We are at their dorm! (The lighting is terrible and is not doing them any favors, so getting screenshots that were both not blurry and didn't make the members look awful was a nightmare.) Taehyun gives us a little verbal tour: they are in the combo living room/dressing room, one door we can see leads to a second dressing room and the other door leads to the bedroom where they all sleep. Yeonjun notes that Beomgyu has claimed the second dressing room for himself, so it's Beomgyu's private room and then everyone else's room. Beomgyu protests and Soobin says that it's still a dressing room, so it's really that they all sleep in the bedroom and Beomgyu sleeps in the dressing room.
They say that they aren't there a lot and only really wash up and sleep there. Sometimes eat late night snacks. Huening Kai says he sometimes reads books there and Beomgyu cackles in disbelief. I'm getting the feeling that he owns a book and read a few pages one time.
Taehyun says he and Huening Kai sleep in top bunks, Soobin and Yeonjun sleep on bottom bunks, but Beomgyu sleeps on the floor. I need a nature-style documentary about this guy. My previous knowledge of TXT was limited to some songs and MVs, a concert 3 years ago, and tiktoks of Soobin eating watermelon. Those things did not prepare me.
The bottom of Huening Kai's bunk is mostly full of plushies. Taehyun tells about how Huening Kai wanted to get rid of some so Taehyun tried to help him, but Huening Kai kept insisting "No not him!" They did not get rid of any. He said it broke his heart when they threw them. Awww
Almost 5 minutes in Beomgyu finally asks what they're doing. Yeonjun apologizes for them talking too much. So polite.
They are doing a bingo game for snacks. The members choose points from the 5x5 bingo board and perform the mission behind them. If they pass the mission they get the points and they can try as many missions as they want. A bingo will get them an extra 5 points as a bonus. The snacks will be given based on the final point total. They will be given 1 grape sticker for every 10 points. Aaaah I was wondering if this was a break from grapes. Nope. 10-19 points: snack food combo of gimbap, tteokbokki, and sundae. 20-29: Burger and cup of soda each. 30-39 points: Large pizza and a bottle of soda. 40-49 points: 3 fried chickens and soda. 50-59: Large jokbal, large bossam, makguksu, and soda. Over 60 points: All of the above. Woah.
They want to do the 5 point tile in the middle first. and it is Hunminjeongum. Yeonjun pulls off the sticker to reveal the challenge and Huening Kai snatches it and sticks it back on. Has this ever worked for him? (it has) For 10 minutes they cannot use loan words. Huening Kai asks the members what they're going to eat today (joking?) and Beomgyu tells everyone to think hard about what they're going to say. They panic because they can't talk about a lot of food on the list. They start just naming random foods. Huening Kai starts listing foods he likes that are not on the list and the third one is tomatoes. I don't think they lasted one entire minute. Oooh producers, please give them one more chance! That was so fast.
Soobin, head of the bargaining and asking for another chance department, asks how else they're supposed to say it? The staff agrees that they get one more chance! Now the members are asking what to call Huening Kai? Are they allowed to say his name? The staff points out that someone said "okay" when they were given the second chance. Huening Kai and Yeonjun insist that they did not hear it (the entire group belongs to the bargaining department). They play back the tape: Beomgyu said the "okay." Yeonjun politely asks for one more chance and staff agrees, but immediately after Beomgyu asks if they can turn on the air conditioner. Yeonjun says they should give up (he is correct), but Huening Kai begs for one more chance and that this was all practice. Okay, they get another chance and move on to choose another tile to do while completing this last(?) chance. I have 0% faith in them. Can you have negative faith? I have negative faith in them.
The tile has a loan word on it, but they notice it and hold up the board saying they picked this one. Smart. They're learning. They game is bulldog. The members will take turns removing a bone chew toy without being bitten by the bulldog. If all of them take 2 out, they succeed for 3 points. They're doing well at this!
Well. So much for the loan word challenge. Huening Kai says something about how Soobin is going about removing a bone and Taehyun tells him that they're on the same team, which loses them the challenge. Yeonjun does not take it well. These were all separate instances of yelling about it. Soobin and Beomgyu didn't even notice. But they pass the bulldog mission! 3 points!
Next is relay talking where they must complete the rest of the title of hit songs, famous lines from dramas and films, or idioms that are given tot them. Example: "it's a piece of," and the answer is "cake". It's a success if they all pass. Soobin explains the challenge to Beomgyu off to the side and Beomgyu says he can't do it. Awww. The others start giving him practice questions, which he gets correct. "Wait, I'm good!" That was such a quick 180 in confidence.
They have to go down the line in order. They choose hit songs as their category. Huening Kai (2nd) doesn't know his. The staff says "That's how you play." and that this was practice. These are very merciful staff. I think this is the most merciful they've ever been.
They start with Beomgyu this time, but Soobin (2nd) doesn't know "Don't Know You." Soobin says there were too many options based on the question and Beomgyu says they don't know the latest songs well. The editor puts the song info on the screen showing that the song was 3 years old. I love their editor(s?) Poor Yeonjun has not gotten to attempt a single one.
Yeonjun says they should play fair and bring back the bingo board to move on. The rest of the bargaining/one-more-chance department disagrees. Yeonjun asks again to please pass on this challenge, but Beomgyu says if they do then they would have chosen tiles in the middle row for nothing. Taehyun suggests switching categories. Probably a good idea.
They go with idioms. They get all the way across from Beomgyu to Huening Kai who answers "After you lose your cow..." with "you gain a stable." That is not correct. They were so close! Yeonjun is distraught. He says maybe they should just aim for the tteokbokki. Is this a 2 part episode? It's almost half over and they have 3 points.
Who am I? Staff will show them a picture and they say what it is. It's a success if they all pass for 3 points. Beomgyu correctly guesses that this is a photo of baby Taehyun before the staff even finishes the question. Taehyun did not realize it was him? Someone (Yeonjun?) says that they thought it was just a baby. Taehyun still looks the same!
They get to Huening Kai who answers "the container for our paintings," "the container for the grape drawings," "the drawing tube," and "To Do art tube," but they don't accept any of those answers. The answer was "drawing container." The members don't even argue, they just immediately move on to the next tile. On this one?? Listen, out of everything so far, THIS is the one I would fight staff for. He wasn't wrong about what it was! He said exactly what it was! His answer was more specific! I'm sure his answers and the correct answer weren't as close in Korean as they were in the subtitles, but he still said what it was! I would like to file an official complaint.
They decide to speed up instead of fighting for each one. The next challenge is Everyone's correct answer. They must each say the answer to the given question within 3 seconds. They must all pass to get the 3 points. They're doomed. But I guess they did say they wanted to speed up.
The question is food in their dorm. Yeonjun says ramyeon and Soobin says cup ramyeon. Because they are different, obviously. One is in a cup and one is in a bag. Staff checks the cabinet. There is no ramyeon in a bag, Beomgyu ate it last night. Huening Kai asks them to please count it because they had it just last night and Soobin complains that it's still there in the trash can. It looks like the staff's mercy has run out. I'm starting to doubt they will win any snacks at all.
Gonggi flip. They must try the gonggi flip from stage 1 to 5 without making a mistake. Soobin is apparently the idol champion of this? They must all pass to get 3 points. They practice and it goes badly. Beomgyu suggests that maybe they could do stage 1 only. Staff counteroffers with success if one member passes. They all fail. Soobin (leader of the deals department for a reason) asks for one more chance. They grant just Soobin one more chance. They say if he passes stage one it will be a success. The mercy is back. I think the staff also knows that the boys' chance of getting snacks is looking bad and that a complete failure would be sad to watch. Soobin fails. On the first stone for the second time in a row. Yeonjun now asks for one more chance. Staff says if one member can succeed at one stage they will win. Oh yeah, the mercy is back. HE WINS!!! 3 points!! They're up to 6! And we are 2/3 of the way through the episode.
Rock paper scissors minus one??? Taehyun loses to the staff member.
Everyone's correct answer again. 5 pieces of furniture in your dorm? That was not the originally planned question. There's no way. The staff are practically begging the boys to win a few more challenges at this point.
THEY FAIL!!!!????!!!?!?!?!? BECAUSE HUENING KAI SAID A TOILET!!!!
Next is the initials game. I don't know what that is, but Huening Kai lost. He is not doing great today, he gets them a second chance though. I bet the staff never want to hear "that was practice" ever again. They win their second attempt! (I watched it again and I get it now)
What am I? pt 2. They get stapler(Taehyun), glasses(Huening Kai. Beomgyu says he saw the staff specifically give Huening Kai that one), Yeonjun's baby picture(Yeonjun), mandarin (Soobin), but then Huening Kai says dreamcatcher instead of letting Beomgyu answer. Oh my GOOOOOOOOOOOD
They can no longer complete any row. They have 9 points.
Game of wits. They lose. The staff says to win they must say the numbers without overlapping. They all say ooooooh now I understand. I didn't know. Really? The editor says they get better at lying as they play. Can I use a time machine to order the editor some coffees or something? Are they still the editor?
They succeed and the staff lets it count! Soobin says he feels guilty. I mean. Only one of those successes was a clean win. The boys realize they now have enough points for the first tier of snacks! They will at least get something! Soobin pouts that he wants chicken, but the other members say there is 0 hope for chicken. I scrolled back up to look at the tiers and yeah, I don't see chicken in their immediate future.
Jenga! They must each get 5 blocks for 2 points. It was close, but they win it! Taehyun manages pull what looks like may have been their very last option because the top blocks wouldn't come out. They're at 13 points.
Who am I? pt. 3. They correctly answer Hallabong (Beomgyu), baby Beomgyu (Soobin), King Sejong (Yeonjun), dragon fruit (Huening Kai), and Jenga (Taehyun) for 2 more points! They have 15 now! It looks like Beomgyu has been making that exact expression since birth.
It is 2 parts. They didn't show the updated board after the last challenge, but here it is after jenga. They are not good at these games. At all. I would say someone help them, but the staff are trying. Maybe things will go better in the next episode?
The thing that’s always missing from the “women didn’t fight for the right to work they were already working they fought to get paid” is that many women also very much wanted to work.
Women wanted to be lawyers and engineers and chemists. They wanted to use their brains in challenging and interesting ways. They wanted to get the satisfaction from solving problems and inventing new shit and getting attention for it.
I know not everyone is born with intellectual curiosity or drive or determination but some people are and many of those people are women.
