He could see the cogs turning in the other mans head, for all his smarts and intelligence, it was emotions that stumped Dean every time but Castiel was a patient man. He let Dean process, pull away and then subsequently pull him back into a gentle kiss. They’d never shared anything like it, Castiel could tell there was something different and sighed pleasantly against his lips, hooping his arms around Dean’s neck as he heard his whisper. Castiel looked up at Dean and for the first time since he’d met him, been kidnapped by him and spent all this time with him, Dean looked tired. His eyes seemed to have an edge to them as he sighed that worried the shorter man. He leaned gladly into his hold as he wrapped an arm around his waist and nodded without saying another word and he walked out with him. The pet name was a double edged sword as it made his chest warm at the same time as he was chewing on the inside of his cheek with worry because Dean had never called him that before, not so affectionately outside of fucking him. They walked down the concrete, the streets smelled like cigarette smoke and alcohol and most of the people around them were wobbling drunk in their heels or getting up to no good. This town seemed to exude infidelity and sin and it was for this reason he understood why it held a special place in Dean’s heart, he could tell the man liked it here. He wasn’t sure where they were headed and as they walked with their hands wrapped together he had this feeling Dean didn’t know either but he found them a place, pulling Castiel into an alley way that smelled of trash and dust but Castiel had smelled worse. They were still visible to the street but no one was paying them any attention, there was a few people down a ways waiting for the buses that wouldn’t be running again till morning and a man obviously drunk and singing with a mate of his, leaning on each other.  He watched Dean take a drag of his cigarette, the end of the bud glowing orange as he breathed. He didn’t really understand what Dean was saying at first. After all he’d never seen him speak so vulnerably or heard his voice waver even once. “It’d make you look important. And if he thinks you’re important to me, he’s gonna want you, and he’s gonna want to destroy you to get to me.” He frowned a little, a few memories playing through his head before he glanced at the bathroom door, making sure nobody was listening. He wasn’t even aware of how protective he was being of Cas, or the fact that he indirectly stated that Cas was important to him.

Dean leaned in closer. “I’ve just gotta treat you like shit for a little. He’ll change his mind – we haven’t shook on it yet.” His gaze flickered over Cas. He didn’t realize it yet, but even if Alastair didn’t change his mind, he wasn’t letting him take Cas.

“Lets go,” he ‘ordered’, tugging him out into the casino like he was angry with him. “Stop crying. You don’t want to upset our friends, do you?” Dean threatened ‘under his breath’ as he got closer to the table, discreetly winking at Cas that yes, he should look as heartbroken and scared as possible. This way, Alistair might think Dean was faking how much he cared about Cas… Kind of like reverse reverse reverse psychology.

And it worked. “Are we settled?” He asked, sticking a hand out. Alistair’s drugman was obviously not ‘settled’, giving off anxious vibes left and right. Alistair meanwhile was staring right through Cas, trying to understand and figure him out.

“I’ve changed my mind. I want 20k instead. By next month.” He sneered, lips curling up because he knew Dean didn’t have that kind of money, and he loved seeing the slight fear flicker unmistakably across Dean’s eyes.

Then Dean nodded. “Deal,” He agreed, shaking his former mentor’s hand tightly. They glared daggers into each other, before smiling and starting the game.

Castiel almost gave them away, if he’d been looking up he most definitely would have given them completely away as surprise flickered over his face. It was so easy, too easy? No maybe they were just lucky. Still he felt relief sink into him, his tense muscles relaxing some what and it was torture not being able to reach out and touch Dean.

He was off the hook, the flinch that he did let slip when Alistair asked for 20k instead of himself was still quite believable, anyone would be happy to have their lives saved. He looked up again, wiping his nose which was running somewhat and sniffed a little. He needed to feel grounded somewhat.
