Mike is 1 week into his 3 week hitch on the north slope. I don't sleep well when he's gone. I have trouble getting to sleep even though I'm tired, and can't stay asleep. We're losing daylight. This night in particular I kind of feel like a kid waiting up for Santa Claus. He usually works a 10-12 hour shift that gets off by 5pm. Two nights ago he got in on a big project that had him working until midnight, slept 5 hours, then got up to continue. He got back around 3 pm, slept at 630 pm, and said he'd be going out for it again around midnight. He said he might call if I'd be up. Thankfully I don't start work until the afternoon because I naturally stay up late. But he hasn't called. He did say there were no guarantees. It's just one of the small things that comes with this type of job. It really isn't terrible, to have him gone two weeks at a time and home two weeks and whatnot. I am still adjusting to it. But every now and then it gets me a bit, just wanting a 5 minute phone call. Oh well. He'll be home soon.
