoda just unlocked. if Luke tried to tell ppl about Obi-wan's force ghost literally no-one, even ppl who were familiar w the Jedi when they were around, would know wtf he was talking about
R2-D2 knew everything that went down during the prequels and just opted not to tell anyone ever which is fully in-character for him
becoming a Jedi was a whole process involving 15+ years of training and formal trials to determine if you were ready for knighthood and then with Luke Yoda was just like 'yeah fuck it you're a jedi knight now. burn the jedi temple did. made up all the rules are. gives a shit who does.'
everyone just kind of forgot who the Jedi were within the span of a generation. love that.
anyway sound off. at what stage do ppl think Han figured out the Force was real. the boring answer is after seeing Obi-wan vanish but i think he could rationalise that away as his eyes playing tricks on him. what do we think.
that's so funny. that means he accepted Vader deflecting a blaster bolt with his hand as just something freaky government cyborgs can do, and stuck by Luke for multiple years as he tried to figure this Force stuff out, and just treated it like your friend getting really really into neopaganism to cope with a loss.
like yeah kid good job with the witching. i'm certain it will be more useful against your enemies than your sharpshooting. no i do not think your witchcraft is supplementing your aim but i'm not gonna argue about it.
yeah Luke was like 'I heard Ben Kenobi's voice in my head telling me how to blow up the Death Star :)' and Han was like 'kind of an unusual coping mechanism but I'm not gonna argue with him'
probably the weirdest information about star wars i could give you is that the death star garbage compactor monster from episode 4 was sentient, was force sensitive, and it wasn’t trying to eat luke - it was trying to baptise him
to everybody wondering, no, im sorry, Omi did not escape the death star. she died when it was destroyed, just as she foresaw in her visions.
as a sort of silver lining, through the grace of the force she was able to accept her fate and wondered what she would be in the next life, as her culture believed in reincarnation.
ppl often (reasonably) dunk on star wars environments for not having proper safety standards but important to note that cloud city very much does have guard rails
this whole thing has guard rails. the bit Luke jumps from doesn't but i think that's bcos you straight up aren't supposed to climb on it? you also have to go through like a whole long stretch of what seem to be maintenance rooms w lockable doors to get to this area. i think it's fair to say this is supposed to be a trained maintenance workers only zone.
anyway my point w all this is to say, Lando was a responsible city mayor who definitely had safety standards in place to pretent situations like people falling down the giant shaft that dumps stuff directly into the gas giant and was consequently most likely very confused and kinda mad as to how Luke ended up falling down the giant shaft that dumps stuff directly into the gas giant. he signed city ordinances about this and carried out safety inspections personally. ):<
#im imagining him angrily petitioning the city council to add a giant-ass safety net to the shaft that is automatically deployed #when an unauthorized presence is detected
"Safety-conscious Lando" is genuinely a supportable reading – note that when he climbs on top of the Millennium Falcon to retrieve Luke at the end of The Empire Strikes Back, not only is he clearly wearing a safety harness, the film makes an explicit point of showing him both clipping (2:24) and unclipping (2:41) as he exits and re-enters:
there's a secret good sequel series that lives only in brain where finn and rey are force-sensitive foils to each other and they still spend movie #2 entirely apart but it's because they're exploring parallel and at time opposite relationships with the force and their place in the universe
and in my secret good version. okay hear me out. the han-leia kid is a hot lady. okay. are we following. and she DOES abandon luke's new jedi, not by falling and murdering people, but by stealing the millennium falcon and running off to escape responsibility and swaggers around with incredible han solo "loser pretending to be cool" energy. and then. she accidentally picks up two force sensitive teens on jakku and she's like. are you KIDDING me
listen my OC would be so good. she's introduced in like a space bar and you're just like "oh okay, the han solo character is a lady in this movie, okay"
but THEN some sort of shit hits the fan and you get that sexy, sexy lightsaber reveal. DO YOU SEE MY VISION
like he's still figuring out his sexuality & then he sees Leia for the first time and goes 'i feel profoundly drawn to and fascinated by this girl deep down in my soul. this must be what being attracted to a woman feels like. this is definitely a normal crush experience.'
Luke, trying to socialise with the other fighter pilots: you know when you see a girl you like and you immediately feel like you've known her your whole life and you just know that you were destined to meet and that your souls are made out of the same stuff?
Wes: when I see a girl I like the first thing I notice is boobs
down w both aroace Luke & gay Luke for this take btw. both work. gay Luke has the edge for me bcos of the idea of him eventually actually getting a crush on a guy and going 'wait a second. hey wait a second-'
Okay, saw some storm pilot art and it reminded me I drew this as a warm up am few weeks ago and I just wanted to share. There was some concept art of Finn with this bad ass jacket floating around and I just couldn’t resist making it a sweet moment between my 2 favorite rebel bois. Oh my god, I love them so much 😭
Like, can you just imagine Finn walking through some market place and seeing this jacket and just being like, “Well, he did give me his… does he like orange? He’s a pilot, he has to like orange.”
Stormpilot is cannon, no one will convince me otherwise.
Here’s the original concept of y’all are curious! I think I’m gonna make a Jedi Finn next… my guy deserves more love.
