Gareth did not so much as blink an eye at the threat of a dock in pay. His brother had once tried that threat on him, which only elicited a hysterical fit of laughter from him, seeing as half of his inheritance was part of the funding that Kingsman US got. Indeed, he knew already the expenses from the last vehicle incident was going to come right out of his own Redford pockets.
“Although I have not finished my report on the matter, Ms. Dearing, I assure you, I do my best to not let incidents like these happen. If you look at my record when I am not paired up with that tweed-wearing menace, you will note that I am very good about keeping what I use intact.”
Leaning back in his chair, he took out his own expense book, jotting down the number just given to him.
“And Ms. Dearing? For future reference, a threat in a pay dock is not as effective with people like me. I suggest you threaten a cut in our mission budgets next time.”
After her work at Jurassic World, Claire was used to dealing with millionaires. The investors she spoke to and showed around the park all had very deep pockets, as did her boss. However, she wasn’t used to being in charge of millionaires, and that, as she was quickly learning, was an entirely different situation.
She paged through Gareth’s file, eyes quickly skimming expense and damage reports for past missions. “You do seem to have a very good track record overall,” she agreed. “However I see you don’t always return in the weapons you’ve used for each mission, but that’s not my department.”
She was still far too new to feel comfortable overstepping her bounds by doing work outside of what she had been assigned to. She was a go-getter by nature though, so no doubt once she found her footing within the organization she’d feel comfortable chasing down agents for all sorts of things.
“If you prefer not to be paired up with--” she checked the file again for the agent’s name “--James Spencer, perhaps you could bring it up with the head of their branch, or the head of ours? Of course this is all very new to me still, but I’d think agents would do their best work when with someone they feel comfortable with.”
That, also, wasn’t her department, but there still didn’t seem to be any harm in offering the suggestion. Though she’d only spoken to Gareth a short time, he’d seemed very nice so far and she’d hate to see him stuck working with someone he disliked.
“Thank you for the tip, by the way. Next person I have to threaten, it’ll be with a dock to their mission budget.”
