maybe itâs bc the idea of raya being evil is â¨exciting⨠but I canât stop thinking about an au where fang betrays heart and the druun return and all that but instead of running away, raya stays in heart after her father (and countless others) are turned to stone and becomes the chief. like maybe the bridge gets destroyed in all the chaos that ensues and the remaining people of heart are trapped on the island, but theyâre protected from the druun now (obviously havenât thought of the logistics), kinda like fang with their artificial canal. benja is still turned to stone, leaving a 12 year old raya devastated and suddenly in charge of an entire land, plus the aftermath of the druun.Â
because of the weight on her shoulders at so young an age, she goes from this energetic and slightly chaotic child to a hardened, bitter young chief seeking revenge. she goes against everything her father taught her, and heart goes from a lavish and bountiful land to near-ruin and collapse to a formidable land that you donât want to mess with. in an effort to destroy the druun and make sure no one else gets hurt bc of her mistake of trusting a stranger, she makes heart everyoneâs feared enemy and develops a reputation of being the most fearsome and successful chief heartâs ever had, which is even more impressive considering her young age. sheâs fiercely protective over her people and adores them but is also strict with them. no one is to leave without first getting her permission, no one is to enter without her knowledge and consent, she enforces a curfew, things like that. overall she takes care of them and treats them well, so theyâre loyal to her. her cruelty only extends to the other lands and anyone who wrongs her.Â
heart manages to recover from the druun and become even more prosperous than before the druun came. the other lands, while scared of heart, of course want a piece of this, but raya refuses most trade agreements unless absolutely necessary. fangâs the only land who never tries to trade with heart, and for good reason. rayaâs never tried anything against them, but that doesnât mean they shouldnât be cautious and stay clear of heartâs territory. heart has a huge army and weaponry, both made larger and more powerful with Rayaâs effortsâno one wants to mess with her.Â
but eventually, fang needs something that only heart can offer. think of how they struggle just in the movie with land. there are no doubt countless other things theyâre struggling with. they have no choice but to reach out to heart for aid when rayaâs around 18-20, prompting her to pay them a visitâa visit that includes not just her but her advisors, attendants, and some of her finest soldiers. she wants to make it known from the moment they cross into fang territory that she has the upper hand here, and she wonât hesitate to strike them down. itâs a blatant power move and chief virana knows it, but she welcomes raya to stay as long as she likes nonetheless.
rayaâs also worried out of her mind because she hasnât seen namaari since that fateful day, and she doesnât want to be perceived as some weak chief. she blames herself for.trusting namaari and doesnât want namaari to think sheâs the same naive little girl she used to be. namaari is also nervous for this meeting for obvious reasonsâshe holds a shit ton of guilt for what she did to raya, not to mention that sheâs harbored a crush for her ever since they first met (another thing sheâs guilty for bc itâs wrong to have feelings for the person you betrayed).Â
anyway I have a lot of thoughts on this lmao, like virana and namaari being surprised at this new chief, bc despite the reputation, both still picture her as the girl they tricked; raya being very callous and cold while virana and namaari try to negotiate with her, then namaari later seeing rayaâs guard fall (evidence of her crying, being warm and generous with her attendants, smiling while with tuk tuk, etc) and realizing that the real raya is still in there; namaari trying to make things right between them and raya rejecting her over and over again bc she believes it to be another trickâuntil she realizes it isnât when namaari suggests they work together to bring back Sisu so she can fix the dragon gemâŚetcđ
