i don't know what type of genre this is but i am so deeply in love w the trope of love for humanity prevailing in the midst of perceiving cosmic horrors. there's so many implications to it— mainly, the idea that belief in humanity is its own kind of unfathomable truth. that there is something worthwhile in it despite not knowing what is on the other side.

on the top of my head, this concept is embodied so well in searching/destroying a world that does not exist, iron lung, and disco elysium. three scenarios where we face an apocalypse-like situation. argue with me all you want with disco but that country canonically gets bombed in a few decades time, and yet in the face of cosmic uncertainty these characters Persist that headache of finding themselves insignificant because being human! the struggle of humanity! has taught them to PERSIST despite these cosmic adversities!

it reminds me so much of theology and left-wing politics. random two things, i know. but its bottomline is the complete reverence to humanity's persistence despite Anything and Everything, and complete resistance against hopelessness despite the bleakness of one's situation. maybe we don't know where tomorrow brings us, or the next decade, or even the next century, but nothing could have predicted us existing today either. we are containers of something infinitely good ready to be explored
