Here is my final landscape piece. I chose to do a fantasy/sci-fi landscape compared to my other classmates who decided to copy or use a photo to create their piece. I was starting an extra credit project where I was to draw a landscape with star wars characters in the scene, but once we started this project I decided to just convert it into this project. Which was a good call so I could manage my other classes. I’m really proud of what I’ve created so far. I do believe I could do a little better, however.

Here is my landscape digital painting in progress. I am going to add some trees possibly, quite a lot of them, and I’m going to add some star wars characters as well. I wanted to start to create more landscape paintings so I’m really excited for this project. In the future I want to create more landscapes with more architecture. Lets see how this goes!

Hey there! Back again with another artwork that I’ve done. It is another self portrait, yes. But don’t worry! I’m not conceited! I’m required to do all these beautiful portraits of myself ;P. Anywho, I really liked this project, as much as the last but more so. It really got my gears grinding on painting with color and not using any line art or reference to color pick and use for proportions. I only had a photo on my phone and I use that as inspiration for this piece. Many things are different from the photo, other than my face. My chest area is actually a bit longer than in the photo and the green part of my face to the left is not quite the same as the photo. I took a lot of creative freedom with this piece while delivering the same results needed for the class. I also got an extra assignment so keep your eyes open for that! And hey! Self portrait of my self portrait. My idea was to have Tyler vandalize my artwork, again. Then I would draw the whole scene. Now, I had to push myself and use only color. No grey-scale with a color overlay. It was actually easier to push along, but harder to get exact details to do what I wanted them to. it seemed to me that it was too easy to just have everything blendy or blurry. Weird. I also learned about using the mixer brush tool with all the layers so it wouldn’t be all weird. I think I did well, next project I’m going to use only texture brushes with really cool photos taken of me by my professor. Can. Not. Wait. Super excited!

Here’s my self portrait! It took me a while to finish it because I’ve been busy as heck filling out RA forms. I didn’t get the RA position so I feel like a wasted so much time but I guess it was worth trying. I learned a little more about what makes a photo realistic piece... and what breaks a photo realistic piece. I know for sure, you can’ leave out any detail to a photo realistic piece because it will throw the balance everywhere, which is bad. I forgot the glasses’ nose pieces... so it just... looked surreal and not realistic, but I fixed that. Also color played a huge part in the realism facade. Colors cannot be too saturated, nor can they be too de-saturated, and it all depends on the situation of what you’re drawing. You have to make it work. But I need to use more texture brushes, as I mainly used a plain soft and hard brush. I did. however, use texture brushes to polish up the piece to make it more life like, and it worked! So hurrah! Now I need to do a portrait of me drawing this portrait. I’ll need to focus on the background now so that’ll be a big practice for me.

I loved this project. Doing it was very easy, because I got to use blending tools. I also REALLY enjoy doing light values. One of the things that I did differently was that I used the color picker to draw this image. I selected the appropriate colors for the ball. The ball had different shifts of blue hues, which was fun. Looking at all the different sections or aspects of what makes up light on a ball, was very enlightening and a big learning opportunity. I learned more of how shadows can have reflections in them (in a sense), and on top of my ability to accurately do shadows and shadow objects, refracted light has been an issue for me. So this is a good practice. I hope you enjoy!

I did some more editing to the still life. The last couple of weeks have been not just busy but very chaotic. There’s so much work to do here at MECA but it’s all worth it! I finally had the time to make this piece more to where it should be. I can’t wait for when I can use the mixer brush because that is my specialty! But I’ve learned a lot from this project, and I consider myself an ‘Advanced’ student. What I have learned is more of a technical skill than just learning how to do something. I got more practice into my regular brush skills and it has gotten me to think of how I can improve what I already know. It’s making me ask myself, how can I use the regular soft and hard brushes more effectively with the mixer brush and selection tools. It seems it will help me execute more realistic pieces. But until then, we will see!

Here it is folks! This is my rendering of a crumpled up piece of paper! I like this project because it allows me to practice more on how to get things very spot on and accurate when drawing, and because it’s digital, it’s a lot easier. I came across a lot of issues while creating this piece: me being locked out of my dorm, having a lot of other homework, especially reading homework for History and Literature. But through it all I finally finished the thing as a whole. I want to develop the background more and maybe improve the visuals on the ground but I want the audience to focus on the center piece. The glowing visual on the bottom isn’t too bad and doesn’t necessarily distract from the intention of the piece; to show an object in detail.

This is a still life drawing of my Steam Controller without using any blending tools. It was annoying to not be able to use any blending tools what so ever, but I think I got the hang of what I needed to do. I don’t spend much time on the shadow as it isn’t the main focus. The controller was drawn free-hand so that means I didn’t copy it from a photo. If I had the change to do this again with the blending tools it would look as if the real Steam Controller were there. But I think I did a good enough job here.

Hello yes I made a GIF that may or may not have to be labeled Seizure warning. But I did it differently than everyone else in the class because I’m complicated. But I really like how I did it. It’s unique and shows the same skills, but in a more advanced form.

This is a self portrait using a progressive technique with layers. I made a layer for each segment of the face represented with other colors. It then was finalized with a black, more polished set of lines. This was fun to do as it’s what I usually do to start my projects.

This is a drawing practice! I’m drawing my hand while leaving layers to show my process of building the form of my own hand. This process is a lot different than my own. Unlike some people. I usually only use one layer... SPOOKY!! - not really. It works better for me, but this is an interesting and sort of more pleasing to look at. It looks anatomically correct, and looks like my hand! So, bam! Done!

This is Tyson Murphy. He is a digital artist who has worked with Blizzard Entertainment. He has worked on World of Warcraft and Hearthstone. He has a son and wife. He usually posts updates and paragraphs about works and what he is up to. He has many artworks dedicated to his son who has a disability. But through his artwork, you can see more of who Max, Murphy's son, is despite his lack of communication skills. His art style has a cartoon feel to it. He uses a rich color pallette with many complimentary colors. If you know the artist you can pick out his artwork from a crowd of other artworks. He has a certain style that's just... Tyson Murphy.

This is a digital piece by Artem Rhads. He has not provided any information about himself, but from what he follows, he's a big fan of Concept Artists, artists who work at game companies and photographers. He has a minimalistic color pallette with a very detailed and clean, however, painterly style. Most of his pieces are surrealism.

This is one of the more fun projects I did. This is to “learn” about filling in the lines with erasers and the pen tools. I already know how to do everything and since I got to use the pen tool I got excited.
