Katara and Aang were always the representation of balance in ATLA, not zvtara, despite fandom misrepresentation and misunderstanding.
ATLA does not represent balance as something being opposite to another (see āfire and waterā like shippers have misread) but rather as two things being half of a whole, or in other words completing one another. This is best shown with yin and yang, or Tui and La which are the moon and ocean spirits that take the form of yin and yang.
Even their native elements complete one another. Water exists in air and air exists in water. You canāt live without water and air. They are fundamental to life itself. And what their elements represent narratively is crucial to Katara and Aangās survival. Water represents change, adaptation. Air represents freedom.
Theyāre even visually and narratively paralleled to yin and yang/Tui and La. Aang is the moon and Katara is the ocean. Sky element, water element. The moon moves the ocean, the ocean gives the moon purpose. Katara gives Aang reason to exist and Aang gives Katara reason to act. Katara teaches Aang to adapt and Aang teaches Katara how to be free.

Have you considered that physical touch is an established way Katara shows love and that sheās got her hands all over Aang and is acting like that toward him because she has romantic feelings for him? Because thatās literally just how she treats someone she is in love with. Have you tried not to project weird stuff onto a 14 year old girl that likes her best friend?
Itās canonical fact that Aang never asked her to do any of that for him. Ever. Itās straight up depicted on screen that he actually struggles to accept her behavior toward him, numerous times. They devoted actual screen time to show that for Aang, receiving such a high level of affection and love from Katara is difficult for him to allow himself to accept because itās not something he is used to. And he explicitly thanks her for it, and repeatedly acknowledges all she does for him. Heās incredibly grateful to her, at the end of the day. Itās very much not the norm for the male character to treat the female character like this in romantic storylines, especially ones written in the early 2000āsā¦ Aang never asked for any of this from Katara but she willingly gives it because she loves him, and he is incredibly thankful to her. And while Aang isnāt as physically affectionate, he shows an equal level of love to Katara in acts of service and words of affirmation, something Katara clearly appreciates and is thankful for as well. I will never understand what there is to hate about this. Theyāre a happy couple who work well together. The horror!!
