He was such a bright splotch of color and sunshine on a dying, graying world.
He was LITTERALLY climbing the fucking walls trying to get away.
"You don't even have a dog"
Him running. Crying. BEGGING not to be sent from the only home he knows on a trip he KNEW would kill him. Is that not enough? Is that not enough to prove he loves his home? Regardless of it's dimming light. He wanted to die with it. Bringing knowledge and joy to his children (his students).
It's human nature to want to survive. The fact the whole point of Project Hail Mary was to prevent Earth's extinction. To make sure humanity SURVIVED. And LIVING was being the ONE thing Ryland Grace tried to do. WANTED to do versus going to space.
