“Be kinder than necessary, because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.” . Have you ever been at a birthday party or headed to some fun event and you get a text with bad news or find out someone is mad at you, and your entire experience changes. You can’t have fun because your mind is elsewhere, worried about a crisis somewhere else? You laugh and talk and try, but your eyes drift away and your stomach turns. . I always think about that when someone is rude to me. I think ‘what storm is inside them? What happened today or over thirty years?’ . I was talking to a famous person once and they said something I’d never thought about. ‘When you meet a stranger, you aren’t allowed to have a bad day. You might forget them, but they won’t forget you. You’re not a stranger to them. So however you speak to them, phrase your words, your tone, will be how they describe you for the rest of their life. The first question anyone asks is always 'are they nice?’ and then the person will answer with authority based on a run in and a selfie from Starbucks. I’m not allowed to have a bad day. I’m not allowed to turn off.’ . Who knew anonymity could be a luxury? Not having to be 'on’ all the time? It sounds exhausting. .
