His breath caught slightly. His arms tightened again. “You okay?” you asked softly.

Your heart squeezed.

You pulled back just enough to look at him properly. He looked exhausted. Not physically, necessarily. Emotionally. Like he’d been carrying everyone else’s problems for too long without anyone taking care of him.

The second your hand touched his cheek, his eyes closed instinctively. Like he’d been craving softness. Craving you.

“You’ve been overworking yourself,” you murmured.

Aang gave a weak little laugh. “That obvious?”

“Very.”

You brushed your thumb gently under his eye before leaning up and pressing a soft kiss to his forehead. And Aang nearly sagged into you. Like even that tiny affection was enough to undo him. “You’re really touch-starved right now, huh?” you whispered softly.

His ears turned pink instantly.

“…Maybe.”

You smiled.

“C’mere.”

You guided him inside carefully, your hand never leaving his.

And Aang followed immediately. Close enough that your shoulders kept brushing the whole walk there.

Once you got him settled in your room, you finally noticed the scrapes properly. His arms. His shoulders. And worst of all-

Part of his arrow tattoo near his shoulder had been scraped up badly.

Your brows pulled together immediately. “Aang.”

“What?”

“You’re hurt.”

“It’s not bad.”

You gave him a look.

“It’s bleeding.”

“…Okay, maybe a little bad.”

You sighed softly before motioning toward the bed.

“Sit.”

He obeyed instantly. Mostly because he looked too tired to argue. You grabbed the small healing supplies from nearby before sitting beside him. The second you moved close again, Aang’s shoulders visibly relaxed. Like your presence alone settled him.

“Lift your arm,” you said gently.

He did.

And you carefully started cleaning one of the scrapes near his tattoo. Aang hissed softly. “Sorry,” you murmured immediately.

“It’s okay.”

Your touch gentled even more after that, careful fingers brushing against his skin as you cleaned the injury. And after a moment

You noticed him staring.

“What?” you asked softly.

“…Nothing.”

“Aang.”

His expression softened a little.

“I just missed this.”

Your chest tightened.

“Being patched up?”

“No,” he murmured quietly.

His eyes stayed on you.

“Being taken care of.”

That hit you right in the heart.

You slowed your movements slightly, your fingers brushing carefully along the edge of his tattoo. “You take care of everyone else all the time,” you said softly.

“Someone has to.”

“And someone has to take care of you too.”

Aang looked down for a second at that.

Quiet.

Emotional.

You could practically see how tired he was now that he’d finally stopped moving. Finally stopped forcing himself to keep going. Your fingers moved carefully along another scrape, smoothing healing ointment gently over the irritated skin. Aang’s breath caught softly.

Your eyes flicked up immediately.

“Did that hurt?”

“No,” he said quickly.

Then quieter-

“It felt nice.”

The honesty in his voice made your expression soften immediately. You brushed your thumb gently along the blue lines of his tattoo.

“You’re so touch-starved,” you murmured.

He laughed weakly, embarrassed.

“Probably.”

You leaned closer, pressing a soft kiss near the uninjured part of his shoulder. Aang visibly melted again. Actually melted. His eyes closed immediately, his head tipping slightly toward you instinctively.

And suddenly you realized-

“You should’ve come home sooner,” you whispered.

“Aang- ” you laughed softly. He buried his face against your stomach first, arms locked around you tightly. Then after a second, he looked up at you. And the look in his eyes nearly ruined you.

Exhausted.

Needy in the most emotional way possible. “Can you just stay like this for a while?” he asked quietly.

Your heart completely melted.

“Of course.”

You climbed fully into his lap then, wrapping your arms around his shoulders as he held you close instantly. And Aang relaxed harder than you’d ever felt before. Like every piece of tension he’d been carrying finally started slipping away.

His face tucked against your neck, breathing slow and warm now.

Safe.

Home. You ran your fingers gently through the short hair near his scalp, scratching lightly.

A tiny sound left him before he could stop it.

You smiled softly.

“That good?”

“…Don’t tease me,” he muttered weakly.

Aang is the type of boyfriend that gets dangerously clingy after being away from you for too long.

He will physically forget the concept of personal space the second he sees you again.

If he’s been gone handling Avatar duties for weeks, the reunion is always the same.

The second he spots you, his entire face lights up like he’s seeing sunlight for the first time in years, and before you can even say hello properly, he’s already wrapped around you.

His arms would be circled tight around your waist, his face buried into your neck, breathing you in dramatically.

“I missed you...” he would mumble.

You will just huff and tease it's only been a week since he last saw you.

And he would take offense at that, pouting as he complains—

"A week is a looooongg time..."

And from that point onward, you are basically trapped.

Once Aang misses you, he gets affectionate in the most distracting ways possible.

You’ll be trying to cook and suddenly there’s warm arms around your middle from behind, his chin resting on your shoulder while he sways both of you side to side absentmindedly.

Saying yes to Aang was the best thing that has ever happened to you. Your kids get to have an amazing father and trainer, often training in the yard of your house as you watch ,preparing for the next day. You had a hot husband who treated you perfectly on and off the bedroom. You weren’t ashamed of it, I mean who would be ashamed  

But being married to the avatar meant it had its downs too.There were times you wished you didn’t marry him. Aang and the gaang often had to go on missions that lasted weeks, sometimes months, miles and miles away from you and the kids. He had missed your second daughter's first word. One time you were stuck taking care of a clingy baby and a sick toddler without him. There were times where you felt like he couldn’t come back and would cry while your daughters slept holding their hands. It was tough

Your daughters who you and Aang adored were becoming airbenders, thanks to Aang’s help. The oldest, a 6 year old daughter, [1] who was the exact copy of you and your face, and your youngest, a 4 year old daughter, [2] who stole Aang’s facial expressions and behaviors. You were a big happy family, when Aang was around of course

You were teaching your older daughter [1] how to sew a on a simple square fabric when you heard a noise from Appa which meant Aang had finally gotten back from his 2 months mission, dropping his bag on the ground moving his shoulder when your daughters looked back at him

“Papa!” You daughters screamed, running to him and causing him to groan as he returned 

“Yeah yeah I miss you two” Aang chuckles ruffling their heads before looking at you

“I’m back” he whispered to you with his signature smile, the same smile that you fell in love with.

“Welcome back” You said walking to him pecking his lips, pulling away before he turned the pecked into a kiss. He groaned before carrying [2] “I’m straving…what did you make?”

“Guess”

“Do I have to?” Aang said 

“Yes you have to, it’s your punishment for leaving me and the kids for two whole months” You said with a playful eye roll

Aang sighed, looking at you with puppy eyes “I know…and I’m sorry…but don’t do this to me please” Aang said, using his other hand and  grabbing your wrist and placing your palm on his cheek, rubbing his face, 

“Tease” You whispered looking away

“Only for you” He whispers back kissing your knuckles and kissing your palm 

“Alright…let’s go pack up so your dad can rest” You said pulling your hand away causing Aang to whine 

“But mama!” [1] whined 

“[1], listen to your mama” Aang said  as he carried [2] who was resting her head on his chest, her finger in her mouth

“No, I want to stay with papa before he leaves again!” [1] folded her arms, sulking as you sighed 

“Baby, we’ll be done in 2 minutes and then you can stay with papa okay?” You said 

“Okay…” [1] sighed before picking up fabrics from the floor and placing them in the sewing bags as you walked into the kitchen, cutting vegetables

“All done!” [1] screamed running to Aang and pulling [2] leg, trying to get her off 

Aang ruffled [1] before removing her hands from [2]’s leg “Leave her alone baby, she’s tired”

“But I want you!” [1] whined “You love [2] more than me” She says

“Who said that?” Aang said kneeling down [1], careful of the sleep [2] on his chest

“I’m the avatar, two kids under 7 shouldn’t kill me”

“Being the avatar and a parent of two kids under 7 makes it worse, you know they are not 3 anymore right”

“Yeah…but it reminds me of when they were young…so I can carry them till they whine” Aang smiles pecking their forehead “It’s almost time for their afternoon nap so me carrying them could make it easier for them to fall asleep, especially the little one” Aang said moving his face to peck [2] forehead who was fighting sleep. 

You don’t know what got into you but seeing Aang on his fatherly side, carrying your daughters and showing his biceps made you feel horny.

As he walked away from you, you stared at him, your eyes never leaving his figure even though his back was turned on you. 

It wasn’t like you hadn’t seen him without his clothes, I mean how else did you two have two kids. But a 2 month mission, with him showing how to take care of your daughters plus your upcoming ovulation equaled Aang trying his best to ignore your look and taking care of the kids.

But he had a limit too, and his limit was snapping bit by bit whenever you stared at, with your love eyes.

“Why did you stop?” [1] asked

You smiled softly “I stopped for you and your sister, you two needed me so I gave the bad guy fighting to papa…because he’s very strong”

“Papa is the avatar…so he knows how to earthbend too?”

“Yes baby, he can also bend water and fire” You replied

“So cool…I wanna be like papa”

“You’re already like papa, you’re an airbender”

“But I want to bend other things too!”

“In due time, come on let’s get you dressed” You said helping her from the wooden tub and grabbing her towel and rubbing hair with it

It was a few minutes of you dressing [1],kissing her cheeks until she groaned saying ‘Mama I’m a big kid now!’ and you giggled when you hear a groan from the door and turned around to see Aang resting his body on the door handle staring at you with a smile

“How long have you been watching”

“In due time?” He asks, ignoring your question

“She might be the next avatar you know…bending every element that exists” You replied “And if she’s not, you’ll teach her how to fight other element bender to the pulp, who knows”

“Mhm” Aang said looking over your body which makes you side eye 

“Is there any problem?”

“No” Aang whispers “[1] I think [2] is awake,can you stay with her while mama and papa talk?” He lied, and you knew he lied

[1] unknown to the sexual tension nodded, grabbing her towel and running out of the room leaving you and Aang in the bathroom

“Aang you sent our daughter to check on her sleeping sibling…why?” You teased

Aang stands up and walks to you,grabbing your waist resting his head on your shoulder

“I missed your pregnant body” Aang said

“You what- Aang why on earth do you miss my pregnant body?”

“Because you look so hot, your breasts grew, your hips were much wider…you depended on me so much…I want to get you pregnant so bad, we should have another kid” Aang said removing his head from your shoulder and stared into your eyes

“Another kid- Aang you’re joking” You said placing your hands on his mouth when he tried to kiss you “[1] is awake”

“But” Aang whined giving you puppy eyes, before licking your hands making you shiver

“Where is the calm and collected avatar that I married” You giggle

“Taken over an Aang that needs his wife immediately” he groaned, you feeling his hands snake its way to your ass, giving it a gentle squeeze

“Aang, you’re not well, see high temperature-” You said trying to shake Aang off you but being shaking off a 6’4 buff man wasn’t easy, and a horny man at that. 

You whimpered as Aang grabbed your ass, pecking your neck “Please baby…just one more and that would be it”

“You said that last time!”

“This time I promise”

Aang didn’t wait for you to reply, he carried you over his shoulder giving your ass a big slap as you struggled to get off him, kicking your legs against his chest

“Aang drop me!”

“Until you give me another kid” Aang replied, giving you another slap which causes you to stay silent.

Yeah you were definitely going to give him another kid, maybe 2 more.

I love how Katara is the one to initiate most if not all of the romantic affection as some people couldn’t see her feelings or didnt like that Aang kissed her by mistake which he made up for 😭

Katara and Aang were always the representation of balance in ATLA, not zvtara, despite fandom misrepresentation and misunderstanding.

ATLA does not represent balance as something being opposite to another (see “fire and water” like shippers have misread) but rather as two things being half of a whole, or in other words completing one another. This is best shown with yin and yang, or Tui and La which are the moon and ocean spirits that take the form of yin and yang.

Even their native elements complete one another. Water exists in air and air exists in water. You can’t live without water and air. They are fundamental to life itself. And what their elements represent narratively is crucial to Katara and Aang’s survival. Water represents change, adaptation. Air represents freedom.

They’re even visually and narratively paralleled to yin and yang/Tui and La. Aang is the moon and Katara is the ocean. Sky element, water element. The moon moves the ocean, the ocean gives the moon purpose. Katara gives Aang reason to exist and Aang gives Katara reason to act. Katara teaches Aang to adapt and Aang teaches Katara how to be free.

Have you considered that physical touch is an established way Katara shows love and that she’s got her hands all over Aang and is acting like that toward him because she has romantic feelings for him? Because that’s literally just how she treats someone she is in love with. Have you tried not to project weird stuff onto a 14 year old girl that likes her best friend?

It’s canonical fact that Aang never asked her to do any of that for him. Ever. It’s straight up depicted on screen that he actually struggles to accept her behavior toward him, numerous times. They devoted actual screen time to show that for Aang, receiving such a high level of affection and love from Katara is difficult for him to allow himself to accept because it’s not something he is used to. And he explicitly thanks her for it, and repeatedly acknowledges all she does for him. He’s incredibly grateful to her, at the end of the day. It’s very much not the norm for the male character to treat the female character like this in romantic storylines, especially ones written in the early 2000’s… Aang never asked for any of this from Katara but she willingly gives it because she loves him, and he is incredibly thankful to her. And while Aang isn’t as physically affectionate, he shows an equal level of love to Katara in acts of service and words of affirmation, something Katara clearly appreciates and is thankful for as well. I will never understand what there is to hate about this. They’re a happy couple who work well together. The horror!!
