When I got my first two boys I had only done the basic research and in that basic research it was made clear that glass tanks were prisons for rats.

You NEED to get a cage were your ratties can climb.

Just watch videos of rats in big cages if you really need convincing because the difference is amazing.

And we aren’t damning or blaming anyone who doesn’t keep their rats like this right off. I didn’t do my research and I had my first rat alone in a tiny modified plastic bin. But I corrected my mistake a few weeks later when I had done my research.

THATS what we get mad at! When people knowingly keep their rats in a terrible set up or alone and are given advice on how to fix it, but they refuse to help. With excuses like  “I cant afford a cage” or “Parents will only let me have one” or “He seems fine alone, I spend time with him.”

That is where we get frustrated. We are not faulting you for making mistakes; we are faulting you for not correcting them when you have the chance. I dont expect people to go out and buy a Double Critter Nation. But you better not have 6 rats crammed in a Super Pet either. 

There are ways to save money on rats; buying used cages, buying fleece and toys from thrift stores, ect. You dont have to break the bank to be a good pet owner. But lack of care is no excuse.

First day of the little ones tolerating Nines! I distracted him with some apple sauce which helped the babies seem his as less threatening and Moose even tried to interact with him. Still a bit of jumping when Nines comes and sniffs them but much better tha before!

Sorry for the bad photo but I can’t stop laughing and wanted to post. I just offered this man a cheerio but he had food in his mouth and helplessly tried to shove it in his mouth for a solid 5 seconds before giving up and going to drop the food in his mouth.

Here’s a picture of the older boys cage! It’s a little bit empty this week as I hope to have the babies in with them sometime this week and as they mostly sleep all day, having it a bit easier to clean doesn’t bother them much!

I had to take a break from intros during Christmas because we were not going to be home but we’re about two weeks in now and the babies are warming up. They’re still freaked by Nines but Devi’s been really good!

Hi just asking bc I’m getting a lot of mixed answers lol but is it okay if rats sneeze every once in a while? Like once every 5-10 minutes? My rats never have sneezing fits or anything else wrong with them they just sneeze sometimes. I have aspen bedding and I clean the cage pretty regularly.

Ahhh this is like super late because I’m an incapable human being who can’t check their own accounts properly

If your rat is sneezing that frequently I would get to a vet as it is probably a respiratory infection. If it’s really spread out is maybe okay but I would still get them checked out. Mine normally get a bit sniffly around spring and winter just because the house gets dusty but I always make sure to watch their breathing but this is usually a week at max
