it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to say that, outside of his younger brother, you are the only person that idia consistently interacts with at night raven college. or, at least, the only person that he chooses to interact with of his own free will — and usually in person as well. which is, naturally, a massive step for idia to take given just how introverted he is. but that’s just a natural part of being friends, so you and those around you (him included) are easily able to just brush off how unusual your consistent proximity to him is
… well, until ortho ever so cheerfully comes to idia one day (thankfully when he’s alone and wasting a few hours watching replays of premo’s latest concert, sevens know he’d absolutely combust if anyone else was present to overhear this) and walks him through all the data he’d evidently been collecting for a while to show that idia, with a one percent margin for error of course, is hopelessly and desperately in love with you — with the fluctuating vital signs to show it!
safe to say he had a massive crisis after that little bombshell was dropped — alternating between the most unconvincing attempts at denial ever witnessed in the history of twisted wonderland, to self deprecating comments about how much of a loser he is and how you’d never like someone like him that ortho kept doing his best to field and deny, to spiralling about whether he was being obvious and if you knew already, and back again. and this whole process lasted for the better part of two weeks, fluctuating in severity from day to day while he did his absolute best to avoid any interaction with you or anyone else
but after two whole weeks passed, ortho decided to intervene and started pretty much forcing his big brother to stop avoiding you. and for someone so adorable, the little technomantic humanoid can be stern as all hell when he wants to — meaning, naturally, and much to his clear mortification, the two of you were back to spending time together within the day (all arranged by ortho in such a way that idia literally couldn’t back out)
and the difference in how he acts around you now that he’s aware of how he feels is so painfully blatant that you’d have to be actively trying to remain ignorant not to immediately notice that something was up:
like the fact that his hair is now constantly flaring up neon pink at the edges, the colour creeping further up towards his scalp whenever you so much as look in his direction, or brush your shoulder against his, or even just say his name. a sign that’s as impossible to miss as it is impossible for him to hide, even as he clumsily shoves his hair back into his hoodie to try and maintain some sliver of dignity in front of you
or how he can’t seem to string together a full sentence without trailing off and going silent and seemingly waiting desperately for the floor to swallow him whole. energetic, slang-filled rants and info-dumps slowing down and cutting off within seconds of him catching your eye and seeing you smiling encouragingly… at him… actually listening… to him… and then his brain pauses and he goes silent and you’re left to pick up the conversation where he left off
or the way he can’t seem to keep still anymore — forever fidgeting and adjusting himself in his seat when you sit next to him, and messing with his hair or hoodie strings when you’re talking, like he needs to ground himself to stay present and available for the conversation. like being with you, smelling your perfume/cologne, and hearing your voice is enough to drive him to distraction as he tries to ignore the fluttering in his chest… very unsubtle
or how his eyes keep anxiously flitting about like staring at you for too long will result in him getting shot dead — flickering between your eyes, your lips, and your hands, before forcing himself to look literally anywhere else in the room in the most blatant attempt at playing innocent you’ve ever seen… only to then go back to nervously looking at you out of the corner of his eye again a few moments later
or the fact that he seems much more keen to show off for you, even if it comes across much more awkward in delivery now than it did back when he would brag to you in the months prior to ortho’s little chat with him. nonetheless, though, it should be more than enough to clue you in on his crush even before he gets around to confessing — and if that doesn’t then ortho calling you his favourite future sibling should do the trick

now malleus has never actually had a crush before — before you, that is — so it takes him a long time to actually recognise that the warmth in his chest and the way your voice makes him smile no matter his mood are symptoms of a far more complex affliction that just friendship. though, for someone who grew up so terribly isolated and who made his first friend (independent of status or pre-existing relation) so late in life compared to most, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that he brushed off any clues about his feelings as just being a natural part of friendship
frankly this will go on for a while until lilia ends up clued in to how fond his ward has become of you and, mercifully, decides to step in and enlighten him about what he’s been feeling. a conversation that, while awkward, ends up being immensely productive as malleus comes out of it with a new sense of awareness about himself and a determination to woo you properly
and that means you will be subjected to several months of slow, earnest, very old fashioned, fae courting traditions and rituals. some deeply confusing, others flustering, but all with such clear intentions that you’re sure to pick up on what he’s doing long before he actually confesses or you go seeking out an explanation from his family or from whatever literature you can get your hands on
because, well, you’d have to be exceptionally oblivious to not notice that at least some of the following are being done with romantic intentions:
bestowing the gift of nature — which translates to you waking up, pretty much daily, to a metric tonne of the most beautiful flowers you’ve ever seen covering just about every surface in your home: petals scattered tastefully across your floor, vases upon vases arranged with care across your tables and countertops, and even one singular carefully de-thorned and cut briar rose laid with intention across a handwritten note on the centre of your desk. and the delicate cursive of the letter within immediately gives away precisely who decided to bury you alive in pollen (well, noy really as he somehow managed to remove the pollen from every single flower present as to not overwhelm your senses — but still!)… along with the fact that he litttally signed it, but that’s beside the point. not that you’re too annoyed, clearly he meant well, and you could make quite a bit of money selling them back to the mostro lounge to be used as decoration if you ever tire of the sight… so…
leaving plenty of presents at your door: flower crowns weaved with careful hands that are much too strong for the delicate work, baskets of carefully arranged fruits and sweets that he purchased himself based on what he recalled of your likes, jewellery crafted using some of the most beautiful gems from his personal hoarde, and plenty of handcarved gargoyles and grotesques that he clearly spent weeks carefully creating for you. surely to the detriment of his dorm mates unless he remembered to put up a sound dampening spell, as you know how well he loves to work into the deepest hours of the night
inviting you out for long walks under the stars — using his own magic to light your way as you talk about anything and everything that comes to mind for as long as time will allow, all while he raptly listens to your every word like it’s the most important thing in the world. sometimes you two just walk around campus, sometimes he teleports you to some far away ruin where you can lounge and talk and laugh in peace without the risk of being interrupted, and sometimes you’ll start dancing under the moonlight in a clumsy sort of choreography that makes his chest flutter and his pale cheeks flush pink. no matter what you do, though, malleus will always walk you back to your door and see you back inside with a good night, a farewell, and a subtle blessing for a peaceful night of rest for you, before he returns back to be scolded for sneaking away from his retainers… again
showering you in compliments… which, while varying from accidentally offputting and vaguely threatening in delivery, to extremely flowery and borderline shakespearean in nature, do usually manage to land with you as intended. if only because, by now, you’re used to how he carries himself and are able to brush off his particular eccentricities better than most. lilia, however, shows no such mercy and will endlessly tease him for stumbling over his own claws so much in his attempts to flatter you in accordance with all the novels and ettiquete guides he grew up memorising
and showing off his immense power at any given chance — being ever mindful to just show off and never actually frighten you, which involves far more restraint than he’s used to but that he’s found to be more than worth the trouble when it results in you complimenting him so sweetly. admittedly, though, this is more of an instinctual dragon courting thing than a fae thing… but you’ll be subjected to it regardless in the months leading up to his confession
of course he was doing some of that anyway before he realised his feelings and why he felt so compelled to be around you so often, but now that he actually knows what he’s doing and why it’s very difficult to miss the fact that you’re being courted. like, even silver figured it out very early on into malleus’ efforts and he’s notoriously oblivious. that’s how obvious he’s being about it
v i l s c h o e n h e i t
vil schoenheit is not a man that acts without thought — he can’t afford to, not with how integral his reputation is to his career — nor is he someone who lets his feelings influence his actions. not publicly, anyway. so when he realises that his feelings for you have shifted away from just being strictly platonic and have become something far more permanent and intimate, he makes every effort he possibly can to not show it
and as someone who has spent the better part of his life as an actor and has been media trained to hell and back, it’s safe to say that his poker face is absolutely impeccable and nobody — not you, not his father, not his fans, and not anyone except maybe rook who seems to know him better than he knows himself somehow— will be able to tell that he feels any sort of way for you. or anyone, for that matter, since he goes out of his way to keep his behaviour and routines as unaltered by this new revelation as possible
mostly for your protection as he’s keenly aware of how rabid certain fans can be and he doesn’t want you to be thrown into the deep end of a harassment campaign just because he can’t control himself, but also for his own sanity as the idea of his feelings getting outed before he has the chance to properly sit down with himself, process them, and confess on his own terms is, frankly, absolutely terrifying. so, yeah, chances are you will not be picking up on his crush before he wants you to know about it
that’s not to say that there won’t be any signs that he has feelings for you. just that they’re all extremely subtle and difficult to notice unless you already know what you’re looking for. like:
vil spending a few more seconds fretting over your outfit and hair and makeup than he does for even the messiest of students in his dorm. correcting your collar, restyling your hair, and even helping you redo your makeup in areas where it smudged with a level of patience and care that his dorm mates don’t often see from him. the perfectionism and outfit fussing, sure. but the way he lingers on you for a few heartbeats longer when he’s done is new… not that anyone other than rook would ever bother counting such a thing, of course
him checking in with you to make sure you’re eating properly and keeping hydrated even when he’s so busy he barely has the time to keep on top of his class work. often times texting you before he checks in with his vice, his manager, or anyone else in his circle on his busiest days. not that you’d know that, of course, but still it’s a pretty damning indicator of his fondness that would very quickly give away his favouritism should anyone else get ahold of his personal phone
the way he always smiles back at you whenever you greet him from across the courtyard or classroom, never once taking out any frustration he’s experiencing on you even when he would do so without hesitation to pretty much anyone else. his whole demeanour softening in a way that’s just subtle enough for others to miss or dismiss, but notable enough to stand out to those who know him well — because the way he smiles at you and the way he smiles for the camera are worlds apart in all the smallest and most important ways, and that speaks volumes for his affection even as he goes out of his way to obscure his true feelings for you
his willingness to help tutor you in potionology, and the more gentle (though still authorative) tone he takes on when correcting, instructing, and praising you during those tutoring sessions. being far more patient with you, far more giving of his increasingly sparse free time between lessons and club time and work, and far more understanding of your mistakes than he is even with the underclassmen that he’s the most invested in (like epel, for example). his behaviour when you’re alone such a far cry from the beautiful tyrant he’s been described to be by others that it’s almost comical… if easily dismissed as him just being a good friend to you, luckily for him
and the fact that he never comes back from a shoot or filming session off campus without at least something small for you. usually a trinket that reminded him of you or a snack that he knows you enjoy. though he does usually cover this up by either intentionally buying things for other people in his circle at the same time as to not rouse suspicion, or disregarding the gesture as just him having ‘extras’ of each item that he has no need for
so, yeah, you’d definitely be forgiven for not realising that the beauty of pomefiore is head over heels for you before he gets around the planning and executing his carefully arranged confession. because, well, he was actively trying to keep you and everyone else in the dark about it. he’ll make it up to you when you’re officially a couple, though, don’t worry
It was a cold evening. As soon as Yuu crossed the threshold of Malleus' room, they immediately got goose bumps. And it's not because of excitement but rather because of the low temperature.
Yuu thought that since Malleus was a cold-blooded fae, he would rather live in warm place. They were really surprised at how wrong they were. Lying on the prince's large bed, they tried to snuggle up into the sheets. But even that didn't help...
Yuu was shivering from the cold, afraid to even mention the unpleasant feeling. The mattress sagged slightly under the weight of the dragon. He finally lay down next to the prefect, not looking tired at all. For Malleus this hour was still too young to fall asleep. He was lying on a side, resting his head on his hand. He stared at his human for a moment, then placed his free hand on their cheek. Their red cheek.
"Child of man, you're shaking. Are you cold? Or maybe you're not feeling well?" Malleus asked with concern in his voice.
"It's cold here." Yuu said quietly.
Malleus smiled gently, nodding his head to show he understood. He sat up for a moment, then covered Yuu with his shawl. He looked them straight in the eye and became a little more serious.
"No wonder you're shaking. You are dressed too lightly... But don't worry. I know a few other ways to warm you up." Malleus said and small green flames emerged from his nostrils. But after a while he laughed loudly. It was sincere.
"Just kidding. After all, my human is as delicate as a flower. I have to take care of them in a gentle way." Malleus added after a moment, putting a strand of Yuu's hair behind their ear.
But even with his shawl, they were still cold! Yuu's nose must have been red by now! Malleus didn't want his guest to catch a cold. He moved even closer to Yuu and put his arm around them. After a moment, he pulled them into his chest, trying to cover them with his entire body. Like a dragon protecting his treasure.
"It's fine, child of man. I will share my own warmth with you..."
There was a short but comfortable silence between them. His hug was a bit surprising, but it worked very well. Yuu finally felt a lot warmer. She snuggled even more, trying to cover their face, which was now red from embarrassment.
"Yuu, you're so close. You can probably hear my heart beating. When I can have you so close and all to myself... I'm truly happy."
So I’ve never really requested anything before , and I’m sorry if I make you uncomfortable (feel free to ignore this request) but how would Sebek react to a depressed darling finding out that she started smoking whilst trying to hide it from him ?
Yuu looked around the ballroom, wanting to find someone to dance with or talk to. But it seemed like everyone they knew was busy. With great disappointment, they wanted to go back to their table to sit down and take a break from standing around doing nothing.
They were glad that the others were having such a good time, even if they weren't part of the laughter they heard. Even in the distance Yuu could see Grim showing off his pyrites. They had to admit it was quite an adorable sight - it even made them smile.
They turned to go to the tables but someone grabbed their wrist. Yuu immediately looked towards the person who stopped them. It was Deuce!
"I finally found you! I swear I've been looking for you everywhere. There are so many people here it's easy to get lost" Deuce said not letting go of Yuu's wrist.
Yuu looked at him in silence, as if waiting for him to just finally tell why he was looking for them.
“And always someone would drag me onto the dance floor to dance with them. It’s hard to say 'no' when everyone is in such a good mood. I’m tired but I have the strength for one more dance. So... Would you like to dance with me?”
Yuu nodded slightly in agreement. They were excited! It was as if Deuce had read their mind, that this was exactly what they needed right now - to be in someone's company.
“Really? You know, I actually wanted my first dance of tonight to be us, but you disappeared from my sight right after senior's song. Now that I’ve found you, I have no intention of letting you go.”
Deuce led Yuu closer to the dance floor and then grabbed their hand properly. He wondered for a moment where he should place his other hand. He had been dancing almost all night, but he still had trouble remembering the positions.
"Sorry! Today is the first time I'm dancing like this... When I was little I used to dance a lot with my mom. Well... It was her dancing and I would jump around her laughing loudly. I remember it well because we always did it whenever I was in a bad mood" Deuce said without any embarrassment.
"That's why I apologize right away if I step on your foot. You won't be the first person I've hurt like this today..." he added after a moment and smiled nervously.
Yuu laughed quietly and shook their head to show that it didn't bother them. They both listened to the music and at the right moment they finally started to sway to it. After a while, Yuu moved closer to rest their head on Deuce's shoulder. They were glad that they could finally enjoy the ballroom atmosphere. And it was with Deuce of all people! He had always been there for them since they met.
Deuce tried to stay calm, even though he felt his face turn a lot redder. This time it wasn't from exhaustion, but rather embarrassment. He held Yuu close to him so they could move comfortably as they danced. He wondered if they could hear how hard his heart was beating now.
In the end, Deuce's last dance turned into another five dances. All with Yuu! But he wasn't complaining about that. After all, he had been waiting for this all evening!
“Take it.”
Sebek said as soon as he stood in front of shivering Yuu. They were sitting on a bench. His loud tone of voice made it sound more like an order than just simple request. He held out a small wooden bowl with hot soup towards them.
Yuu looked at Sebek with slight surprise but took the bowl from him with hesitation.
“Don't think about it too much, human. I see you shivering from the cold and hot soup will warm you up very quickly. I don't want my liege to think that I didn't care about you during our trip." Sebek explained himself immediately.
He sat down next to them and crossed his arms over his chest. He wasn't even looking at Yuu - he was looking at the food and souvenir stands filled with people. He had to admit that he almost lost Yuu because of this crowd. He was worried when he couldn't see them. Although he is usually honest and says what he thinks, he couldn't utter such words in front of them. It was too embarrassing…
“People are fragile, aren't they? My father cares about the health of others but is really inconsiderate about his own body and soul. Whenever he catches a cold, my mother cooks chicken soup just for him and tells him to stay in bed... She gets angry at him for not taking care of himself but deep down she worries when she sees him all red because of the fever.”
After these words Sebek shook his head and sighed. He moved closer to Yuu, hoping that they didn't notice it.
Only after a few moments he wrapped his arms around them to make them feel even warmer. He still didn't look at them, feeling that if they made eye contact, his cheeks would turn even redder.
“Are you warmer now… Yuu?”
Yuu looked at him and nodded slightly. They knew that deep down he must have been very worried about them. That was quite sweet of him. Yuu put the spoon to their mouth but accidentally burned their lip and immediately hissed in pain. Sebek finally looked at Yuu and immediately grabbed their chin to get a better look at the burn.
“Human! You have to be careful! You're so clumsy that for your safety I'll start feeding you myself… Ah, I guess it's no big deal but…”
Sebek looked into Yuu's eyes, wanting to say something more but the words couldn't come out of his mouth. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath to give himself courage.
“If you're in a lot of pain I can use another of my mother's methods... When I hurt myself as a child, my mother always kissed my wounds and the pain disappeared immediately! So... Yuu, can I kiss you? I want you to feel better."
Head
It would seem that dragons and faes are more resistant to human diseases. Yuu doesn't even remember Malleus sneezing. A runny nose wouldn't be the end of the world for a mage as strong as him... Or at least that's what Yuu thought.
But now they were standing by his bedside with medicine and a cold compress in their hand. Malleus sometimes acted childish and silly but how grumpy he became when he was sick was something different. He needed someone to be with him all the time and take care of him. And when Yuu wanted to leave for a moment, he would say that he was dying! They didn't say anything out loud that his behavior was too dramatic... Because they knew he was acting this way because of fever.
Maybe Malleus would get better faster if he took medicine. Unfortunately he said that these were too bitter for him... Yuu had to try really hard to get him to take at least some cough syrup.
Yuu leaned over the bed, wanting to push away the hair from Malleus' forehead. They wanted to check his temperature with their hand. His forehead was still hot, so that meant that the fever didn't want to go down.
"I hope you get better soon," Yuu said quietly.
They came closer to give him a kiss on his forehead scales. After that they put a cold compress on his skin. Malleus grabbed their hand as soon as they finished and brought it to his red cheek. The prince was so hot that it was burning their skin. He looked at them with tenderness, completely touched by how they cared for him. His green eyes shone even more than usual because of fever.
"I don't want to get better if it means you would take care of me for the rest of my days."
Ah, this fever completely messed with his head...
Heart
Evening walks with Malleus were already a tradition. During this time Yuu and him could always spend their time peacefully, knowing that no one else would bother them. Although Yuu know that as soon as they return to Ramshackle dorm, they would find Grim waiting for them and wagging his tail in anger. But it was quite an adorable sight, so they didn't really mind.
Malleus stopped for a moment to point at the sky and tell about a constellation that had caught his attention a while ago. Yuu listened to him focused, looking back and forth between the sky and him. But they became worried when they noticed that he was shaking and his lips had turned a little blue.
He didn't pay attention to his well-being when he was in the company of them. Or maybe he did but he preferred not to worry about it... just to be in their company a little bit longer. Yuu came closer to him and grabbed his tie, so that he would bend down just a little. His cheeks were already red from the cold but at that moment they became even darker. He thought that they would soon connect their lips together in a kiss.
Instead, Yuu hugged him tight. Now their hearts were close together.
"Let's go back, Malleus. I don't want you to catch a cold again," Yuu said, closing their eyes. They didn't move away from him, wanting to give him their warmth.
Malleus slowly hugged them back and hid his face in the crook of Yuu's neck. Yuu was so warm, nice and soft that he immediately felt much better. His heart began to beat much faster at this simple gesture.
Neck
Yuu woke up before their alarm could start to ring. They rubbed their face with their hands to wake themself up more. They yawned loudly as they stretched their arms. Yuu had to admit that they slept well. It was something they didn't experience often since they started having strange dreams.
They wanted to get out of bed but they couldn't even move as Malleus held them by the waist. He instinctively snuggled up to them even more.
Yuu was a little surprised because Malleus was usually the first one to get up. Whenever they tried to move again, he hugged them even tighter. They began to wonder if Malleus was actually asleep or just pretending just to stay in bed longer. This was something new...
Yuu looked at his peaceful face and it seemed that he was really asleep. Even after all that night of fidgeting in bed, his hair was still perfect. He really was like a prince from a fairy tale! Yuu could only say that they were really lucky.
They took the strands of hair that covered his neck. It was nice to see at least a little bit of his skin at times like these. Usually Malleus covered this with a neck corset or the collar of his shirt. Yuu gently ran their fingertips over his smooth skin, then moved closer to it. They placed a few gentle kisses on it.
"Wake up. We'll be late if we stay here even a minute longer," Yuu said, stopping their kisses for a moment.
Malleus only mumbled something under his breath, clearly not wanting to leave the bed yet. But Yuu could see his smile that crept onto his lips.
"You have to try harder..." Malleus finally whispered, not even opening his eyes.
Yuu sighed quietly and again placed their lips on his neck and later also on his jaw and earlobe. Malleus only laughed quietly at each kiss. It tickled.
They ended up being late for their classes but Malleus was clearly in a good mood for the rest of the day.
Horns
Malleus covered his face with one hand so that others wouldn't see the tears running down his cheeks. Although he was only here with Yuu, who was gently stroking his back. He covered his broken horn with his other hand.
It had been a while since Malleus had overblotted. One of his horns had to be broken if they wanted to wake him from his madness, but it still made Malleus unable to come to terms with it. So much time had passed and it didn't seem like it would grow back even if he tried everything... Spells. Potions. Nothing.
"It's okay," Yuu whispered, wanting to comfort him.
They grabbed his hand to take it away from the horn. They came closer and placed a kiss on his broken horn. After that they looked at Malleus and wiped his wet cheeks with their other hand. Yuu lifted his head so he could look at them.
"I'm here for you," Yuu added, smiling gently.
Malleus didn't say anything. He only hugged Yuu and clenched his hands on the material of their clothes. He was trying to calm himself down... But the tears wouldn't stop running down his cheeks.
"Will you be my Valentine, Yuu?"
Malleus had heard these words spoken by other human children to others quite often today. And each time he looked at these people with curiosity, trying to prepare himself to ask the same question to the person who had cast this love spell on him. Love was apparently such a powerful spell that even he was unable to fight it.
But how could he when the person that stole his heart was someone who wasn't afraid of him. In their eyes Malleus was an ordinary person and this touched his heart and soul deeply. He cherished their friendship but he knew that now he wanted something more. He wanted to be able to say that he was theirs. Forever.
Yuu looked even more beautiful than usual today. It was as if they were expecting someone to confess their sincerest feelings to them. Although maybe that was just something only Malleus could notice.
Their expression seemed a bit surprised at hearing these words but after a moment a smile appeared on their lips, as did a faint blush on their cheeks. It was so adorable that even then his heart started beating faster. Yuu was truly like the most beautiful rose flower.
Malleus turned his gaze from their face to the box of chocolates he held in his hand. A black, heart-shaped package, tied with a ribbon in Yuu's favorite color. At first glance it was clear that the package, as well as the chocolates inside, were made only for them! No one would be able to buy anywhere else what Malleus had prepared for them today. It was special.
He ran his hand over the lid of the box, squinting his green eyes slightly. Would Yuu like it? He was sure that they, like Grim, also loved something sweet. However if that wasn't enough, Malleus also prepared a bouquet of roses. Fresh and in a strong red color to emphasize his feelings for them. He carefully removed every thorn so that they wouldn't prick their finger.
"Yes!"
Yuu finally replied. And at that moment Malleus finally let out the breath he didn't even know he was holding.
"I've actually been waiting for this all day, Silver. I'm so happy right now."
Those were the last words Malleus heard before he moved away from the wall. There was no point in secretly observing this scene any longer. He walked away slowly with a serious expression on his face that betrayed no emotion. Even though the bouquet of flowers he held withered in an instant and the box of chocolates was slightly crushed by his tight grip.
He was jealous, very jealous. It was certain that the beautiful February weather had surely turned into a harsh blizzard. However he could do nothing about it but bless these two.

the fifth most powerful mage in the world, the unbeatable housewarden of diasomnia, the crown prince and future king of briar valley, a dragon fae so unapproachable that he spent most of his life in near-complete isolation — only ever faced with total fear or total reverence with very very few that dared to view or treat him with anything in between the two… malleus draconia has lived a life defined by both privilege and tragedy, worship and isolation, and when there are already so few in the world that dare to treat him as a person instead of a weapon or a god it almost goes without saying that you, as his mate and lover, are going to become quite possibly the most important person in his life. and a very important person on the world stage too, eventually, by merit of your inevitable marriage (as he dates to marry) which will pave the way for you to rule briar valley by his side and share in his burdens… but such is the consequence of courting and adoring a future monarch, so you have only yourself to blame for this (for better and for worse)
as with all dragons, malleus is incredibly territorial over you and can be very possessive — though he does do his absolute best to keep himself in check and not give into his instincts. both as he doesn’t want to upset you by coming across too strongly and giving the impression that he doesn’t trust you (because he truly does, more than just about anyone else in all of twisted wonderland, it’s just his instincts telling him to keep you all to himself and they are very very difficult to ignore), and as he has to be more mindful of how he presents himself, especially after his overblot and the subsequent literal damage to his appearance, as he has been thoroughly lectured on how he ought to carry himself and acting like an instinct-driven fool was very strongly advised against by both his grandmother and lilia
he is also incredibly protective over you, as he is with all of those he holds dear, and there is virtually nothing that he will not or would not do in order to ensure your continued happiness and safety. thankfully for you both, however, there are very few people that are foolish enough to attempt to harass or harm a dragon’s mate so you may go many years together before you ever get to experience the full depths of just how protective he can be — and when your boyfriend is the fifth most powerful mage in all of twisted wonderland it’s safe to say that there is little he cannot do in order to intimidate, mutilate, or otherwise force whoever intended on causing you mental or physical harm to repent and leave you be
outside of lilia, you’re the only person who gets to see the less dignified sides of him — especially after his overblot when his emotions no longer directly influence the weather and he’s more freely able to express himself in general, but even long before that too. you get to see him at his most childish and petty, at his most playful and teasing, at his most clingy and affectionate, and in all the ways that the senate would surely scold him endlessly for behaving because of the title he holds. and, honestly, it’s immensely cathartic for him to be able to let down all of his walls and not have to be ‘perfect’ with you — and you can tell as much without him ever needing to voice it because you can see how much he relaxes when it’s just the two of you compared to how he acts when you’re around others
while malleus certainly won’t pressure you to join the gargoyle studies club, if you ever ask outright to become a member he will visibly light up in a way that makes it impossible not to notice just how pleased he is. and you don’t have to worry about a lack of knowledge about grotesque or gargoyles because your beloved boyfriend is all too happy to regale you with everything he knows as he guides you around campus to show off all of his favourite statues. you can even make a weekly date out of your club meetings since it’s literally just the two of you present anyway — not that he’d ever complain about getting some alone time with you… but it would also be nice to have more members to share in your mutual passion for the statues
dragons are proud creatures and malleus is no exception, and as such he is very receptive to any words of affirmation you give him. after all, despite being surrounded by sicophants from his youth the compliments and praise they gave to him was always conditional and carried an undercurrent of fear towards him… but you, as his lover, offer your affection unconditionally and mean every word you say to him, which is something that he isn’t quite used to but also knows he will never tire of no matter how many decades you spend by his side
malleus almost never calls you by your name, instead referring to you using a string of deeply affectionate terms of endearment either in his native briaran or in the common tongue. he also tends to lean towards more traditional terms of endearment and more often than not precedes each pet name with ‘my’ (it’s a dragon thing, the subtle claiming, don’t pay it any mind). think along the lines of ‘my beloved’, ‘my dear’, ‘my heart’, ‘my treasure’, and so on
having spent most of his life in isolation, quality time is really important to him and it really does mean the world to malleus whenever you reach out and personally invite him to spend time with you or whenever you ask to tag along with him as he goes about his own business. and it doesn’t matter to him whether you’re throwing a party or just having a spring clean, being considered and sought out and having his presence actively desired by you and being welcomed to spend that time with you is more than enough for him — because for as much as he can enjoy his own company, he’s found that he much prefers yours instead
if you leave the planning up to him most of your dates with malleus are going to end up more low-energy. and while a lot will involve the exploration of various ruins, he’s also just more than happy to go walking with you — enjoying the scenery around you and losing himself in conversation in a way he’s never quite experienced before you… and maybe stopping to purchase an icy treat or two on the way, weather permitting of course
he loves being able to share his interests with you and to show his appreciation for you in return — your patience, your understanding, your unwavering presence in his life — he has carved you multiple small scale gargoyles and grotesques as gifts. he claims each one is inspired by you, or a different facet of your personality, and that you can see as much if you study their facial expressions carefully enough… but whether or not you can actually tell is entirely up to you
you are malleus’ favourite subject to learn about, even surpassing his decades-long passion for all things gargoyle and grotesque related, and he has no qualms about asking you outright about whatever queries pop into his head. some of which are more mundane (what your favourite flower is, what your parents’ names are, what your least favourite food is, etc.) and a lot of which are surprisingly introspective and catch you very off guard whenever he randomly pops into existence besides you and asks them. he also asks your close friends about you, to varying degrees of success given that most of them are terrified of him. and rest assured he has a fantastic memory and will never forget anything that he learns about you, no matter how minor — which makes him a very thoughtful and attentive partner in the long run… and also borderline impossible to argue with (for better or for worse), but that’s by the by
after being alone for so long he is, admittedly, rather touch starved and absolutely melts whenever you decide to shower him with physical affection. however, because of how he was raised it will take a long time for him to actually admit to you just how much he craves your touch, and even more so for him to start reaching out to you on his own — after all, he’s fully aware of his own strength and he’s petrified of hurting you so it will take him a long time to train himself how to hold back enough to indulge in physical affection without losing control. it’s a process, to say the least, but by the end of it you will have a very tactile and borderline clingy dragon who would gladly spend every moment of every day wrapped up in your arms if it wasn’t for the duties he has to fulfil (and the image he has to maintain, of course)
his favourite places to kiss you are on your lips, your hands, and your throat — though he has enough decorum to reserve the latter of the three for moments when you two are completely alone. in return, malleus quite enjoys being kissed on the lips, on the scales upon his forehead, and on his palms (his broken horn is also up there after his overblot, but he’s a bit torn between it acting as a reminder of his greatest failure and the gesture being a tender reminder that you still love and accept him despite it all… he’s in two minds about it, really)
being a prince it’s safe to say that he has a great amount of wealth at his disposal, more than enough to ensure that you as his lover never have to want for anything so long as you stay by his side. and while he is aware that not everyone takes easily to being spoiled by gifts, it’s instinct for him to want to provide for you so you’re just going to have to come to terms with having all of your needs met… and being the recipient of the occasional gorgeous piece of jewellery or ancient artifact from his personal collection
malleus already has an extensive knowledge of all things related to magic and history and just about everything else you could ever hope to learn about at night raven college or similar academies across twisted wonderland, so if you’re ever struggling to grasp a particular subject all you need to do is ask and he’ll be more than happy to tutor you. both for your academic benefit, and because he just likes getting the chance to show off his knowledge and fish for compliments
a romantic at heart, malleus is the type of old fashioned boyfriend who will send you love letters. lots of love letters. even more when he has to return home to briar valley and can’t see you in person. all of them detailing, in flawless cursive and eloquent flowery prose, the depths of his adoration for you and how truly lucky he feels to have found you — it’s all very sweet, but a bit of an adjustment if you’re more used to typical ‘modern’ courting methods
because the vast majority of people are so deeply intimidated by malleus, a lot of your classmates are going to start giving you a wide berth when your relationship with him becomes public knowledge. but at the same time there will be people, namely his dorm mates, who will start approaching you so you can pass on any messages they have to malleus on their behalf as you are nowhere near as frightening as your boyfriend is
one of his many talents is playing stringed instruments, and if ever you asked (or if ever lilia gave him the idea of doing so under the pretence of ‘proper courting’) he’d be more than happy to get out his violin and play something for you — or any of his other instruments for that matter depending on what type of music he thinks you’d be more partial to hearing from him
after you two get together, crowley and the other housewardens will start forgoing reaching out to malleus directly in favour of seeking you out and asking you to pass on the details of their next meeting instead. partially because you do at least know how to check your emails in order to find the necessary information, and partially because you’re the only person who will always be able to find malleus in time — after all, it’s your company that he seeks out the most so more often than not you won’t even have to go searching for him to pass on the message because he’ll find you first
he may not take on his dragon form often, but he has no qualms with letting you ride around on his back or snuggle up against his side whenever he does. though he does tend to go very still in moments like that (aside from the mortifying wag of his tail which more than gives away how pleased he is to have all of your attention on him) because he is painfully aware of the difference in size and strength between you and knows how easily he could crush you or send you flying into the nearest wall by accident… but that anxiety aside he does make a wonderful cuddle-buddy in his dragon form, if you don’t mind cuddling outside (after all, he’s a touch too big to fit inside of most buildings like this so that’s kind of your only option)
Coming back again with princess belle and general Lilia! In the original timeline they don’t meet each other in the past, so this here is an AU in which they do. He might act annoyed but he is protecting her no matter what
After months of inactivity and procrastination... I finally completed this character reboot/update. The most notable change is her earrings going from studs to dangling to really emphasize her movement + fixing her proportions so she actually does look tall and physically mature now. Her representative emoji is the mousetrap 🪤 because it symbolizes her constantly getting into close calls lol
