“You are made of dreams and this world is not for you” and “It’s life and it’s death or it’s both and there’s nothing like it”
carmen farooq lane still living in the townhouse where her brother mass murdered a shitton of people, a crime that she feels personally responsible for, even though she could absolutely find a new apartment vs ronan sequestering himself in his childhood home where he witnessed the seperate brutal murders of both his parents and building a barrier that purposefully brings up the guilt and trauma that he feels about their deaths designed to keep him in and others out fight for most batshit insane grieving process i’ll personally pay for the winner’s therapy
I love anti-heroines. I love stories about women who get to be as messy and complicated as male characters.
These are my favorite anti-heroines, plus a couple anti-heroic genderfluid characters I really love (since I honestly feel weird about doing something “women-only” because that can make it seem like women are the only people marginalized on the basis of gender).
You can find my other book rec posts here.

No matter what, we can still dream.
“Tell me what it’s like. The race.“ "What it’s like is a battle. A mess of horses and men and blood. The fastest and strongest of what is left from two weeks of preparation on the sand. It’s the surf in your face, the deadly magic of November on your skin, the Scorpio drums in the place of your heartbeat. It’s speed, if you’re lucky. It’s life and it’s death or it’s both, and there’s nothing like it.”
“There are moments that you’ll remember for the rest of your life and there are moments that you think you’ll remember for the rest of your life, and it’s not often they turn out to be the same moment.”
— Maggie Stiefvater, The Scorpio Races
“Why is it that going away is the standard? Does anyone ask you why you stay, Sean Kendrick?” “They do.” “And why do you?”
